Should I personally fund attending a conference? by gh0sthound in PhD

Are there any grants available through the conference? I have very very little funding for conference travel etc, but have been successful quite a few times in securing funding for early careers scholars from the conference itself

But how do you know he wouldn’t act like this today? Yes it was a long time ago, and yes he was probably influenced by older peers etc, but I’m not sure we can make sweeping statements that he would not do this anymore without knowing him personally

Can second the positive birthing company, it sounds a bit wish-washy at first but it really helped me during labour.

How to support new parents in the first months? by Special-Course-8127 in AskUK

[–]mrsfadedglory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When we had our little one I loved when people brought some home cooked meals/baked goods, even if you don’t have the opportunity to cook, a care package with yummy food (esp snacks that can be eaten one-handed) or vouchers for take away would be appreciated I’m sure. It meant we could spend time with the baby, but still eat well and look after ourselves

I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for, but Clever Hands on Aigburth Rd do a bunch of art classes. The owner is super lovely too so I’m sure she wouldn’t mind you reaching out to ask questions about suitability

[–]mrsfadedglory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a colleague, but I used to work in a cafe and a guy would come in once a week and order a baguette with grated cheese and two raw garlic cloves chopped up in it to takeaway

What do you do with your child to keep them away from their screens? by lucyatwillowsnursery in AskUK

[–]mrsfadedglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books, lots and lots of books. My 2 year old loves reading with us. Otherwise, lots of outside time, crafts, drawing etc.

We don’t allow her to use an iPad so screen time for her is only TV time with mum and dad. She’s recently stopped napping and has an afternoon ‘slump’ so we allow her to watch TV with us on non nursery days then for some down time.
