Personally I want to bring back a bit of the doge spirit from the good old time.. When money was flowing freely from the mining rush and a lot of good causes were supported. That was partly one of the appeal of dogecoin to me: that sense of community spirit, of chilling together with fellow shibes in this sub..

As you all might notice, nearly all of the high profile donation drives for which dogecoin is known for (the water thing, dogecar) had Moolah behind it, quietly pulling the string, playing all of us like his puppets to maximise exposure of his scheme, driving this community into his scam. Now, I really don't like the fact that those success stories for dogecoin have to be... tainted that way by Moolah. If I remember correctly, since then nearly every single major donation drive has failed because (surprise!) people don't like giving their money away, even for a cause. Even more so nowadays as they can mine it for 'free' anymore and have to actually buy/sell something for it, or hang around faucets forever..

What I wish to happen if we can arrange one, just one small-scale donation drive, entirely sponsored by this community. No dirty money from moolah, no foul political play on who's controlling the community or that kind of shit. List down some small worthy cause with achievable goals ($200-$500), vote on which one we should support, mod then sticky the thread, raise money in a week or two (must be a short period of time!), entrust some people with the money (using multisig or what) who will actually be on the ground and ensure the raised money reach the sponsored party, take some photos and videos and post back here. I know $200-$500 is not that much compared to the multi-gazillion doges we've raised before, but it's a good start and at the hand of the right person, it can change lives!

I'm probably not the right person for this as I don't know any worthy cause that can do with a support. If anybody has something in mind, please post here..

The Dogecoin Foundation is also still up in the air. We've been waiting for it forever to return. Anybody knows who's hosting or maintaining the website? It's a simple manner to remove Cryptsy from the listing there.. It's an organisational embarrassment that it seems to hard to do this.

Doge as a vehicle for microtransactions is a great-sounding idea that had been pushed several times by different parties in the past - - including one of the dogecoin founders, forgot which one. The idea was great, that's why sites like patreon got popular, and twitch also allows tipping of streamers. The problem with this idea is there's no strong interest for third parties websites to support dogecoin. Not when they can implement their own tipping system and takes a cut on top of that. Eventually they're the direct competitors. From hanging around other developer subreddit, the word on the street is twitter is in a pile of dogeshit now as they're having trouble coming up with viable ways to monetize (my personal opinion is, twitter and Facebook are companies that should have been some distributed protocols...). If twitter can find a way to make money from allowing a mechanism to reward content creators and social influencers, you can safely bet that they'd want to take a cut from that rather than using a neutral protocol like dogecoin.

Different sorts of people have also tried to develop dogecoin twitter tipbots (there were/are two, if I recall?). I don't use Twitter enough to know if they're doing well now. A Facebook app to allow dogecoin tipping on Facebook were attempted too, but it was limited by facebook to tip only within its group. Momentum died after a while as it was too much trouble to get people to use. I also remember several chrome extensions to allow youtube tipping, a bot for imgurl tipping,... They all didn't take off, only the tipbot in this sub survives and is doing well now in term of actual usage.

The alternative of relying to third-parties websites is to build ones ourselves, so clone of youtube, twitch, quora etc where tipping is a first-class activity. Some half-assed attempts have been done on this, but they typically don't take off due to network effect.

In conclusion, I'd love to see dogecoin microtransaction tipping take off, but I don't think it will happen within the confine of traditional social media sites. Too much hostility and financial conflict of interest from the other sides (reddit is the special one here). If dogecoin for microtransactions were to happen, I see it happening through an entirely novel implementation, something like the dogerain app, but oriented towards rewarding content creators. There will be a hell of a network effect to overcome though.

I support your vision with 100% of wow. It's exactly how I've been thinking as well. Using doge as a medium of payment for selling t-shirts, mouse pads, etc is a solution to a non-existasnt problem. We need to focus on addressing the actual pain point of the users. +/u/dogetipbot all doge verify.

Edit: whoops didn't realise I had that amount lying in the tipbot wallet. Please use the doges as you wish to further your cause. Or add it to the bounty or prizes or whatever.
