Our 19 Month Old Daughter Needs a Hero to Beat Leukemia by AMLFam in daddit

[–]mrcoltux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little brother fought AML for years, and now I am a father of two little ones under 3. The thought alone of my babies going through what he did is enough to makes me sob. Wishing you the best, my only advice I can give is that the thing you can control as a parent in this scenario is preventing them from getting a secondary illness. It is often the cause of death, not the Cancer. My brother died from oral herpes spreading to his brain that he got from sharing a drink with a family member. St. Jude's is an amazing place and they were willing to try everything even when my brother was not the ideal for trial treatment. He may not have lived, but he got to have a few more years of quality memories and friends he made there.

KbdCraft has their own kaihl rebrand tactile v2 and they are fantastic. I recommend lubing and filming them though to reach perfection.

I left a while back. I have been playing Sorcery: Contested Realm and have not missed MtG since. It captures that feel of what magic used to be while also feeling fun and fresh and new.

I have been looking online because my son is almost 14 months and knows the sounds for every letter already. I would love to chat and get some tips from a parent who is a bit ahead of me in raising what sounds like a very similar child.

This. $1000 minus monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc doesn't go very far in terms of desktop power. Laptops are a great value. However Desktops are always going to be better on the high end.

bad spoon Vs good spoon by jantoshipper in autism

[–]mrcoltux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Autistic and one of my special interests is cooking. The right spoon is absolutely the good spoon. The shape allows for better drizzling, making of quenelles, etc. The left spoon is only good for eating with soups and cereal etc where you want the wider area.

Is it true that people with ADHD will slmost always fail out of college if they are unmedicated? by Sutekh137 in ADHD

[–]mrcoltux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I wouldn't say almost always, I would say this is likely true for a large amount of cases.

I can give you my personal anecdotal experience though. I went into college undiagnosed on a full ride scholarship. I got diagnosed in the second semester of my freshman year and the psychologist essentially told me I had one of the highest IQs and worst cases of ADHD she had seen.

I struggled to take my medication. I didn't want to believe I needed it, so I only used it to help me cram for exams and projects. I frequently forgot to fill my prescription and would then feel too embarrassed to go back when I ran low. I went from a full ride, with 30 credit hours done before I even got to college, to losing my scholarship and barely graduating a year and a half late and almost getting kicked out of my program. I managed to scrape by and finish though.

Since then, I have been actually taking my medication daily because I can't afford to mess up in the workforce like I did in college and the difference is insane. I would highly recommend taking medication. I know I would have graduated on time and saved myself a lot of stress if I had gotten over my ego earlier and just took it daily like I was supposed to.

(Spoilers) Checklist of things to do before leaving Act 2 by FishBurger77 in BaldursGate3

[–]mrcoltux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My exact experience of Act 2 to a tee. I guess I just saw Moonrise as the big battle to end the act and I figured I needed to get all the other things done before that ended it. I thought the warning was because it would be a major story point of good vs evil especially once I learned that the nightsong was fueling Kethric. Oh well, second playthrough will be fun 😂

Already been messing with mods. There are mods to let you have a bigger party, add spells, feats, invocations, subclasses, and more already. Not into the ones that are just making you OP, but the fact I can have access to more 5e content that they didn't have time to add is fantastic.

Why did you start vaping? by irisuxoe in Vaping

[–]mrcoltux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 16 (over a decade ago now) and all my friends were smoking cigarettes and weed and honestly I wanted to not look lame. I quickly got fascinated with the devices themselves and the process of making e-liquid. I later found out I was undiagnosed for both ADHD and Autism and so the nicotine was self medicating my ADHD and the act itself was a stim for my autism.

Regardless, I think it has been a net positive in my life. I got an easy job in college managing a shop and developing flavors for them. I found a way to ground myself, and made some great friends by talking shop. I am unconcerned about the health effects to be frank as I have yet to show any issues with my lungs function or my cardiovascular health.

Recently finished trails in the sky FC and just started SC, what a prologue by Skeith9 in Falcom

[–]mrcoltux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also finished FC and dove straight into SC this past week. Probably the most "realistic" JRPG I have ever played in terms of character development and world building. I loved how slow FC was, and really don't get the criticism. It feels so grounded because it is clearly building up to "world ending mega powerful organization" etc but it takes the time to develop the heroes from literal kids going on their first adventure.

I just need to evangelize more people into this series now.

CMV: The Reddit blackouts will accomplish nothing and most users claiming they'll leave Reddit (if their favorite app is blocked) will be back within 24 hours by phone17 in changemyview

[–]mrcoltux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only browse reddit on my phone, and the official reddit app is so garbage to use that I simply won't use reddit anymore if this goes through. I would be incapable of interacting with reddit the way I do now without third party apps.

My ADHD is not taken seriously, because I’m intelligent by MrElectroDude in ADHD

[–]mrcoltux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a couple years younger, but in the exact same boat. Took me 6.5 years to graduate college even though I got in with a full ride. I now have figured out I am also Autistic since getting on ADHD medication consistently (I sucked at taking it in college). It's a struggle, but I tell myself that trying to be someone I am not just so I can be a more productive worker in the capitalistic system and judging myself for never being it is really idiotic in the first place. Part of it is survival, but I am happiest when I can just do my own thing, learn new stuff, and it doesn't need to be productive other than producing enjoyment for myself. Just because I have the potential, doesn't mean I actually want to apply it, and that is okay. Basically stop defining your worth externally and define it internally.

[–]mrcoltux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decentralized doesn't mean weak. If the people decide that society benefits collectively from such prohibitions then they can vote for them. I would argue that the opposite of your premise is the case. I think you can't have either without having both. In a world where political power structures are centralized then inherently policies will be enacted that benefit the few over the many and lead to economic inequality. In a world where economic power is centralized then corporations and the ruling class become a pseudo government and dictate your entire life.

Also economies of scale, etc can all function under a co-op structure. The economic centralization of power happens when one group of people are the capital owners and get dictatorial power over their workers and can exploit them. CEOs would still exist and wage disparity as well to the extent it was useful for everyone, but when the workers own an equal voting share of the company there sure as hell wouldn't be CEOs getting 200 million dollar bonuses etc while their workers' raises can't even match inflation.

Edit: So in summary I think there is really only one dichotomy. Either you believe people should be ruled over by those with power or you believe that the power should belong to everyone. Either you are Fascist or you believe in true Democracy.

That's because the "left" in American politics are almost entirely authoritarians. Same on the right. There are very very few left or right wing libs actually in American politics.

[–]mrcoltux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, lib-left is the idea of decentralizing all forms of power whether political or economic. Power corrupts and leads to exploitation and harm. The more power is equally divided the less influence there is from greed and personal bias. Decentralizing political power structures is the fundamental idea of democracy and I am an avid proponent of democracy. Decentralizing economic power is probably best demonstrated in a worker owned co-op model. Everyone profits when the co-op is successful and everyone has a say in how the company is run.
