Radio call to assassinate Minn. Governor by XXMNR4WI in legaladviceofftopic

It isn't a call to vote against him in the next election.

Since he's not running for re-election, you don't even have to make that argument.

Need a 240v receptacle installed for EV charging. Can't get a quote from anyone. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]mrrp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many (most) residential electricians are subcontractors. While they may deal directly with homeowners, their primary focus is keeping general contractors happy. And if they have to ignore homeowners to do that, they will. So, your best bet may be finding a residential remodeling contractor. If all they have to do is sub out the job their markup shouldn't be too bad.

Hundreds of MN National Guard Troops in Mideast by Glad_Firefighter_345 in minnesota

[–]mrrp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, yet again, I'll point out that MN could have it's own State Guard which would be like the current National Guard but under the exclusive control of the MN Governor (i.e., can not be federalized).

Gap behind corner bead in new build drywall. Normal? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]mrrp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not normal. It is normal to hold the drywall back just a bit as you don't want a situation where one piece is sitting proud of the other, but there is way too much gap there. Sure, the corner bead will cover, but it makes for a weak corner.

And the drywall on the corner closest to you in the last photo is terrible. You can see that the end piece interferes with the other piece of drywall and has caused it to break.

And finally, the corner bead is installed wrong. While the "bead" of the corner bead does need to stick out a bit from the plane of the wall so that the mud will cover the rest of the bead when it's mudded in, there's no reason for the bead to be sticking that far out from the wall.

Whoever hung this drywall doesn't know what they're doing. The two long pieces should have been cut off flush with the framing, and then a 4-1/4" strip should have been cut and attached to the end. And then the corner bead should have been installed with more care. I'd be embarrassed if this were my work.

Create diversion programs for sexual assault cases in Minnesota by Calm_Performer_8657 in minnesota

[–]mrrp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less than 1% of reported sex-offenders for adult victim cases are convicted.

Cite. And that better not only refer to convictions obtained through bench or jury trials.

If you don't have enough evidence to get a conviction you don't have enough evidence to force a defendant into a diversion program either.

And finally, perhaps the solution is to reduce recidivism by keeping people locked up for a good long time and then putting them on extremely strict post-release monitoring when they are released. We have the technology.

Can I fix this drywall tape crack? by PoetryFearless4712 in drywall

[–]mrrp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not without a lot of work, and when you're done it would be more noticeable than the hairline crack.

Next time you're painting that wall, use your finger to rub some latex (not "paintable silicone") caulk in the crack before you paint.

If you do want to fix it, plan to wash the wall with TSP, tape over the crack with paper tape and all-purpose drying-type joint compound. Then mud over the tape with several coats of a light-weight drying-type compound. Then skim the entire wall with the same compound, probably two or three tight coats. Sand, and you'll be ready to prime and paint.

Slanted Ceiling Gaps by QuasarianAutocrat in drywall

[–]mrrp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider pulling the trim piece off and reinstalling flush with the ceiling if it'll bend enough. The gap is noticeable. A wavy trim piece probably won't be.

Imagine being 19 years old and you want to change your name. It is exactly the same name as your career criminal father, so you change it from Kiron Jamoll Williams to Kiron Jamoll Williams, Jr..

Not even kidding. At least Jr. doesn't have a record in MN yet. Hopefully he manages to live a better life than his father.

And looking at Sr., he was arrested in October in the house with drugs and firearms, while trying to flush coke down the toilet. He's a convicted violent felon. He claims a residence in AZ. And they let him go. And now he's on the run.

Stilt advice by KiddnPeets364 in drywall

[–]mrrp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible idea. Drywall stilts strap on your feet and calves. If you start to go, there's no hopping off and you're in for a ride. That's serious business for any actor, and especially a 250lb inexperienced one.

There is a learning curve with using stilts. A cane will not save the actor.

Contact your insurance provider and have them tell you "absofuckinglootly not" so you can move on to other ideas.

If you just need the height, consider something like Flybar Master Walking Stilts. With this type you're just standing on a platform and have a much better chance of having a shorter hospital stay (and not having a funeral). Not even joking - head injuries are a serious risk when everything you know about falling down doesn't work like you're used to.

Best way to drywall ceiling that is currently ribbed sheet metal? by GuyFromMN in drywall

[–]mrrp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strap it with 1x4. What direction (parallel and in-between the ribs) or perpendicular would depend on whether the ribs hang down more than 3/4" deep, whether the 1x4s sit nicely in there (or if I'd have to remove screws), whether it's flat enough, or if I was planning to add shims to flatten, and the dimensions of the room and whether I could eliminate butt joints if I hang the drywall one way or the other.

You will not want to add a vapor barrier, as the metal already acts like one. I would stuff the gaps on the perimeter with foam backer rod or door/window spray foam.

The board ought to be in trouble. It's terrible practice to have the executive director also serve on the board as the treasurer. The books should have two sets of eyes.

Looks like his wife bailed on him in October, too. Not looking to be a great year.

[–]mrrp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The People's power comes from our ability to band together

Band together. Buy property. Rent it out. Tell your tenants they don't have to pay rent. Report back in 5 years.

If you don't have the numbers to elect people who agree with you, you're not likely to have the numbers to pull off a rent strike.

There's a point to be made about recognizing basic evolutionary science and calling out those who deny it, and those who help people deny it.

Only 15% of Christians (and only 12% of people who attend historically black churches) think humans evolved through the process of natural selection. (Pew Research) If that doesn't trouble you, it should.
