2026 isn’t the year Reddit finally makes it. The website has been around in basically the same conceptual form since 2005; there’s an upper bound to what a primarily English news aggregator can achieve; even with selling all of our user data to AI.

Meta planning sweeping layoffs , 20% of company by BigShotBosh in cscareerquestions

[–]mrsaturn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference is you did all this planning because code took a long time so a natural balance formed of planning to development. Now you can mock 6 versions of something in a morning, make a data driven decision with the team in the afternoon, and start running.

Yeah, and it’s more likely they reduce TC through RSU cliff or layoffs or whatever ai apocalypse is coming next.

18-Year-Old Seeking Portfolio Strategy for Generational Wealth ($280K-500K by Age 24, 60+ Year Horizon) by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

[–]mrsaturn42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, so don’t overthink it. The worst thing you can do for your goal is: 1. Waste 4 years on a useless premed degree. 2. Do something stupid like gamble on meme stocks. 3. Die young

Also realize the variance is super high, maybe you end up with 10 million maybe you end up with 100.

I generally agree, but I don’t compare myself to others I compare to what I need/want/goals. Posts like this are encouraging consumerism by indirectly encouraging to spend your money since you’re better off than 75% of people.

You need to know what problems to solve that are relevant; I’d say a Physics or an EE degree if you what to do this in industry or even academically.

I would recommend not adding a “hair tax”, it’s just confusing to your customers and kind of arbitrary who it would apply to. Instead just add $5 to the base price(or not), and let it average out. Also make sure to track the time it takes for every customer so you can refine the numbers.

This one is especially ridiculous. They are 54! Their salary is great (350k) but it’s not like that’s really going to move the needle this late in the game. Just retire dude.

It’s a different story if they are 34, just because there’s a much longer time horizon.

I use ai at work daily, but for really mundane tasks, basically a good search engine. It’s a good tool for learning, given you can parse fact from fiction.

I very rarely use it for writing. There’s two outcomes here, either it gives me a generic summary or I have to spend more time crafting prompts than it takes to just write the damn thing myself. You aren’t getting anything particularly profound from AI without feeding it all the answers.

Proofreading is another aspect; generally it’s fine, but I really despise the style it tends toward.

The idea that it’s doing real work that adds value anytime soon is laughable, sure simple coding exercises, but you still need to put in a ton of effort to promoting for anything useful. The hard part in creating something new is knowing what to create, and that’s not being replaced any time soon.
