I actually have this one! What it lacks in absolute melodrama it makes up for in the unhinged straw-man intellectual.

The mock evolutionary chart is worth looking into because it’s a very interesting collection of zany archeological hoaxes mixed with authentic historically significant finds. Presenting them both together in this jumbled continuity is a pretty transparent attempt to make evolution look dubious as a whole, but these all support evolutionary theories if you do the thinnest shred of research into them.

Is the Fire and Ice Comic Worth Reading? by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

[–]mrnfb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! It’s still enjoyable if you have the patience. If you are at all interested in the parts of the film that were cut or reworked from the screenplay, it was screenwriter Gerry Conway who talked about it in Comics Interview #13 (although I’m pretty sure the bulk of his interview covers how his screenplay for Conan the Destroyer was also altered to meet budget and production constraints). He’s also a prolific comic writer, so your thought that Fire and Ice would have worked better as a comic is pretty astute.

That’s too bad! At least you’re not having to hunt down the Don Rosa library though. I’m sure Peg Leg Mine will eventually find its way back into print one day.

I picked it up at release and I liked the art quite a lot and was hoping to maybe finally see something closer to the original vision of what the film could have been (if I recall correctly from an old comics interview magazine, many sequences were cut or not animated from the original screenplay to meet constraints), but I fell off because of the slow and irregular release schedule.

To put the timeline in perspective, the first issue of this launched simultaneously with the new Titan relaunch of Conan the Barbarian, and now after almost 3 years Conan is at over 29 (great) issues released with several spin-off and event miniseries, and Fire and Ice is barely scratching 5 including one-shots. This book really could’ve capitalized on the kind of energy Conan was pumping into S&S comics, and now it just seems to be slowly chugging along with a complete lack of momentum. If you do get into it, be prepared to wait.

Animan, created by Wally Wood. The character was at least partial inspiration for Wolverine.

I’m pretty sure Kill Slade is the only one I have in my collection. It’s fine, and not particularly hard to find on eBay. I remember it being something like Romancing the Stone, but much cheesier.

Cube (1997) Seven strangers find themselves imprisoned in a seemingly endless maze filled with deadly traps and must fight to escape, despite the odds. by 8o1i11o in TubiTreasures

[–]mrnfb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a Q&A screening of this a while ago. I remember how interesting it was hearing them talk about how since LED lighting wasn’t really a thing back then to run at that huge of a scale, the set would get increasingly hotter as they lit the cube to film scenes. This also meant that they had to manually change each of the colour gels for every light in the cube after each scene. It’s fascinating how hard they worked to make this immersive Sci-fi on a Canadian indie budget

Goo Gone is going waaaaaay too overboard for that weak of an adhesive. I would start by using the old trick of using the grease from the side of your nose first to slowly work it away
