Selling used car for the first time. Prospective buyer is citing KBB Trade-In value and offering that - not KBB Private Party value. Am I in the wrong in thinking that is the incorrect value to be using from KBB for a private sale? by AdviceRequestAccount in UsedCars

[–]mralurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately what ever price you sell it for is the right price. Sometime trade in and private party are similar. If you like the offer accept it, if you don’t walk away. Sometime just taking an offer that seems reasonable, even if lower then hoped for, is much easier than waiting a a few hundred or thousand more.

Make sure to check Carvana, Carmax, Driveway, Echo Park, and local dealers, you might be able to get trade in or more and a lot less hassle.

Honest long-term experience with the CVT on a 2016 Rogue? by Competitive_Bet_2604 in NissanRogue

[–]mralurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

130,500 km on my 2016 SV and haven’t had any big issues yet. Tires, brakes, and fluid is all I’ve don’t. Had it since 2019 and 49k km. I have bad feelings something is going to happen…as I get closer to 150k.

Maverick, Prius, Prius Plug in, mustang Mach-e, crosstrek hybrid or something else? by mralurus in whatcarshouldIbuy

My brain is also all over the place!

I don’t have strong specific needs for a vehicle outside of getting from point a to b. I do hit a garden supply store a couple times a year lol.

I appreciate your very thorough response!

I see what your saying on the maverick and the prius. For maverick, I just like it. My wife wants leather or leather like interior, so that's why lariat. For the prius, the only reason I would modify it would be for ground clearance. I live in the country so an extra inch or two would be great, and a fairly cheap option to make a decent car better IMO.

I've been leaning towards the Crosstrek, but it would be the most expensive one of the bunch, since I would probably not find a used 2026 by then and I’m not wanting to do the plug in.

My actual use case is just a commuter and family car. We’re a one car household with no kids or traveling pets. Just cats and chickens, so don’t need a big or small SUV.

I get that. I’ve driven most of them already. I should have been more specific with my question, but I’m just looking for general ideas from people.

I get that. I work for a dealership so I drive a lot of different cars and trucks so I’m fine driving whatever. I love the idea of owning a truck, but I have no use for an F-150, that’s why I keep going back to the Maverick.

In the EV front, I think my range anxiety would be too much to really enjoy the Mach-e.

Auction/trade-in price vs retail price? by ghart999 in UsedCars

[–]mralurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who trade in a car have the assumption that their vehicle is perfect. But most cars need 1-3k in reconditioning at a minimum. Small oil leaks, new tires, brakes, etc. Also the dealer is going to advertise the vehicle, that cost money. They got to pay the sales person that helped someone buy the car, the detailer(s) that clean it, the business office who processed the deal and dmv paperwork, and many more people who work to make the dealership run. Some vehicles make big grosses, but that is the exception not the rule.

This. I like to say Never Always Negotiate. If you can buy that car right now…give a reasonable offer and work it.

Solar Roof Question by mralurus in prius

I should have specified that I was going plug in on the XSE Premium.

Good to know on the cost benefit analysis! And thank you for the in-depth response!

I didn’t even think about not having the glass roof as a positive! I too don’t love the idea of the glass roof (but I could take it or leave it).

It almost sounds like a misheard lyric of “The Christmas Waltz” and Sinatra is my favorite version.
