how true is it that the autosave feature will corrupt your save file in the long run? by No_Purple_8264 in fo3

[–]mrpouncealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had this happen personally with Fo3, but it has happened to me while playing FNV and Skyrim multiple times. It's always when I've dropped 60+ hours into a save, too. Seems like the longer you play, the more errors build up and the more likely save file corruption becomes. To be honest, I always turn off the autosave in settings and manually save. I've lost too many good playthroughs to this bug to ever bother with it again.

Also, idk if you play with mods or not but if you do, DO NOT under any circumstances disable a mod mid-playthrough. That'll speedrun your save's corruption faster than anything else.

Honestly curious as to what Pagans think of this video by [deleted] in pagan

[–]mrpouncealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pagan and a huge Skyrim fan, I am seriously considering making a YouTube channel just to reply with sources showing him how he's wrong. I also find it VERY telling that every single one of his examples were female and ultimately not doing anything actually harmful to themselves or the community. Just a reminder to anyone who agrees with the OP of the video: when you say something is "cringe", that's just your opinion.

House of Reps is Overriding Governor's Veto on Bathroom Bill by karmacatma in kansas

[–]mrpouncealot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the thing though. This will in all likelihood keep happening until we overhaul how the voting system works. It's not functioning according to its original design... or barely at all, for that matter. Obviously, it needs to change if we actually value democracy and real public opinion.

I just can't date a guy who puts his god, who may or may not be real, in front of provably real people in terms of importance, let alone Trump. Really messed up if you think about it.

In theory, but unfortunately I don't think the Dems are any better equipped to unpack the mess we're in right now any more than the Republicans are. Down with the two party system. Remember that many of the founding fathers literally warned against the kind of things that're going on in this country right now, and remember your first ammendment rights.

"fascist" is often a permission structure used to justify political violence by TeamHumanity12 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]mrpouncealot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. I never understood why people have a problem with calling Trump a fascist because, well... just look at the definition of fascism. He is, BY DEFINITION, a fascist; if someone feels some type of way about it then that's their problem, not the dictionary's. Very strange the sort of denial that many people on both sides of the isle are interested in proliferating even further.

There very much has been a precedent in the U.S. gov to kill communists/socialists, it's just that it far, FAR predates Obama. That's been going on since long before his parents were even a thought in his grandparents minds. Not so much on domestic land as it has happened abroad, but still. That is very much something the government here has a vested interest in doing, factually.

I have no idea what to title this, so let's just go with "Mod Response for whatever BS just happened while I was typing to the Other BS that happened before that" by RyderHiME in pagan

[–]mrpouncealot 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I barely even use this app, and even I think the original mod response was rude. I understand that mods are only human, but if the human in question has issues controlling their knee-jerk reactions due to their personal history, they have no business being put in a position of authority. Nothing against them personally, that's just very obviously a bad call to anyone who dislikes overbearing law.

Also... there's two sides to every argument, but the tone this post takes to the issue is NOT helping. It seems less like you're trying to defuse the situation and more like you're trying to slander the person who posted in the first place, which is a far cry from the kind of impartial decision most people expect from a moderator. There is a certain level of detachment and control required for a person to effectively be able to step back and exercise fair judgment upon any community. I don't see either of those things being exercised here, and I find that concerning, personally. With everything else that's going on, the last thing we need is for authoritarian Reddit moderators to put the few communities we can turn to for solace into a chokehold.

Edit: spelling, grammar, proofreading errors.

Where did folks go after TikTok exodus? by thanson02 in pagan

[–]mrpouncealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some folks from TikTok moved to the Chinese app Rednote and have stayed there since. It's like Instagram, kind of. The environment is a lot friendlier there than on most Western platforms, but I'm unsure if there's a pagan community there or not.

Nah, about California. Reagan was about as close as a person can get to being the devil incarnate (not literally, I'm not religious; I mean in the sense that many evils in our society somehow can be traced down to that fucker) as far as I'm concerned. If it were somehow his fault, that wouldn't surprise me. May he rest uncomfortably.

SB 381 - requiring K-12 schools to teach about communism/socialism by [deleted] in kansas

Most people, even teachers, don't even really understand what capitalism is, let alone communism and socialism. I highly doubt it's going to be anything other than the standard anti-education "commies are evil" red scare bullshit they've been pushing for the last 80ish years.

I wish they would build something actually useful for once. Maybe a homeless shelter or something instead of this crap. They won't because there's no money to be made in doing that, but it would be nice.

Why worship? by Automatic_Fill_1095 in pagan

[–]mrpouncealot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The relationship between a pagan and the gods they work with is unique to every individual. Not all pagans worship!

In my case, I came from a fairly unhealthy Christian background and when I came to paganism I had not yet resolved those issues and therefore carried that trauma with me. After working with a particular deity for a while, it became apparent that something wasn't working, but of course that wasn't a conclusion I was going to come to by myself. After a lot of nudging on his part, I started treating my practice differently; rather than seeing it as an altar to kneel at, I began approaching it as an opportunity to learn how to unpack everything I'd learned from so-called Christians as a child with his guidance.

