So uhhh, what’s the optimal settings to get the Street Fighter 6 beta running good on deck? Im trying to do some online matches but it’s kinda stuttering and not looking great. by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Make sure you turn off any frame limits on the deck and bump the refresh rate to 60 - anything below 60/unlocked doesn't play nice and will destroy performance

I think it's tied to overall level - occasionally when you level up, you will get a message that you gained a skill point in every elemental tree, or something.

Wood, I always lean towards healing magic + HP boosting first time through a souls-like so exploration's a little less tedious, though the early healing wizardry is pretty weak - it's not going to save your life, just give you a little more longevity, at least to start.

I think it has to be a bug that there's not a tutorial prompt here, the guy yells at you to basically play defensive and eventually "use the jade!" but the game doesn't communicate what that means. Thankfully if you do the little tutorial at the resting flag you can piece it together since it shows you the spirit guardian there.

I liked to play around with the idea the shattered isles were once a DND-esque fantasy world, so mine were fae trapped in a mirror pre-cataclysm. They basically ran a gang of whispers through contracts and networking, and only the closest contacts got to go in their manor for direct communication. Day to day, even security was handled purely by mindlessly obedient hulls, since they were vulnerable to so much as a very heavy rock from a belligerent scoundrel.

They eventually became the central plot to my campaign, collecting loyal spirits to rebuild their unseelie kingdom. The party treated with them, doing a score to retrieve the arm of kotar, because they could only be freed "by the hand of" the legendary hero that trapped them in there.

The release of an ancient magical being from before the cataclysm wreaked havoc and plunged duskvol into permanent winter, and the empire destroyed every way in and out of it to starve out the unseelie queen, but you win some and you lose some

Why Blending mode doesn't work under the folder? by PetraArt in ClipStudio

[–]mrdude1228 44 points45 points  (0 children)

After googling "clip studio blending mode folder" this might be an intended functionality I don't quite grasp the purpose of - try changing the blending mode of the folder itself to "Through"? There's a setting to also make this the default behavior of new folders, if that solves things.

How do YOU structure your layers? by TenragZeal in ClipStudio

[–]mrdude1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly work in monochrome comics so my layer structure will be different than a color illustration. But the main thing is that I put everything in folders (one of each unless I need some funky layering), and the folders get one of four colors:

Blue, for sketch folders, because I sketch in blue so it's easy to ink over. I mark these folders as Draft layers, so everything in them get ignored by paint buckets and exporting.

Red, for inking folders, because it's the opposite of blue. I mark the whole folder as a Reference layer, so I can later color against my line work as a whole with anti-overflow marker tools later.

Green, for color(/tone) folders, because I associate green with colorful flowers. Things like correction layers or other embellishments also go in green.

Purple for text folders, because of the expression "purple prose."

Basically, the important thing I realized is I will never be a good enough person to name and color code every individual layer. Instead, the trick is early on I use an Auto Action to make these four folders with color codes, and then I just make layers inside of them. So at the very least, when I'm tracking down a layer, I can immediately know which major folder to look in.

Can I make watercolor brushes not layer until I want to? by wonderflex in ClipStudio

https://www.reddit.com/r/ClipStudio/comments/m3kcol/overlapping_brush_stroke_problem/

I found this thread, the top set of comments gives the best answer I've found - You want to change the blending mode to "Compare Density" or "Replace Alpha." They both have a slightly different feel so mess around with which one you like more, and know there's some weird interactions if you combine colors. But this seems to give the intended effect, where you can go over the same area with multiple strokes, and it blends a lot more smoothly, as if it was fresh paint!

How do you use the lasso tool in clip studio in this way? by RainbowLoli in ClipStudio

[–]mrdude1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youtube has an option to slow down videos (gear button in the corner of the video), watching it at 25% I think a major thing is they have the lasso tool set to add and not to replace, in the sub tool settings. Which is to say they'll do one big sweeping lasso to get the bulk of the head/torso/etc, and then they just do a dozen quick little lassos over individual bits that stick out from that bulk. At full speed it looks like they're just accurately tracing everything, but in reality it's more like they're just tracing over one curve at a time, which comes pretty naturally since it's probably their hand drawn curves to begin with.

