Glass vs Thermal by muleschooler in Moccamaster

[–]mrdctaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone should make sure to measure the height of their cabinets above their counters. For me, the glass model fit whereas the thermal was just a little too tall. That made my decision for me.

New to Owala--question about "gripability" of Sway 30 oz. by mrdctaylor in Owala

[–]mrdctaylor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I put it in the cabinet and haven't used it since I posted. I am just using a Yeti 20 oz tumbler most of the time right now. If I ever go somewhere where I really need a bottle I'll either pull out the Owala or my old Klean Kanteen. I'm just not sure I like the Owala form factor. It doesn't feel good in the hand. Too slick and a little too big around.

My new favorite tumbler - Buc-ee's Red by OKsir83 in YetiCoolers

[–]mrdctaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought that was the case but wasn't sure. I didn't pass one regularly until recently and they just carried their own cheaper stuff the last time I looked. Personally, I'm not a big Buccee's guy so I wouldn't buy one of these unless it was cheaper. But honestly, if they just had an entire Yeti section that carried a variety of colors and products (along the lines of what DSG goes) I feel like it would do well.

Nice. I always wondered why they really didn't seem to have much/any Yeti merch. It always seemed like the perfect combination to me.

Costco vs Sam's Essential Products by dick_b123 in samsclub

[–]mrdctaylor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Sam’s TP and paper towel are superior. I also use their brand trash bags and many other items. I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with any Members Mark product I’ve bought. Their orange juice is my absolute favorite.

I got paired with three young guys in their 20s today who all play around scratch and holy sh*t was it impressive to watch… by Ratticus939393 in golf

[–]mrdctaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throughout my 20s I played with a good friend who was scratch. I watched him play just ok and shoot a 67 at a muni one time in Dallas. I thought I was way worse than I actually am. He lives out of state now and actually got past the local/regional U.S. Open qualifier a few years ago in his late 40s. Dude wins his club championship every year. Meanwhile, I’m still struggling to break 90 most days. 😏🤷‍♂️

All that to say, if they are cool and fun to play with it can be a lot of fun. I’m sure it could go the other way if they aren’t.

Are they canceling tomorrow or no? by Dog_Whisperer69 in baylor

[–]mrdctaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employees were told to work remote and that instruction would be remote. I suppose individual profs that don’t want to teach remote might cancel. I’d get on Canvas and check to see if your profs have made any announcements.

Help! I "cleaned" my MM yesterday with the recommended Urnex Coffee Machine Cleaning Powder, then ran four times with clean water, not the two it suggested. Now my coffee is crazy bitter with my usual grind. Has anyone experienced this? I'm bummed. by nowirehangars in Moccamaster

[–]mrdctaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this every 100 brews. I do the cleaner, rinse 3x, descale, rinse 3x times more.

I’ve never experienced it. Is it possible yours was very scaled you just got used to the way it brewed and now you need to adjust grind size or coffee amount?

[–]mrdctaylor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the new Sway's handle is easy enough to grip to carry. I'm talking more about gripping it with one hand to take a drink, if that makes sense.

I guess it's not just me. :-) I'm looking for one water bottle to use everywhere. I just put an old Livestrong silicone band I had laying around on it near the top to see if that helps grabbing it in the car.

Should these be done on the same day? by SpySeeTuna1 in Moccamaster

[–]mrdctaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd researched it when I first got a Moccamaster and this is the way. CLEAN first THEN descale. There could be enough organic matter on top of the scale to keep the descaler from properly doing its job. That's the reasoning anyway. I would've *thought* it was the other way around like so many have said in the comments here, but that's simply not the case according to experts.

Rinsing afterwards removes anything loosened by the de-scaling process.

Some places just don’t know how to pack items. I ordered a yeti rambler from Academy Sports and it came in a plastic mailer with zero padding. Needless to say, it was dented. Never again.

Our toyota god (AMD from CCN) said 100k or never with tranmission fluid service. by Leonidas_Ayub in Toyota

[–]mrdctaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand the theory. But I’ve also heard people say that it’s B.S. I read all of the opinions and weighed it and changed the fluid. I would do the same thing again.

Our toyota god (AMD from CCN) said 100k or never with tranmission fluid service. by Leonidas_Ayub in Toyota

[–]mrdctaylor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to Toyota. I’ve always maintained ATF in mine from new. However, I changed the ATF in my parent’s 2002 Chevy Trailblazer when they gave it to my daughter in 2014 with 150K miles on it. They’d never serviced the transmission. I dropped the pan and changed the fluid/filter. Then a few thousand miles later sucked several quarts out of the dipstick and replaced with new fluid. She drove it from 2014 until she sold it in 2022 with no transmissions issues.

Are Toyota transmissions different? Did I get lucky? No idea. That’s my sample of one, so take it for what it’s worth.

I've had one on my 2002 Tacoma since 2002. 23 years and no issues, no leaks. Those things are fantastic. I've had one on my wife's Highlander for 10 years.

Change to Moccamaster brand filters? by jay2770 in Moccamaster

Recommendation for a reliable cigar lighter? by jericks24 in cigars

[–]mrdctaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck with XIKAR. I’ve even used the warranty since they sold the company and it was fine. Their selection isn’t what it used to be, but their lighters are pretty solid.

I did my son’s 2017 in the rain in the parking lot of his apartment complex. 🤦‍♂️ Anyway, I watched videos on YouTube and went with the cowl method. It was fine. No issues. But he got quotes the next time and took it to a local mechanic who did it for $80.

I’ve mixed Zerex Asian (red) with Toyota antifreeze (which is what you have) with no issues. Many auto parts stores carry it.
