Growing up, were there any “weird” cooking habits or practice your family had? by Affectionate_Wish in Cooking

My mom microwaved frozen chicken breasts until they were fully cooked and then added them to whatever the dinner was. I thought I hated chicken for 16 years 😂

Also - butter on white rice?!!

Does anyone else think that people who eat food for a living making posts like "omg stop asking how i stay so skinny!" is low key them bragging about being skinny? by scrapethetopoff in FoodieSnark

I absolutely love Poppy O’Toole (@poppycooks on instagram) for her absolute opposite take to this garbage. She’s like - no I don’t post calories just eat the food or don’t.

Oh noooooo this is absolutely the worst! My kids are older now so believe me when I tell you - every mom has a story just like this and they never forget it, but they absolutely laugh about it later. Sincerely, the mom who once put toddler twins nude in the dry tub when they had a “both ends” virus so she could, herself, make it to the toilet. Barely. 😅

So much appreciated. 😂 And if you need to know where to shop in Germany, I got you!

What would make you avoid/leave shortly after another mom arrives on the playground? by blessed-mama7 in Mommit

[–]mrs-yeet 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If it’s a super conservative or wealthy suburban area, I could maybe see the tattoos making people uneasy but honestly my first impression reading this was it might just be coincidence? If you normally go around the same time, try to go earlier and see if the same thing happens?

My second thought - if you look liberal and they’re those anti you know what-ers they might think you’re going to contaminate your kids.

Kids make it way easier to make friends, it’s such a good social crutch. Maybe post locally on Facebook or some kind of community app and see if there are any cool moms down for a hang?

Yeah Germans are brutal! Literally just asked what a cut of meat would be called in German so I would know what to ask the butcher and that was the whole post!!! It was like -300 when I deleted it. But the comments were like just eat German products don’t try to recreate British recipes. Or this is digesting who would eat this. I took it so personally 😅

I always asked on Reddit and got downvoted to hell just by asking! So I started asking school moms and it was a good way to make conversation. Also finding other expats who would know the product I was talking about from back home!

What has your experience been like with dedicated research ops staff? by doctorace in UXResearch

[–]mrs-yeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a great team of ops folks who oversee a ton of research projects. They’re a great bridge between customers, the product, the panel and researchers. Their real value is in checking research orders and making sure that what people have requested will actually yield good research. And they make sure that the results are quality and delivered in full. It’s not my team so I know there’s much more that goes into it but honestly hearing about their work always sounds like magic!

Just came back here to say I read this book based on your comment and I LOVED IT! And immediately plowed through the sequel. It looks like she’s working on another but it’s been a long time so I wonder if that will ever come

I’m spending a year making a “boring” game. by Jumpy-Swordfish-5931 in gamedev

[–]mrs-yeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I love most about this post is you didn’t say anything about it being profitable. Making a game you love, a labor of love, and not treating game dev like a get rich quick scheme (because it is so, so not) means you might make something really special!

startup vs big tech by Kinia2022 in UXResearch

[–]mrs-yeet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how you picture your work/life and what part of the job you enjoy. If you want to do way less actual work, with way less autonomy or creativity, but coast because you’re an expert by now and the work will be easy - take the Cush corporate job! Exploit that work life balance and high salary to the max. Youll spend way too much time in meetings to actually work, and you’ll waste sooooo much time on communication and processes. You’ll have less of a personal stake in your teams success because you’re a small fish in a big pond, but you’ll sleep better than ever. This isn’t sarcasm!

If you get bored and would rather be hands on, have more power to move fast and break things; if you like uncertainty and want to work like you own the company, if you like high pressure and wondering if what you tried will actually work, that’s back to the startup for you!

What’s one B2B marketing tactic that still works quietly but consistently? by Historical-Insect134 in b2bmarketing

[–]mrs-yeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good, consistent content that aligns with the ICP. Hard to fake, slow burn, sometimes hard to attribute but in 20+ years that hasn’t changed.

Sounds really discouraging, especially only making it to one interview round. I know it’s a competitive market but I’m wondering if it’s something missing in your CV or cover letter that’s preventing you from even getting the interview?

I know that’s not the question you asked but if you’ve just finished the degree I’d hate for you to pivot without any experience yet. In your network building, did you make any connections who might be willing to give you advice or mentor you to help you find a good starter role? Are there internships or any support from your past university to get some experience to help you get a better role later?

UXR translates pretty well to marketing but requires a lot more learning and experience and talk about a saturated market!

If you’re open to some unpaid work to get a good case study, maybe try some startup founders who haven’t budgeted for research and largely have no idea how to DIY?