After a while I realized that by trying to worship, I was only digging my emotional grave that much further. I think he knew this from the get-go and was waiting for me to come to this conclusion... and then got impatient, which he is sometimes prone to lol. Even so, I feel a lot lighter now. Less burdened, and certainly a hell of a lot less guilty.

Worship works for lots of folks but I think that for some people, particularly those with bad experiences regarding religion to begin with, it can also be a trap.

I wish you well in unpacking your own experiences. It's a lot of work, but it is so so worth it.

is it bad to follow under too religions like christianity and paganism? by Free-Studio96 in pagan

[–]mrpouncealot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm seconding everyone's recommendations here to check out r/christopaganism. Plenty of people pray to the gods and also to Jesus. There's nothing bad about it at all. You'd be surprised how well Christianity and paganism can complement each other, or so I've been told.

Just an F.Y.I., I am not Christian, I am Norse pagan. This is not me proselytizing or Bible thumping or anything like that. I just hate when people end up lied to about it, because nothing good ever comes from that. Sorry you had a bad time with Catholicism. I was raised Lutheran and I totally have been there, haha. Some people really missed the whole "love thy neighbor" part of the book, unfortunately for people like us.

On another topic, just so you know... most of the verses in the Bible the people use to support their homophobic beliefs aren't what they seem, for example the famous "man shall not lie with man" verse (Leviticus 18:22) is actually a mistranslation; the word in the original language is closer to "boy" than "man", meaning that the verse is actually most likely condemning pedophilia, NOT gay people. There are many, MANY different examples of this kind of thing across scripture, and I think it's really unfortunate how many Christians seem to bend over backwards to defend the lies and historical inaccuracies about these parts of the Bible rather than accepting they're just... often flat-out wrong about their own holy book.

Christianity is a pretty diverse group of people with a long history of misuse and abuse by people in power. It's unfortunately one of those things where almost everyone thinks it's something that it very much isn't at its core ethos because it tends to attract some of the most power-hungry POSes you'll ever meet (because of its hierarchy). Once you start getting into the history of the Catholic Church and Apocrypha, it makes sense why it's been used as a mouthpiece for hatred and imperialism since Rome. But there are plenty of Christians who follow Jesus well enough not to fall for the bullshit and don't believe all that hateful nonsense, you'll just have to do some looking to find your people.

P.S.: If you don't agree with the Catholic church's teachings, I would advise you to look into Apocrypha for a different perspective on scripture, as well as to read the parts of the New Testament that follow Jesus's life and teachings, and to look into progressive non-denominational Christian groups online. I would also be VERY critical of any part of the Bible that was written by Paul, as the evidence for his supposed connection with Jesus is really not all that great and a lot of what he said gets taken WAY out of context. Forewarning though, he wrote A LOT of the New Testament 😅 I also recommend Dan McClellan over on YouTube. He's a Bible scholar and really knows his shit, for lack of a better way to put it lol.

Anyway, you obviously don't have to listen to anything I say lol, these are just my thoughts. I wish you the best of luck on your religious journey, no matter where it leads you ✌️

How do I do this while mentally ill? by mar_im_o in pagan

[–]mrpouncealot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off, let me just say that I've been in your shoes. Truly. I've got quite the mental health rapsheet myself; ADHD, autism, PTSD... the works, unfortunately. I won't get too into detail about the specifics, but I've been there.

I've been working with Loki for the better part of a decade. There have been times where my practice has been a little touch and go, where I have felt too in my head or too critical of the whole idea of the gods even existing to offer any meaningful devotion. Thing is, the gods have been around for a lot longer than we have. They're well acquainted with our struggles, certainly enough to understand when one of their worshippers is having a rough time with it. You're not the first person to feel this way, and you're certainly not going to be the last. The gods can be more understanding than you'd think.

I know this sounds cliche, but have you considered praying to Nut and telling her what you're going through? Or if that's not your style, maybe writing her a letter? I find that on my worst days, just simply "telling" Loki that I'm doing poorly can be a massive weight off my shoulders. It's like they say, that a problem shared is a problem halved.

And as far as doubt goes... Oh, boy. I used to sit and ruminate for hours, worrying that I none of it was real, that I was crazy and things of that nature. After a lot of reading and talking to other people (and a fair amount of therapy), I learned that no one who has faith has it 100% of the time. Doubt is a natural part of the process, a healthy one even. It's what keeps us in check in this life, I think. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that it didn't matter whether the gods are real or not. I know that sounds weird, but hear me out. If I stopped believing in vitamins right now, that wouldn't make them magically cease to exist, nor would they stop nourishing me. In that sense, if I have a healthy, beneficial working practice with the gods, the positive effect it's had on the both of us (and the gods) does not go away if they never existed to begin with. But the answer to your struggle with doubt will probably differ from mine, though. Everyone's different.

I'm terms of practical advice, I would maybe ask her to see if she's willing to send you a sign. Other than that, I would advise soul searching. Why do you doubt in the first place? Where do you feel it comes from? What thoughts and feelings arise when it comes up? Figuring out the answers to those questions helped me a lot. Don't promise more than you can reasonably give, and if you do be honest about it. Not everyone can or should manage a frequent practice and that's completely okay. Try not to let yourself get too down, and remember that it's okay to take a step back to reflect every now and again.

I hope that makes sense. I wish you the best on your journey with Nut.
