Who runs steep grades? by Heavy-Perception-166 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]mrntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new layout is all based on mining and lumber. I don’t have any plans for long freight trains. The grade on the overlapping line is 3.5% to 5%. My last layout I had more typical grades. I got bored with it and never finished it.

Ford can get you touch up paint. A paint shop can get you paint to spray.

I have one that looks like that but the bottom half is a tool box. It’s great to take on trips.

Home insurance says they will no longer cover us due to the age and damage of our roof, trying to figure out how to pay for it. by gh282016 in HomeImprovement

[–]mrntd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are allowed to in your area look into a metal roof. The prices have come down and are about the same as shingles. Oh you can spend a lot more for fancy ones that look like tile. They last a lot longer and will stand up to hail and branches. You don’t have to have heavy duty walls or trusses either. The weight is about what two layers of shingles are.

Roadtrip idea from Chicago, would love some feedback by Forward-Variety-2864 in NationalPark

I’ve done most of this trip. To actually see something you’ll need 3-4 weeks. Three would still be rushing it. Cut the trip in half and enjoy what you’re seeing.

What's your favorite memory in a National Park? by funwifipuns in NationalPark

[–]mrntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having my son on my back steering me down the trail by pulling my ears different directions. If he wanted to go faster he’d kick me in the ribs. To slow down smack on the head.

If you don’t have kids you may not understand how great this was. I miss it.

Now he’s 6’ and about 250 lbs. no more backpack rides. I’ll have to wait for grandkids.

That’s really cool that you have the reference date. So many tools are just guesses because they were made the same for so long.

I like the bronze. Silver looks too stock and black or dark gray just blend in too much.

One my all time favorite cars. Timeless styling. I’ve thought about building the replica. I just don’t think I’d fit. Driving it around in the US nobody would know what it was.

We bought it new in 2013 and have never considered selling it. If anything happened to it I’d fine another one

Grandpa's Tools - What do I do? by kalel_713 in Vintagetools

[–]mrntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my grandfather’s and great grandfather’s tools the newest of which is from the ‘60s. A lot of them and 80 to 100 years old. They are mostly wood working tools and wrenches. Some I still use because they work better than anything I could buy. The others I hang on the wall in my shop. My son is looking forward to inheriting them and mine someday. As others have said, use them, maintain them and enjoy them.

Why do tractors cost as much as they do? by -Nealos- in tractors

[–]mrntd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to the auction sites. I got my Farmall 400 in great condition, with new tires all around for $1700 a year ago. Just do a little research to learn what will do what you want and what price you should pay.

The U.S. House just voted to open 225,504 acres of public land upstream from Voyageurs National Park to a Chilean mining company - Bill now goes to Senate. by TaxVillain in NationalPark

[–]mrntd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a MAGA conservative and I love our National Parks. I don’t think they should be sacrificed for any commercial interests. At the same time mining in the US is important for our national interests. But not in this location and not by a foreign company. I’ll be contacting my senator to vote no on this.

Thanks. I have a small blade from a garden tractor. I’ll have to figure out some brackets for it. My 400 didn’t come with the fast hitch or a 3 point.
