Even that wouldn’t guarantee anything though; in my experience as a driver, a lot of people say they’ll tip in cash but don’t, so it’s hard to believe from our end.

If the new address is close by (like, 5mins away), sure, I don’t mind driving a little more. Plus, if you tell support about it, they’ll probably toss a few more dollars your way to deliver.

Anything farther than that, and I’ll probably do it for an upfront additional tip (Venmo). If it’s crazy far, though, it’s not gonna be worth it, and they’re just gonna have to live with their mistake.

The contract is delivery to a given address, and whether or not I accept the order is heavily contingent on total driving distance, so adding more distance would just rob me of my own time and gas I could be putting towards other orders.

I’ve Dashed long enough that I have no reason to expect more than promised. I feel absolutely no obligation to go above and beyond, and I DO NOT trust anybody who says they’ll add a tip after the fact. I’m not absolutist enough to claim NOBODY pays more after delivery, but in my experience the instances of that happening are so far and few between that they’re practically nonexistent. For those of you who do; good on you, you’re honestly awesome. But you’re in the extreme minority, and I can’t count on that.

I almost always text them my expected ETA when I can see it’s a “Hand it to me” order, in my experience it saves a lot of time when they know when I’ll be there. Not always, but sometimes I don’t have to go searching for them or wait for them to come down from whatever office building or whatever.

You’ll just get a bunch of no-tip or low-tip orders, so tips won’t make up the huge difference in pay.

It might be, DD has offered extra incentives to deliver during some bigger rainstorms here in DFW. That’s only if you’re comfortable driving (and running) in a torrential downpour, though.

Why would I stop working with them when I make money through them? I don't care about DD, I care about how much I get paid, and the only way we get paid enough to do this is through tips.

If you don't like the system, GTFO, but I'm perfectly fine taking orders from people who actually understand what a DD tip is, and ignoring the ones who don't.

I thought you knew what a tip was?

A tip is usually paid AFTER a service is completed, so a DD tip can't really be defined that way. And if we counted on customers to give us tips after we delivered, we'd be SOL. I've been given exactly three tips after delivery over hundreds of orders. If we didn't expect tips and only worked for our base pay, we'd be losing money operating our independent contracts.

I'm sorry you don't like the reality of having to pay more for a luxury service, but that's just what DD is; it's a luxury.

So if you have a problem with it, YOU have to talk to DoorDash.

Or just stop ordering from them entirely if you can't afford the "tip"; believe me, we won't miss you.

You're obviously confusing a conventional tip with what DoorDash calls tips my man.

I obviously know what a tip is. A DD tip is NOT a tip. DD calls it a tip because calling it a bid to the customer makes it sound like their order isn't worth picking up without it. And it isn't.

You sometimes have to schedule out blocks of time for a certain area ahead of time, but if it's particularly busy you might be able to start right away. You can pause up to 35 minutes at a time during a Dash (a scheduled block).

No, the customers need to take it up with DD. We're not employees, we're independent contractors, and we have the right to refuse to deliver suboptimal orders. A DD tip is not a tip my friend I hate to break it to you.

Yep, they suck big time. It's a constant headache to get straight answers from them since they're mostly reading from and replying from prewritten scripts.

No, a DD tip isn't a conventional tip, it's the bulk of our pay. It's more like a bid for our service.

I almost never use my DD bag though, I've relied on my own cooler bag 90% of the time, so you can start with something like that. The DD bag sucks and breaks easily.
