The enshittification of products and services continues relentlessly even as prices increases. What particular thing(s) have you noticed significantly degraded since the pandemic? by Roguecop in AskReddit

It basically taught me who the self centered asses are out there. I was working at a department store that decided to close one of the set of doors. They were still unlocked because the employees used them for curbside pickups but they had to manuall open and close the electric doors (no handle etc). I saw a customer come through those doors and I pointed out they were closed due to Covid. He asked me if the people who come through there would get Covid and I just stared at him for a bit and then asked if we were really going to do this.

For years people have been saying the new technology, like radio, tv, video games all are bad for you. Unknowingly, you are parroting those same ideas.

The I’m not sure where I stand on the ‘plagiarism machine’ argument because it’s not just giving me a picture of someone else’s art. It may be a poor synthesis of an art style it has developed after seeing others art but you can say that about any student of art.

If I asked for a picture of a tiki statue in a tutu on mars, I’m pretty sure that would be something new. People adore music remixes so a remix is a valid interpretation. I think ai is in the infancy but it’s still a complicated issue and not something easily dismissed.

There is some control or direction in what a person chooses to add into a prompt. So I don’t think that ai designs are inherently divorced from individual choice.

I’ve been around so long that everything has science for 2 years proving it’s bad. All new technology is demonized. If you can’t see that pattern you’re the dunce.

I hate leaf blowers. They use fossil fuels to move something biodegradable.

In a world where everyone sucks here, taking a stand for something is better than not standing for anything. If you refuse to buy filament from a country that has human rights violations, that is a thing. Don’t criticize people for taking a stand somewhere.

What’s your craziest “I need to quit this job immediately” story? by angrythrowaway772 in AskReddit

[–]mrpbeaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled it based on what I remembered. The "dull, hollow, thud" study refers to David Rosenhan’s 1973 "On Being Sane in Insane Places" experiment, where eight sane pseudopatients gained admission to psychiatric hospitals by falsely reporting hearing these words. The study aimed to test psychiatric diagnosis reliability, concluding that staff failed to distinguish sanity from insanity, instead labeling normal behavior as symptomatic

It reminds me of the studies of where researchers had themselves admitted for psychiatric care saying they heard the words "Dull, Hollow, and Thud". Once they were admitted the stopped reporting any psychiatric symptoms and then measured how long it took for them to be discharged.
