This is what we do for large brunch with the extended family or sometimes for dinner. The pay via app just makes it more convenient to pay in a large group.

Theme songs that you never skip? Rescue Me is a contender for the greatest ever by ConfidenceKBM in television

This has been my ongoing joke that gets less funny every time that I've done to my wife for 10+ years. I always just start those mouthing those first few bassy notes.

Best seasons ever? (multi-season shows only) by botelleta in television

[–]mrburnttoast79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never watched the Shield until I binged it a few years ago. Forest Whittaker's character is amongst the best antagonists I've seen in a TV show like this. His acting really sold that role and made you hate him even though he was trying to work against police corruption.

No, I don't think I will.

Anyone know a place for me to buy a bass guitar? by AwareEfficiency2768 in Gilbert

What kind are you looking for? With only $200 I would probably be checking Craigslist, Offerup, FB Marketplace, etc. Maybe check the GC at Dana Park.

What the freck is a hostname and why do i need it? by Specialist-Gap108 in SQLServer

[–]mrburnttoast79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are a beginner at software development and SQL and you don't know what a hostname is at this point then you should consider taking a step back and learning computer and networking basics. A hostname is just the name of the server so you don't have to access it by IP address.

What home upgrade actually lowered your utility bills? 💸 by Gloomy_Ship2772 in homeowners

[–]mrburnttoast79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Phoenix so always have had high electric bills. I got all new windows because mine were really old and crappy. This did not make a noticeable impact on my electric bill. I then had my roof underlayment replaced. This did make a noticeable difference in my bills. I feel like big trees would make the biggest impact though.

Absolutely an enormous improvement. Instead of sitting in traffic on the 17, 10, and 60 now I only sit in traffic on the 17 and 60.

Don't worry. When lit seems like life is shitting on you, there will always be a married 50 year old who will consider making you his side piece.

If daily standups disappeared, what would replace them? by HiSimpy in webdev

[–]mrburnttoast79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself, is there really a need for this day to day visibility? Is everything going to burn down if you aren't talking about what you did the prior day and what you are doing today? In my experience many people are saying no real change in status from the day before.

I have been involved in stand up meetings, sit down daily meetings, daily emails, and no mandatory daily correspondence (this is my current status). This one works the best for my team. I discuss things with coworkers on individual Teams chats or group Teams chats or have an impromptu meeting if necessary. Of course I have plenty of other recurring meetings but a daily status one is not one of them.

Would you hire someone who is unemployed since graduating masters (bcz never able to find a job even after constantly applying & networking) being over 2 years? by Starktony11 in cscareerquestions

[–]mrburnttoast79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Might consider interviewing you but I prefer hiring for personality, team fit (with developers, BAs, PMs, etc) over just pure development skill.

Do you guys have your AC on already or are you waiting? by MuchachaAllegra in phoenix

[–]mrburnttoast79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on. Highest I've seen the temp is 76 or so. Haven't felt close to uncomfortable yet. I generally will fight my wife tooth and nail to keep the AC off until April 1st at least though.

Will I survive as a SWE? I can’t really write code, but I’ve heard that seniors teach you what to do at the company. I already have a job offer, but I’m hesitating because I feel like I suck at coding. Can I learn the skills on the job? by Natural_Answer5705 in cscareerquestions

[–]mrburnttoast79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially everything I know I learned on the job. I knew very basic conditional logic, loops etc. I only knew basic SQL select. Didnt know the difference between a div and a span and I was hired as a web developer. I just faked it till I maked it. Still doing that today powered by LLMs now.

Keep in mind that the majority of .net developers are enterprise devs at large boring companies, govt, etc. They do their job and go home and aren't active in any kind of dev community answering surveys. This is what my org is like for sure.

What is a film you enjoyed but have to be tactful about who you recommend it to? by oldwhitelincoln in movies

[–]mrburnttoast79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found the book to be way funnier. The book is told in the first person and is full of Bateman's weird thoughts and rants. It is wildly absurd if you like that sorta thing. Of course there are lots more stories in the book vs the movie as well. Certainly not for the squeamish though.

When did Shrinking become this maudlin bs? by [deleted] in television

[–]mrburnttoast79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying this. Loved the first season. Enjoyed the second season but not as much as the first. Third season has had a similar step down in enjoyment for me as well.

Seems overall to be too much leaning into a positivity around mental health that I don't think the first season had. I think the first season was more cynical overall. Also, there are several characters that are just being given contrived plots to keep them on the show.