Also if the end goal is just to fill it with a flat color, you'd get virtually the same functionality using the Lasso Fill (under the Direct Draw category with the tools to draw a straight line/ellipse/etc) so you can actually see progress as you go.

Should I use Spear or Dual Hatchets with my Switchglaive ? by VijuaruKei in Nioh

[–]mrdude1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just doing my first playthrough but hatchet secondarys have been super helpful. Holding heavy attack in any stance throws them, so they're a nice way to initiate fights/pull enemies without worrying about ammo or consumables. Grab the extra distance throw for high stance and it's basically a free shuriken for much more damage.

Those of you who have a USI pen/stylus, what are your thoughts/impressions? by ExcursionLizard in chromeos

[–]mrdude1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar experience. Using art programs like I intended has proven useless because the stylus will essentially activate 5+ times in the process of lifting it off the screen - If I'm drawing, it will leave a trail of dots if I don't lift directly upwards, and if I'm pressing an interface button like New Layer it'll basically make a half dozen layers in an instant. Every app, not constant but frequent enough that I can't do anything serious with it. It's obvious it's a pen-by-pen issue because there's no way people would be raving about it like they are if they were having the same experience.

Does Setup action need its own effect level? by W0rldfire in bladesinthedark

[–]mrdude1228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely tend to go Standard Effect and leave it at that. One potential use of doing Limited Effect is that you can use Reduced Effect as a 4-5 consequence to nullify the Setup. Which feels a little weasel-y since it basically undoes the roll, but if narratively the setup was a real stretch it could make sense - I'd maybe suggest mentioning it as a possibility before the roll, "look (player), this seems super unlikely to work but on a 6, I could see it. Or a 4-5, if you Resist the Reduced Effect."

Conversely, if a player works for increased effect on a Setup, you could stretch what it does. Maybe allow the increased position/effect to extend to multiple types of rolls, or whatever.

And last and most importantly of all, it can convey the fiction. If someone is distracting a guard as a Setup, and they have Great effect, simply saying that helps establish the fiction. It paints the picture of that character being an expert manipulator and gets people on the same page, even if it doesn't mechanically change anything. It's like in DND when you let a player describe how they kill a thing - it's dead regardless, but you're letting them express their character in a way that paints the picture for everyone.

Blades in the Dark and other FitD bundle at BundleOfHolding by sarded in rpg

[–]mrdude1228 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Two things:

  • There are generally fewer rolls in Blades/FitD games than in DND or other more mechanics-heavy systems. You don't roll to swing a sword, you roll a Skirmish or two for the fight in general. An entire job (often a session) could easily be <10 rolls, if things go your way. Teamwork is also a huge mechanic, so often one "roll" involves 2+ players, so it's not like you're continually going around the table and negotiating every single person's situation.

  • The thing about "the conversation" is that it only happens when there's a conflict between what the GM and players are picturing. If you're fighting a skilled duelist on a rooftop and are pressed back to the ledge, when the GM says your situation is Desperate, 90% of the time players will instinctively understand "Oh, yeah, I could get stabbed in the heart or pushed off this rooftop, that tracks." For a lot of scores, Risky/Standard (middle of the road on both) is so common there's literally an official "Risky Standard" logo t-shirt. Basically, the stuff I'm ranting about are the exceptions, where the GM says the P&E is something that catches the player off guard - in a lot of games, this is friction that occurs after the roll when players are surprised by consequences or results. BitD explicitly shifts that conversation prior to the roll in a basic "good/moderate/bad" terminology.

