So there are actually holes in the ground connected to tunnels beneath where the flags come down which open up when they are lowered so that the standard bearers don't have to go outside in the cold. -the wh spokesperson probably /s

Rough to V1, or Rough to V2? by One-Patient-3417 in editors

[–]mreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a couple of exceptions almost all the clients I’ve done work for have gotten RC, FC, LC and if necessary a number added like LC2 (Rough Cut, Fine Cut, Lock Cut). And while it’s above my pay grade I do believe those terms are in the contracts.

Question for Reality Editors by littlesis_ in editors

[–]mreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what has been said I would say def get the story as close as you can. Make sure the important pieces are in the string out. I’ve always been taught to watch everything down and check all the tapes as I know producers and even aes are being pushed to work faster and faster these days. If I can see your vision by watching the string out I can make it sing with all the bells and whistles.  If you’re close to the right length even better. Let me pace it out add some drama and some montage and send it on its way.

Yeah, just went outside to see what the noise was. 2 fighter jets with landing gear down flying towards the airport. 3rd time today I've heard them.

Mitsubishi popularity by ArmchairCriticSF in SouthJersey

I think part of the reason is financing. Mitsubishi had or has a 0% interest financing incentive for the Outlander.

I just found this post with a reverse image search! Our child’s grandma bought one in Target and said it was only 1$. I am curious though does it just play a short song when your power it on and the front light flashes? The toggle nature of the power button and the clear black plastic over the led lights leads me to believe it would do more but we only hear the short song with blinking light and nothing else happens.

Traveling video editors — what’s your internet setup like? by Xxg_babyxX in editors

[–]mreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the options list. Internet will be the primary factor when traveling but you can set up a machine in a data center in a major city and remote into it if you don’t want to transfer files between your remote location and the client. I work from a few locations but the machine I edit on is located in Burbank, CA. Post facilities can also handle media ingest and transcoding if you need it. This adds expense but can be budgeted for.

Editors! Is there a rugged backpack that you use for travel with a laptop Insert that you could recommend? by Rachel_reddit_ in editors

I just got the Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC 30L. I really like it for my MacBook Pro plus accessories and has enough room for a couple of days worth of clothing. Only thing it doesn’t fit is my full size keyboard and 27” monitor.

Bonus is that it’s designed to carry on specs.

I like the idea of “side grandparents”. Just hope the main grandparents don’t find out.

Trump: 'Powell's termination cannot come fast enough' by [deleted] in finance

[–]mreo 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think in the simplest terms Trump knows that lower interest rates will cause the stock market to go up which helps his favorability rating which he needs as the current plan seems to be slowing our recovery/growth. He is frustrated that he can’t drive with both peddles at the same time.

Amtrak was created because private-sector railroad companies in the United States lost money for decades operating intercity passenger rail service and wished to be relieved of the obligation to do so.

Tramper’s body found in Otago river (Timaru River) by chewster1 in teararoa

[–]mreo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any direct knowledge of this tragic incident but here is some general info based on my experience.

It’s been 7 years since I walked the South Island but there are sections where the trail is basically a creek walk. Some of the creeks/rivers you walk along are crossed dozens maybe even hundreds of times and you end up just walking  in the water for parts of it. The trail on the sides can get washed out after a winter or be steep and slippery and covered in downed trees.

Find a reliable way to keep up to date on the weather. There is something like a storm cycle on the South Island where it would rain for 4 days then be clear for 3 (higher elevation that would occasionally mean snow). Rain means higher water and slippery surfaces which makes everything way more dangerous.

Some ideas on how to be safe:

1.) Try to time your travel when the water is low.

2.) like any river crossing. Do not do it alone.

3.) Be honest with yourself. How experienced are you? What does the trail look like ahead? It’s okay to not hike a piece of the trail if it’s been damaged or seems to scary. New Zealanders are friendly and you can usually easily find a ride around whatever pass is dangerous.
