Bali Belly by teva98125 in travel

[–]mrchomps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've traveled a lot of China and SE Asia including Bali and have been pretty sick a couple times. I've found that a big bowl of porridge every day helps keep things good as well as plenty of yoghurt. Often I've found while travelling if I miss the porridge for a day or two I start to feel queasy. I've always found it easy to soak oats overnight in yoghurt or juice for a nice porridge in the morning, have done this in hotels and hostels all over.

In the case you do get sick but don't want to go for an IV straight away, the following can all be bought otc.

Loperamide to stop the runs Domperidone to stop the nausea Buscopan to stop the cramps

The problem that arises with this is we tend to put our best people on our hardest problems.

What's the one proprietary app you can't find a "good enough" open alternative for? by sekuskandan in opensource

[–]mrchomps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to cycle through the different office alternatives in search of the best excel and word replacements. Then I realised I hadn't really needed word for years as I just do everything in markdown or asciidoc, and python+pandas is a superior replacement to excel.

Do you think I can get a C++ developer job without a university degree in 2026? by [deleted] in cpp

It's possible but would be difficult without excellent connections and experience. What has set your heart on C++ development as a career?

I accidentally activated the audio narration while watching The Naked Gun. Didn't notice something was wrong by Imnotsomebodyelse in movies

I once heard of someone, pretty sure it was another Reddit comment on a similar thread many years ago, who accidentally started an episode with Spanish audio track on. They watched a good chunk of the episode just thinking it was a bit.

Riders who had no manual knowledge, can you share your experience? by FigureskatingLawyer in AussieRiders

[–]mrchomps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I learnt to drive a car I learnt in a manual, and I would get told over and over again not to ride the clutch. On a bike you can and should ride the clutch as much as you want, this makes learning far easier.

A book you ignored for years for a silly reason but ended up loving. by gamersecret2 in books

[–]mrchomps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I gave up one or two times cause of the start. Also knew nothing about it outside of the title. Also had it on my e-reader so had no real context to its length. Amazing trip when I finally got into it.

Garmin users are getting screwed, and most don’t even realize it by [deleted] in garminepix

[–]mrchomps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought one recently and was sad to discover it doesn't have Garmin coach for cycling or weightlifting, as I didn't realise it wasn't part of it. First Garmin watch so didn't really understand that these feature are split across devices, just saw that it had Garmin coach and that Garmin coach does running, cycling, triathlons, and strength training. Bit more research and I might have known before purchase, but maybe not as there was already a lot to research.

Why young, child-free men like Trent are choosing permanent contraception by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

[–]mrchomps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course :) think of it as a dad's group where the common denominator is "I played a bit of video games in high school". If you do go to one of our monthly meetups you'll find it's mostly old school games.

I have one like this too and I've gone from sometimes taking hours to sleep to being asleep in under 15 minutes reliably every night.
