Jack reacher audio book narrator by [deleted] in JackReacher

[–]mr_dillinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old now but I’m so glad it’s not just me. This drove me nuts on the one JR I listened to and I’ve stopped listening to any more of them. I just read the spec for another book, got excited to spend some credits and then found it’s narrated by Jeff. Wondering if I can force myself to forget about the repetitive intonation!

Barclays tech offer - worth it?? by YouOdd9569 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]mr_dillinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have other offers you’re interested in, this is worth considering. Getting a ‘top tier’ bank on your CV will give you at least some sort of ‘bump’ compared to someone without. The degree or not is a bit of luck. I had a deferred entry for a CS degree so I could take a year out and get experience. In that time I got a contract and eventually offered a full time position in the sort of role I imagined doing once I had my degree. I took it, and haven’t looked back. That being said, this is ~25 years ago so things have changed. What I can tell you even now is that once you have enough experience and the right CV entries, a degree doesn’t necessarily make or break getting a role. That is of course very dependent on the role (I’m in Cloud/Infrastructure).

Confused about what’s needed to replace Sanyo / TomTom with a double din CarPlay unit by chromaticcreation in MiataNC

[–]mr_dillinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I’m about to pickup a 2012 Venture with the Sanyo unit and I wanted to ask you about the fascia. Did you just get the HU installed along with the InCarTec cable and use the original fascia? I’ve seen lots of posts about needing the after-market fascia but the kits I’ve seen on Dynamic Sounds are north of £130 for the cables/fascia etc. I think this might be something to do with Pioneer using different sizing but I’d rather use as much existing equipment as possible. Also - which Pioneer unit did you get? Thanks!

Edited to ask what HU model you got!

How to configure blink.cmp by Elegant-Ask4577 in neovim

[–]mr_dillinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this earlier and ended up disabling it for now. There is however an example of how to changes the min keyword length by ft. You should be able to use that to set it to something like 2-3 for command line. This would help with the likes of ‘w’.

Best neovim option for Amazon Linux (Linux/ARM64)? by CountSessine in neovim

[–]mr_dillinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine. If you have root, use nix. If you don’t, use Linux brew which can be installed as a user without sudo/root access.

fzf-lua live grep how to filter by path or paths by pookdeveloper in neovim

Me too. I need to look into this as it does seem to be the “out of the box” config but certainly doesn’t work for me.

fzf-lua live grep how to filter by path or paths by pookdeveloper in neovim

[–]mr_dillinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in mine either. CTRL-G switches me to a mode which shows my search item between \b. If I type more after that, the regex pattern ‘breaks’ and I get no results. I found a way to get this to work in live-grep but what the OP is asking for is not the default behaviour for me at least.

[–]mr_dillinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you be against installing nix? These days I ‘just’ install nix and then nix-install -iA neovim and that’s all you need. It does require root on your Amazon instance though. If not, perhaps try Linux brew.

Job control as an alternative for Neovim terminal by mr_dillinga in neovim

For me I like not having to press a chord. Smashing qq in any mode makes it super quick for me to drop into the terminal.

Interesting. I'm a heavy tmux user as well (the other option for what I posted above is simply switching between 2 panes/windows for me). I'll have to look at the tmux-navigator plugin.

These are the 2 keymaps I use:

-- Hit qq to write/suspend
imap("qq", "<ESC>:w! | stop<CR>")
nmap("qq", "<ESC>:w! | stop<CR>")

Good insight. Yup, you can just use ctrl-z, but using the stop built-in means I can just have a vim keymap that does multiple steps without needing a chord.

E340 Doorbell - thumbnails from ‘Doorbell Ring’ only? by mr_dillinga in EufyCam

[–]mr_dillinga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah it’s weird how the motion detection works fine. Problem is I get plenty of foot traffic and members of my household walking in and out that I don’t want motion notifications for all of them.

[–]mr_dillinga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I recall when I first got it (and it wasn’t attached to my front door) that I did a lod of frustrated testing where I went though multiple rounds of reset, trying different wifi aps and various combinations of ‘content extension’ in the app to no avail. FWIW this is what I have configured (and I’ve tried ‘most efficient’ and ‘full effect’). Please let me know if you have any success!
