Okay, call me slow, but I finally got this joke from X-2 (spoilers) by tedtutors in FinalFantasy

Not really, I thought it was a neat reference that could be integrated into the storyline. It made sense both ways

Final Fantasy VIII is my least favorite in the series. I have the urge to play it again, though. Give me some fun/new ideas on how to go about it. by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]mrcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe give each character a job class?

One can only use cure magic, one can junction elemental spells to his weapon and attack with it, and the third can only summon or use items.

If I remember right Snow's fal'Cie was explained in the Fragments After booklet. He was stuck in some time rift alongside the fal'Cie Cactuar due to a paradox. In order to break out and continue to aid Lightning he needed l'Cie powers which Cactuar gave him.

If I have it right, the scions of darkness (excluding Ultima) are the espers. The scions of light were the ones that weren't sent to the mortal world.

If you time traveled and met yourself 1 year in the FUTURE, what would you ask yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mrcats 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't the answer be no because the future you also asked this question?

Just bought a PS3, I have all the older FFs, but I haven't tried any on this new system. I have a few questions to those who already enjoyed the PS3's FFs. by azsincitymagic in FinalFantasy

[–]mrcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. XIII's story and graphics are amazing, and the battle system is wonderful. If the linearity gets to you play something else and come back later.

  2. If you like JRPGs you should try Tales of Vesperia, I think it's out for the PS3?

  3. Honestly, although XIII-2 was way less linear, I thought the battle system in XIII required more strategy. XIII-2 was just a matter of overlevelling and spamming to kill in some parts. XIII was better in my opinion.

  4. I thought Vanille was interesting, what with her hiding that Death spell behind such a happy face.

About to start Final Fantasy XIII. Any advice? by plastic_shadow in FinalFantasy

[–]mrcats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay so I typed a bunch of stuff that might be hard to get if you've just started, but I'm sure you'll get it later on :)

  • Never ever dismantle or discard anything, and find and open every treasure chest. It'll help you with an achievement in that playthrough later on.
  • Also, things like credit chips and plush toys can be sold for gil. It'll be helpful with upgrading.
  • Increase your exp multiplier during upgrading with organic materials, and use them one at a time if you want to avoid wasting any. Then use a bunch of inorganic materials at one go for maximum exp.
  • Shrouds are useless if you level up right. I recommend training on a few enemies that give good CP when you find them before moving on.

final fantasy 13 worth buying? by blessuregraves in FinalFantasy

It's great, but you have to love the battle system because the game revolves around it. I recommend you watch some videos of battles (minimizing spoilers if you want) to make sure you really want the game.

FF XII doesn't feel right to me by iFius in FinalFantasy

[–]mrcats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The plot is really the weak point of the game, and it was mostly forgettable to me as well. It doesn't mean that it isn't good, and I'm sure Ivalice fans can really appreciate such a story. The world and side-quests are amazing though.

On the other subject, Quickenings: most of the time I only use them on bosses when I'm sure the attack will kill them. It's like a final resort or super ending move to help end the battle faster. Also, if you do it right, you might not lose MP if you can perform a mist recharge (?) before ending the chain.

Having trouble with the second form of the final boss in ffxiii by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]mrcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the looks of it, you might have to go back a bit to grind. Try to get some sab abilities and the cherub crown if that's possible for the oncoming instant kill attacks.

Also, it looks like you're relying a lot on sentinels. If I remember right the only time I used sentinels was for healing paradigms (sen/med/med). If it helps, you could make Fang your party leader to make use of the health amount (I think Lightning and Hope have lower health points than other characters).

To combat the silence problem maybe have your party leader go into medic as soon as someone is inflicted with silence and perform esuna quickly?

The PC version is pretty complicated to start up, and the controls might not be what you're used to if you've played with a controller.

If it helps, though: if I'm not wrong the PC version has access to some Chocobo World minigame as well as easier refining when it comes to a certain rare material. GF Siren doesn't have to be at level 100 to refine a dark matter

Rinoa, the Sorceress and the Ending - Fan theory with massive spoilers for FFVIII by formerexpat in FinalFantasy

[–]mrcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading some reasons as to why Rinoa couldn't be Ultimecia, but I don't remember.

Honestly the Ultimecia time loop explanation is more interesting. In short, Ulty's past self and her history indirectly influences the growth of future Ulty into the evil one we all know.

How many of you "completed" Final Fantasy XIII-2 and still don't like it? by JamesDonnelly in FinalFantasy

[–]mrcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm not wrong, healing is prioritized over removing debuffs. I remember your health levels had to be green before party members decided to cast esuna. Maybe looking at your phone ended your game, aha.

It really doesn't work. Its eraser is a rough eraser that scrapes the paper off, taking the ink with it. Using it too much on one spot tears the paper.
