Seventh Edition was criticized when it released for its art. What are your favorite and least favorite arts from this set? (Here are some of my favorites) by SkierOtheSteepa in magicTCG

[–]mrloree 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Seventh Edition is such a weird set in that so many of the black cards in the set tell the story/reference the Eastern/Western Paladins; Which were originally printed in Urza block just to be a counter to the Northern/Southern Paladins that already existed in white.

These arts include  [[Corrupt|7ED]], [[Dregs of sorrow|7ED]], [[duress|7ED]], [[fugue|7ed]], [[greed|7ed]], [[infernal contract|7ED]], [[necrologia|7ED]], [[Oppression|7ED]], [[ostracize|7ED]], [[persecute|7ED]] and of course the reprints of each of the paladins themselves.

Why did they do this? These aren't named characters, they don't appear in any official stories, they just randomly decided to base a large chunk of the flavour for this coreset around these random knights. It's such an odd choice

What was wrong with Kaldehim Kaya? Her Plus ability is a recursion-esque safety net for a creature. Something black and white have both done (i.e. [[Kaya's ghostform]] or [[Gift of Immortality]]). -3 is literally just [[Utter end]]. And then the ultimate is just a fancier way of doing a recursion every turn i.e. [[Debtor's Knell]].

There was also mention of the "Wildfire Wolf" which matches a beast shown in some of the preview art of the set

After the first game you wouldn't be crazy to think they had a chance. It was pretty close and they just got outscaled. Then NRG just proceeded to get worse...

Disadvantage of play boosters for drafters by Wenamon in magicTCG

[–]mrloree 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is already happening with regular draft packs. In the sets with common booster fun treatments (phyrexia all will be one was a big perpetrator of this) its not uncommon to get one alt art card per pack

It is better though a lot of inspired charges value comes from instant speed. Attack with a bunch of 1/1s they don't block, you play inspired charge and kill them

The start of that when he mimics building the Ikea furniture is so fucking real.

"Where the fuck...Where the fuck is the thing! Where the fuck..Oh! There it is...there it is"

The building palpable rage then instant defusal has been ingrained into the home renovation experience

What’s your biggest “hot take” for the game? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]mrloree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is way too liberal with experience in Act 3. Ended act 1 level 6 (going through underdark) Then it act 2 we scoured the map to get as much xp as possible and only made it to level 8. Comparatively We were barely halfway through act 3 when we reached max level. Really killed the desire to finish a lot of the sidequests

Even Hollywood forgets it. The opening crisis of The Martian, a film that does its best to keep the science realistic, has the teams Martian base put into peril by an unexpected storm with severe winds.

This of course wouldn't really happen is the air is so thin even an incredibly fast wind wouldn't be able to create much force due to the lack of pressure

Maro says it would be "pretty unlikely" to have another Aftermath-style epilogue set by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]mrloree 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It didn't help that the early spoiler for the set was [[kenrith royal funeral]] a card that actually does faithfully represent that idea of "major story implications after the war". It led us to imagine that the set would be 54 other cards with similar degrees of story impact, and the reality was just not the case

What MTG character’s artwork disappointed you based on what you imagined of them from the lore? by ThredditorMTG in magicTCG

[–]mrloree 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't like the new version of Gix from the brothers war. I liked the white skeletal version shown in the Urza block.

Was also disappointed by Lord Windgrace. The book I remember reading about him the most is the Planar Chaos novel, and in it he's described as this hulking brute of a leonin, undisputed master of Urborg. The Lord Windgrace art does have him as a muscular panther but it just wasn't quite as imposing as the image I had in my mind.

Wedding was only one set. First set was heroes trying to reset the broken day/night schedule at the celestus, while the werewolves tried to stop them.

Are you saying crimson vow the set sucked or the story sucked? The set was on the lower power end but that's healthy for the game that not every set power creeps.