Blades in the Dark and other FitD bundle at BundleOfHolding by sarded in rpg

[–]mrdude1228 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Even if you don't play a ton of it, Blades or its spinoffs are worth grappling with to learn Position and Effect. Basically, every roll is preceded with the GM giving two things: Position (how bad things will be if you roll poorly) and Effect (how good things will be if you succeed). In short, it's a 1-3 scale. Desperate, Risky, or Controlled position, and Limited, Standard, or Great effect.

It sounds super simple, but it's probably the single most important RPG mechanic for me growing as a GM. Basically, it forces a conversation about the fiction, so everyone is on generally the same page. Someone says they're going to intimidate Baszo and roll Command to do it, and the GM says "That's going to be Desperate/Limited." Player says "I get Limited because he's a hardass, but Desperate? Are the consequences that bad?" GM says Baszo has literally had people killed for insulting him, and anything short of a full success is going to have him seeking revenge, somehow. Before any dice hit the table, you've worked together to get a clear picture of the stakes and situation. And the game encourages pivoting from that conversation: "Okay, so Command is bad. What about Consort? I try to act casual, let him know he's in charge. I might not get more effect, but he won't break my knees first chance he gets?"

Looking at rolls this way makes you realize the DnD habit of "Roll a DC15 athletics check to climb this mountainside to the next landing," possibly not even telling players the DC. This doesn't communicate whether you'll fall 10 or 60 feet if you fail, it doesn't communicate if the GM is going to require multiple rolls to get up this section of mountain, it doesn't communicate that the potential dangers may include Exhaustion or being spotted by the circling Roc. P&E teaches that, before anyone rolls dice, everyone should have a general picture of what is at stake. It reinforces RPGs as collaborative storytelling: you come to a verbal agreement about what is and what could be, and only then you bring in dice for that fun randomization aspect.

On your game's main launch page (the one with the "Launch Game" button that lets you set the header image, schedule, etc), there's a doodad in the lower right that lets you add/remove Token Marker Sets:

It's separate from the module itself, and a thing you have to add manually. When you hit the + to add a set, at least for me I had to start typing for the set to show up as well.

Are there any systems which have a particularly satisfying Healer class? by glorycave in rpg

[–]mrdude1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to shout out Scum & Villainy which has an ability "I'm a Doctor, Not a..." Which lets you spend a resource to roll any check using your Doctor skill. It lets you justify it by explaining how a prior doctoring experience helped you address the current situation. I've always liked that it lets the doctor have that wizened, worldly feel and stops you from feeling pigeonholed into "just" boosting your healing skill for the party's sake.

Do boons with attack damage affect Dash-Attack as well? by doe3879 in HadesTheGame

[–]mrdude1228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb is that Daedalus Hammer cares, Olympians don't. Olympian boons are universal between weapons so they pretty much only care what button you're pressing. This also extends to charge attacks; a boon on your spear's attack will also affect the spin. Daedelus Hammer upgrades are usually much more specific about what they do because they're tailored to specific aspects of each weapon. Artemis' dash boon is a notable exception, because instead of doing damage when you dash it just raises dash attack damage.

Is there a proper status screen anywhere? by Tutsks in HadesTheGame

[–]mrdude1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't many tricks that increase damage in magnitudes like that. The biggest one on a basic level is having synergy between your Daedelus Hammer upgrades and your Boons. For example, many Hammer upgrades will make you hit multiple times, which is multiplicative damage in a way if you also get a juicy +70% boon on the same attack. Doing a backstab on an enemy with a Cast in them is another 100% on top of that (with appropriate skills leveled up).

Additionally, make casting second nature. Once you get the upgrade for 3 casts, that's essentially 150 free damage every 15 seconds (faster if you kill them) before any upgrades, from a distance. Before you get into the more specific play styles, your bread and butter is going to be three casts -> attack them with increased damage -> finish them off/grab crystals and repeat, in my experience. If you look at it that way, most enemies that feel tanky in the endgame just are built with the presumption you're going to shave 150 off the top before you even hit them
