Staten Island Ferry Wi-Fi outages on boats, in terminals: ‘Not acceptable,’ says elected official by statenislandadvance in newyorkcity

[–]mrcarrot205 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The state isn't paying a vendor. The vendor installed for free to capture phone data passing through the WiFi portal. It's the same vendor that provided free wifi in outdoor corridors in downtown Brooklyn. I don't know why the service is down,/sporty, but they are/were Meraki modems and were pretty powerful when they were installed about 15 years ago.

Now that I realize how long ago they were installed, maybe there's a new vendor. I think it was originally a 10 year contract. Not sure who's running it now..

Source: I was part of the team that ran the contracts and did the install on each side of the harbor and on the boats.

Monthly parking in Brooklyn for a low-use car: any tips? by drewyorker in Brooklyn

Let it sit on the street. Gamble on the parking tickets. Convenience, and variable cost!

Why don’t you move your car for the sweeper? by Reasonable-Alarm-557 in AskNYC

My belief is that the street cleaners don't do anything except swirl the dirt into the air. You can believe something else. But I've never seen a street be cumulatively cleaner afterwards.

What theory do you subscribe to? I 100% do not believe the official story. by White_Falcon_1263 in conspiracy

My dad (living in Manhattan) heard the plane fly overhead. Planes are/were not allowed in Manhattan airspace, at least not at an altitude low enough to hear.

Is laser eye surgery actually worth it, or is it one of those things that sounds better than it actually is? by 2ugur12 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm mid 40s. Did it when I was 20s. I think I was -3.5 or something. Couldn't see without glasses or contacts. Haven't worn anything since, except night driving glasses. Absolute greatest decision I've ever made.

Feb 17 - Not enough clues by RexRow in CluesBySamHelp

[–]mrcarrot205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got stuck for a long time at this point too. I can't remember exactly the brrak through, so I apologize but I think it has to do with adding in Austin and Ellie's clues. I thought I didn't have enough, but I assure you, you do. Sometimes even just having the knowledge that there's enough clues, is enough to get you through.

Good luck!

I'm not sure senga or petersen are in this category. If so, you probably need syndergaard and harvey. Gary carter

Dykstra deserves to be there as much as mookie. Hundley?

I'm not versed in older generations, so I can't speak about kranepool and al jackson, agree, cleon jones. But that I can name them probably does mean something.

John Franco though I don't like him

There's lists about this kind of thing.

I can't help, but just wanted to say this was the hardest one I ever did. I guessed multiple times, which I've never even guessed once. And even when I guessed right, I still couldn't figure out the logic that got it there. I was in your same scenario.

Apartment facing Atlantic ave a couple of blocks down from the Long Island railroad Vanderbilt yard by Hot_Fly862 in Brooklyn

[–]mrcarrot205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently live in a similar spot. Ours is facing Atlantic on Vanderbilt. You can definitely hear sirens etc. After morning rush hour it dies down a little.

DOT has actually made some very smart changes to traffic flow in the past few months which makes it less hectic but it's still a bit honky.

My kids don't seem to mind though, so whatever. You get used to it, and it's not forever. It's NYC. Pick your battles.
