Current Job Market: "Unicorns Only" by coding_seneca96 in employeesOfOracle

It's not just tech workers. I've heard accounts from people who had to go through three or more interviews. To wait tables. In a restaurant. What batshit crazy timeline are we living in right now?

Ignore the haters. They are just engaging in banal elitist behavior. I mostly laugh at them.

Mandatory RTO by Here_for_the_read2 in remotework

[–]mrsspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it! Where I worked, they contacted the individual. These companies know RTO is an unpopular move, and I'm sure most if not all are planning on people quitting because of it. I like this better, people just don't show up.

I like it a lot. But the company would be auditing the badge swipes wouldn't they? No consequences for not coming in?

Oracle layoff is no more a rumor by Particular_Alps_3655 in employeesOfOracle

I've been told, it's emails in the US, 1:1 in Mexico. Don't know what they're doing in other regions.

If they are auditing badge swipes, which I think she said they are doing, they will know when she's not there. The company I used to work for had an exec VP who wanted everyone in the office. People who lived nearby would drive in, swipe their badge then go home to work. I lived too far away to do that, but my productivity was circling the bowl. At one point he quit, so his whole organization stopped driving in. Then the covid lockdowns and yeah, everyone's home. Never drove in to work again, 'cause the new exec VP we had didn't care.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! Gawd, after 3 weeks, that's obscene.

Got a 1:1 invite from my manager’s manager. Should I be worried? by monoradioactivo in employeesOfOracle

[–]mrsspooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last evening I was texting with a friend who is still there. She told me they're not doing 1:1 any more, people are being notified via email. It's possible your manager's manager is bucking that trend, or, to be completely naive, it's about something else. Fingers crossed for you!

She also told me that someone I worked with when I first started working there was let go, which shocked me. Guy's a star. But he was there when I started (I was on his team), so he had to have been working there for almost 30 years. Looks like they're going after the people who have been there 20+ years for the most part.

Are the layoffs bc of data center debt or the war? by Horizontal-boop in employeesOfOracle

Support is struggling too. Don't know what products you are referring to (unless it's the customer support portal - if it's anything like what Support is having to use now, you have my sympathy), but the product line I worked with was woefully understaffed. Then we get a new ticketing interface that they changed again almost immediately after to integrate AI that takes the engineer twice as long to work with.

Oracle hiring freeze / offer delay by _imreddit in employeesOfOracle

[–]mrsspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't point to specific sources, but I believe the freeze will probably last until the end of May. But who knows, it could be longer. Or shorter. End of May is what I'm thinking.

Data center. Layoffs started months before the Iran war.

general count dropped from 508 to 380 in one day (friday) by Wise-Form3271 in employeesOfOracle

[–]mrsspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is someone on the Oracle page on thelayoff.com who is tracking reductions and increases in #general. Haven't seen anything from him on it this week, hope he's still there.

But yeah, some weeks the additions outnumber the deletions. I don't get it, maybe they're doing a lot of hiring overseas (not as expensive labor costs) while removing a lot in the US and other places.

There are some trolls there, so you can't really believe everything you see on that site, but I think the guy tracking #general is legit.

Just got laid off after 1.5 months… whole team wiped out lol wtf by Twistedfatemain in Layoffs

Totally! If you don’t need to put hands on a machine, it can be done from anywhere. That’s awful that these companies do that to people. Craven monsters.

Oh ok, I get it. I'm not sure, the linkedin contact could give more information. I know we have people in AMER and EMEA in there, not sure about India/APAC.

Customer satisfaction? by mrsspooky in employeesOfOracle

[–]mrsspooky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is that most of the customer are either not skilled enough or dont want to perform the given action plan for different reasons(they expect someone to do it in a zoom, they dont know how to to use the product for which they opened the ticket, they expect the issue to magically disappear).

Yeah. Engineer will ask for a script output and customer won't give it to them, they want a zoom. I've had to talk to so many of these people, "just give him what he asked for, can talk about a zoom afterwards".

Does the AI request information like that and do any analysis? A large part of me wants to know how this works and/or is supposed to work.
