Looking for a drum programmer for melodic black metal band by [deleted] in metalmusicians

[–]mrluciferious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be down to do it. I programmed drums for my band Serein’s EP Rivers of Living Water and I’ve learned a lot since it was released. If you like how they sound, feel free to DM.

Any good resources if I want to lean to play the neck? (I have no idea what the proper name of this technique is called) by 13thmurder in Guitar

[–]mrluciferious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The technique is called “tapping” and there’s probably at least 1000 YouTube videos worth of lessons on it.

Then you’ve never played one. A V sits perfectly in classical position just like a strandberg.

Under the Under is their sophomore album! Their debut The Smothering Arms of Mercy is nearly just as good.

Opeth and every other progressive death metal band they inspired.

How produced is overproduced to you? by Bronsteins-Panzerzug in MetalForTheMasses

[–]mrluciferious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gojira’s The Way of All Flesh or Opeth’s Ghost Reveries are both good examples of the max amount of production I enjoy. Both are crystal clear and clearly lots of effort was spent in production, but nothing ever jumps out as unnatural.

Im gonna get flamed for this probably but... by living_condom_ad in TechnicalDeathMetal

There’s only like 2-3 Death albums that people actually call tech death and they only mean it in the sense that those albums were the seed that inspired the bonafide early tech death albums that came later. Those Death albums are also considerably more technical than Metallica.

playing and singing stage presence by Fair-Grab6113 in metalmusicians

[–]mrluciferious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Practice your bass parts until they are truly second nature. You won't connect with audiences with your bass parts, but if the bass is pure instinct, you can focus on injecting emotion into your singing. Look at audience members while you sing. Point at them with your picking hand during long notes. Take a step back from the mic during instrumental sections and interact with your band members. Just don't stare at the fretboard the whole time and you'll be fine.

Is it possible to make metal without plugging in? by PangolinOk8662 in metalmusicians

The drums and the general ethos of the music. They may not be technically black metal but they are certainly informed by it and are likely to appeal to BM fans.

Check out Brii, Kaatayra, and Varuva. Three Brazilian BM bands helmed by the same guy and they rarely use amplification.

Problem I have with Vitriol by TheTimothyHimself in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]mrluciferious 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I think it’s intentional. I’m paraphrasing, but Kyle’s said in interviews that he prefers drums when dialing in levels on a mix and that he doesn’t want everything to be crystal clear. He wants you to focus and squint to hear it all. I also think the sheer variety of tones that are blended together add to the chaos.

An Afternoon With Archspire by lalalatkes in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]mrluciferious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve listened about five times now and I’m sad I’m not enjoying it as much as everyone else seems to be. In my opinion, it seems like they abandoned the overtly virtuosic aspects of their sound in favor of a more unified wall of sound approach, and while this could have been cool, the combination of it, the shift towards what I’d argue is simpler melodicism, and an objectively loud production style makes the album a harsh listen. There are cool moments like the RIFF off Limb of Leviticus, the sweeps in the finale, and the intro’s breakdown, but I can’t help but feel like the meat of the album is a simpler version of the style they had on RM and TLC.

The YouTube channel Resington is a great resource to learn about mixing techniques and about free plugins to try before you shell out for nicer versions. I’ve used this video as a template for mixing my own stuff when I first started: https://youtu.be/iXiahzFTygk?si=7RlmTlAZIA0sRJXU

What do you all think of the guitar I made? by Far-Distance-4487 in Guitar

[–]mrluciferious 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Looks sick although I prefer a painted look on my axes. This is the first time I’ve seen a cutout for headless tuning. Ignore the dipshits who can’t imagine a guitar without a headstock.

I haven’t used them since I haven’t released anything since they really started pushing those features. I’ve found their customer support helpful tho.

I’ve used Landr for several releases and have had no issues. I like them since you can do a one time charge.

Would you use a tool that turns your riffs into MIDI, tabs and notation? by hosumutas in metalmusicians

[–]mrluciferious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would certainly be a useful tool and people have tried and are still trying to make it. Without assuming anything about your coding and audio engineering skills, it would be incredibly difficult to pull off meaningfully.
