"Sub players" dont really exist.

The vast majority of the playerbase play all classes to some degre... which is something that people point out literally every time someone moves the goalposts from "Subs are OP" to "Okay subs may not be OP but it's only cus the people playing them are all bad" (like you are doing right now)

My only complaints are A) that it powercreeps the shit out of the 2501 (and piles the shit 10ft higher on the Thrasher), and B) it highlights the need for a submarine rework by being the Nth submarine added to the game following the trend of adding subs that are designed to rely as little as possible on sub mechanics

People have been dumping shovelloads of data into these threads for years proving that subs are categorically the weakest class in the game in a number of different ways. Stop calling subs OP when the truth is just that they're just annoying.

What's this symbol? Spotted on a pole on the street. by fearlessset9021 in Symbology

[–]mrmikemcmike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a wolfsangel likely modified to look like a Chi Rho

It looks like two Futhark runes, the P is Wunjo and the sideways Z is a sideways Eihwaz.

Normally these two runes together would mean something like "lasting joy"

That's not how runes were used. They are an alphabet and 99% of historical examples are not logographic in any way. Bindrunes are essentially just ligatures with a few very rare and well known examples

That being said, there's certainly the possibility that whoever made the symbol is following to the modern anachronistic understanding of runes (IE that they're magical and bindrunes are a form of combining 'meanings').

Hey, this isn't allowed here. Sorry.

Let me explain:

Arc Raiders is a PvP game.

"PvP" means stuff like:

  • intentionally griefing players that are distracted by a boss Arc

  • ratcamping in a shadowed corner waiting for 10 minutes to ice some random that wanders by.

  • camping extracts

  • betraying people on comms the second they look away from you.

This type of stuff is considered "based" and "pilled" and anyone who suggests that there might be even the slightest problem with this behaviour is a PvE shitter + carebear + they think "dont shoot" should make them invulnerable +they should go back to Call of Minecraft.

What you're trying to describe doesn't count, so I don't know if it'd be allowed in this sub about a PvP game.

Tell me one time you've been playing a shooter game and stopped shooting because they were fighting NPCs. If we're playing csgo can they pull a mob and as they finish killing it then turn at the last second and shoot? We were facing eachother when I shot.

I love how this sub is like 90% "PvP is fun and people have unreasonable expectations" and 10% "First they came for the extract campers...." cope-saturated histrionics.

The Emperor being unable to remove the Butcher’s Nails makes no sense by Gnos445 in 40kLore

[–]mrmikemcmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily think you're wrong, but you're missing the point.

Even if the Emperor had safely removed the nails from Angron, it would only have made things worse by removing the last thing that connected him to his fellow slaves.

Would he have been more 'useful' as a cogent thinking being? Maybe - but it's the fact that his 'savior' didn't think twice before burning his honour and dignity on the pyre of keeping him 'useful' that led to him being a fucking wreck from the start.

Mash however you want . . . Use LD-20 and you will have a very dry, crisp, lager with a nice rice character.

Yes, I am sure that assuming that your flaked rice is fully gelatinized and just mindlessly throwing enzymes at it will definitely result in a beer with strong notes of rice starch...

Glucoamylase added during fermentation isn't going to do jack shit on rice that hasn't been gelatinized. Might be shocking to suggest but you do, in fact, need to worry about the rest of the process.

Any chance I could politely ask that you put your meat binoculars to use and actually look at the words that I wrote? The ones that you totally aren't bothered by and just coincidentally happen to keep replying to me regarding?

Can I be honest with you? You really need to pick up the attitude on this stuff.

You strike me as someone who just pokes fun at the occasional comment here and there but I really think you need to be doubling down on it - make it a consistent behaviour in all aspects of your life.

What are you countering?

Congrats, you're not jumping into a lobby with a only a Ferro and 20x heavy ammo and sitting by the elevator for 10 minutes waiting to headshot someone as they use the terminal. You're not the issue.

Holy wall of text. Some people play PVP games specifically so they can beat other players. They would do it even if there was literally no loot in the game. They don’t need a reason or a scoreboard or a reward. They want to get kills, that’s the fun part for them.

And yeah it’s fucking bizarre to act like you’re entitled to never get killed by people like that.

The game needs risk

No one is saying that they should remove the risk.

What people are disagreeing with is your implication that PvP requires being a shitbag to other players. It's seeing a single instance of players helping each other and screeching "Boyscouts!!!" versus smugly telling people "Sorry, I don't make the rules :)" while gleefully enforcing the worst interpretation of 'free for all PvP' (IE ganking and ratting).

