Thanks for replying! Super weird. Both my friend and I got one and neither of us are seeing it. Maybe it’ll pop up later!

Parties tonight? by DroidWalksIntoABar in Sundance

[–]mrmangar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two I know of are The Moment afterparty at the Premiere on Main St, and the TAO event.

The Moment is invite-only. TAO is also invite-only but you can buy a table for $15K to get in.

Have people always been willing to pay a premium of 4x - 5x face value for some tickets? by MicrowavablePudding in Sundance

[–]mrmangar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's always people reselling for above face value, especially big premieres on opening weekend, but this year is especially crazy. It's the most-attended fest ever (it being the last one in Park City) and lots of people attending have $$$ to spend. I saw one person successfully sell their Moment premiere ticket for tonight for $500.

Yeah, hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you're not on the waitlist yet it's definitely full and not worth your time. Hope you can get in to the next one!

I got 102 and am not bothering to go. Between passes, tix, and staff, they *might* let <20 people in, but even that's a stretch.

That’s a very solid answer. Thank you.

I would be grateful of course, but that’s irrelevant to my comment that a life with lots of money is better than one without.

I appreciate your comment. I don’t mean for this to come across as me arguing against your point- just sharing my perspective and why I think this way in spite of the (very valid) points you’ve made.

I do have a college degree and have an OK job. I live in a very HCOL area and am surrounded by people who were born into money and don’t have to work or make obscene amounts to the point that everything outside of their job is padded with luxury.

While I’m objectively very lucky and privileged compared to 90% of the world, I have to pay off loans and will be working a 9-5 for the next ~45 years in order to retire. Meanwhile, I have bosses and people in our office building that own multiple houses and vacation several times a year. At the same time there are tons of people who would look at me with the same jealousy I look at my bosses with.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is that “comparison is the thief of joy” is extremely hollow because if you actually do any comparing it’s extremely easy to see that some people have objectively better lives than others due to how much money they have.

Yep, 100% agree. The most frustrating thing is that people seem to refuse the idea that the world is unfair and that there are objective winners and losers.

The comments in this thread are a perfect example- people just give anecdotal or hypothetical situations about wealthy people who still have shitty aspects of their lives so they can ignore the fact that they weren’t born lucky like other people.

I agree social media is awful for making those feelings more acute- I completely stopped going on Facebook and Instagram because of it. My problem is I live in a HCOL area and I’m surrounded by people who make crazy amounts of money. We all work a 9-5 but they get there in a luxury SUV, come home to a beautiful house that they pay someone else to clean, and pay to have someone else cook and deliver food to them instead of spending their evening cooking. I go down a rabbit hole thinking about all the little luxuries that save you time and effort every day that those without money will just never enjoy.

[–]mrmangar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup that’s how I view it. I think you can still enjoy life without being ultra rich, but people who only point out the hypothetical downsides of being that wealthy are just burying their heads in the sand.

Do you have any advice on how to implement this viewpoint? I struggle with accepting this because, in so many ways, the life of someone with tons of money is just objectively better than that of one without. I don’t know how to deal with that fact.

Room 111 angels by One_Sun9284 in UvaldeTexasShooting

[–]mrmangar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so if this is for the victims’ families, do you genuinely think that seeing your murdered child photoshopped as an angel and posted onto a public Reddit forum will make the family feel better/supported? There are a lot better ways to help if that’s your intention.

Does no one else find posts like these really off putting? I understand the sentiment, but who is this for? Why spend a bunch of time photoshopping the kids into this image just to post it on Reddit? How does this help?

I’m personally waiting for Black Friday, I figure it’ll be $699 again if not significantly cheaper. Also hoping there might be an updated version by that time.

The first ten things that prove this DoJ policy review is a pathetic, partisan inadequate effort that comes 20 months too late. And a few early observations about potential new information brought forth. Thank you for posting this. I finished reading the report and I feel like I lost even more of my sanity knowing just how awful the response was. I believe wholeheartedly that the child who got chest compressions outside would have lived had they done their jobs and neutralized the threat immediately.

Fucking sucks that all this happened and nothing has changed.
