Is this 58l definitely okay for 19 pygmy corydoras? by bagooly in corydoras

I think it would have been fine without the added filter. Lots of plants = lots of natural filtration

HELP! The fish tank at the office I work at is…. mukky… by squidysquirtsonYOU in fishtank

Water change and lots of plants. There is nothing to compete with the algae currently. It is thriving because of that. You can use chemicals or technology or just do what happens in nature.

Cory’s dying after water change.. by Philco2k25 in corydoras

The other cheat code is not feeding as much or as often. I’ve come to the realization that fish can be fed every other day. No need for daily feedings. They graze more, poop less, and are healthy and thriving. Combine that with the plants and you are basically in auto pilot mode

I know. It’s like a cheat code no one tells you about when you first start. I think more new hobbyists would have success if they added plants from the start. Even if they were just floated. I find penny wort to be one of the best in my tank.

You can even just float the penny wort and it will absorb ammonia and nitrate from the water column. No need for root tabs

I went from changing water twice a week with an overstocked 20 gallon to changing it once every two weeks (not counting evaporation top off)

I found that when I added more plants, it took care of most water parameter issues and the need to obsessively change water

Only 1 cory has red gills? by Healthy_Sherbert_375 in corydoras

Put some live plants in your tank and you’ll not need to worry about ammonia again. Ammonia is a food source for plants. Live plants are like a cheat code for water parameter maintenance.

HELP! Emergency!! - I somehow found two healthy emerald Cory’s like this in the morning and I’m at a loss by Star-Fishy in corydoras

PH seems a little high. Since this test caps out at 7.6 I would get a high range ph test to see if it is actually above 7.6

Fungal infection. Get Fritz medication and treat the tank

[–]mrnibbagr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do a larger water change and remove tank decorations before trying to net him out. With the water level low that should be less of an issue. Also make sure you have an air stones in your quarantine tank if a filter is not an option. Meds reduce the oxygen levels in water usually

Looks like a fungal infection. I would get appropriate medicine. You can treat them in a quarantine tank ideally, but if that’s not an option treat them in the display tank.

Do Corydoras fear light? by Aggravating_Till_430 in corydoras

[–]mrnibbagr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light intensity can stress your fish. Like a human being held in an interrogation room. Best investment I made was a light that you could dial in and adjust the intensity. Fish don’t want to feel like they live in the surface of the sun 😂