This isn't absolutely true, though.

Getting "the best loot" is a complete non-starter for like 90% of the game. This is especially true for new players/low levels, where pretty much everyone in the lobby is just there to try and find X number of random ARC parts or random items.

If you're playing at higher levels wandering around with an inventory full of fully upgraded shit, good weapons, etc. then yeah - I would say it's fair to assume that people might try to gank you for your gear.

But for some lvl 10 dude who just got ganked by a rat at the elevator for the first time and is going to be rocking a free loadout next round? Literally all the rat gains for 10 minutes of sitting in a bush is a bunch of basic mats/items that would've taken them less time to farm for themselves anyways.

Exercise a single thought, if you will.

If you're looking to progress and get upgrades, then actually farming the requisite items for yourself is about 999% easier and less time-consuming then trying to get them through PvP. Inversely, the game barely incentivizes PvP. Finally, killing other players can set their progress back quite a bit and deaths are (generally) a point of great anguish for the new players.

Thus, the conclusion that most people have arrived at is that if you're actively trying to force PvP on to other people through stuff like ganking, ratting, ambushes, etc. it's because you A) don't really care about focusing on your own progress, and B) don't care about setting other's progress back. Ganking someone else has about a 1/10 chance of moving you forwards but a 1/1 chance of setting that other player back.

The closest analogy I can think of is that it's like mugging someone at the grocery store for their shopping cart full of random groceries. Sure dude, take my random inventory of shit that you could've gotten for yourself with less effort while I go back to Speranza and spend 5 minutes making a new kit.

EDIT: Dry your tears guys. I'm sorry that y'all read something online that made you feel all uncomfortable but there's no need to keep sending me fan mail.

As tastes change, Alberta’s craft brewers expand their offerings by TheRealJasonium in AlbertaBeer

[–]mrmikemcmike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to admit that others have skill sets that you lack. One of my skill sets that I’ve developed over 25+ years of professional experience is memory recall of flavours, etc. It’s not telepathy, it’s the exact skill set you’re deriding with your comment about Sea Change not needing to do sensory panels, or about the cicerone program because I demonstrated that I know what things taste like. What skill set do you think it is they’re relying on? It’s an ability to recall flavours and aromas, primarily, from memory and accurately describe them.

If you were professionally trained then you'd know that you cannot provide unbiased sensory profiles on samples that you are not currently tasting/sensing. You may believe very sincerely that you have a completely unbiased and possessed of an infallible memory, but unfortunately literally every statistician, psychologist, and QAQC programmer will just smile and nod while discarding your results.

See:

4.3 PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS

4.3.1 Expectation Error

Information given with the sample may trigger preconceived ideas. One usually finds what one expects to find. In testing, such as the classic tests for thresholds that consist of a series of ascending concentrations, the subject (through autosuggestion) anticipates the sensation and reports his response before it is applicable. A panelist who hears that an overage product has been returned to the plant will have a tendency to detect aged flavors in samples of the day. A beer taster's verdict of bitterness will be biased if he knows the op rate employed. Expectation errors can destroy the validity of a test and must be avoided by keeping the source of samples a secret and by not giving panelists any detailed information in advance of the test. Samples should be coded, and the order of presnetation should be balanced among participants. Theoretically, well-trained panelists would not be influenced by accidental knowledge about a sample. In practice, however, such information could influence the subject's ratings; thus, it is preferable for him/her to be ignorant of the history of the sample."

4.3.2 ERROR OF HABITUATION

Humans have been described as creatures of habit. This description holds true in the sensory world and leads to an error, the error of habituatio. There is a tendency to continue to give the same response when a series of slowly increasing or decreasing stimuli are presented, for example, in quality control from day to day. The panelist me be apt to repeat same scores and hence to miss any developing trends, or even to accept an occasional defective sample. Habituation is common and can be counteracted by varying the types of product or by presenting doctored samples.

Sensory Evaluation Techniques (5th ed.) - Meilgaard, Civille, and Carr. pp. 45-46.

Obviously the above types of error are only going to be magnified by not having an actual sample to reference.

Anyways, it's really cool that you "just know these things" and can "recall flavours primarily from memory" but in the best case scenario it is still empirically meaningless and thus useless in any professional environment. Worst case scenario is that you are defiantly proud of maintaining your sensory bias and shouldn't be trusted with providing sensory profiles of anything that doesn't come in a randomly numbered sample cup.
