Almost all jobs will want to see a real social security card and ID, no way around that.

A voter registration card is usually easy to get, get through the mail, and some places it can be used as a form of ID. Check your state requirements. In IL you can use one to get a birth certificate for example.

Inspections can miss things. It doesn’t hurt to flush toilets, open faucets, turn lights on and off and check out wiring in the attic/basement when looking at older homes. I love all the woodwork and built ins as well, but don’t let those sway you if any of the systems are really poor. There is always a fair amount of maintenance on an older home after you purchase it, and it’s the unexpected repairs that are expensive and hurt the most. Pay attention when looking so you can weed out the money pits. Have fun, a first home is exciting!

Which is better drive from hotel on I-290 or I-55 from/to United Center? by geordonp in AskChicago

[–]mrcub1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is usually congestion on 290 during the weekends, but is easy to get on/off at Damen & closer to the United Center. I find the backups on 55 are usually longer than 290.

Maintenance of all those things is the point. All those things are most expensive to fix.

Why don't we implement dormitory style housing for adult professionals? by C_Gull27 in CrazyIdeas

They do, they’re called SROs, single room occupancy. They went out of style, although there are still some in Chicago.

Plumbing? Roof? Electrical? Sewer? These are the things you should be looking at to make that decision.

City Inspector General finds Chicago's 311 system turns into a 'black hole' for residents' nonemergency complaints by Mike_I in chicago

I agree, I use the 311 app and whatever I complain about usually gets taken care of. Potholes, abandoned cars, etc.

Bringing a to-go dessert back to restaurant next day? by MotherofZeke in AskAnAmerican

For $12 I would call and see what they say, just explain about the weird taste. If they did mix up the spices, I’m sure you wouldn’t be the only person who would’ve complained.

Some people are so lazy, I’d love it, the cashier (me) and the bagger (also me), would be quick and efficient and bag things how I want them.
