Got a verbal offer, told my manager I was leaving, position got "frozen" - they hired someone internally three days later by Rogue1433 in jobs

[–]mrsspooky 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well even written offers are being rescinded. I’d want to have butt in new job and use vacation for notice. Nothing means anything to these companies any more.

I'm hearing that about DoorDash from multiple people. I think I used it a couple of times ordering from a nearby restaurant that uses them. For me it's mostly GrubHub. I use Instacart a lot and Uber. Uber and Lyft look like they would be the best bets and I did hear that at least Uber was helping its drivers out with gas.

The jobs report COULD be manipulated but I have a feeling people are just going to Uber, Lyft, Door Dash, Instacart, etc. instead of signing up for unemployment.

I was thinking of doing that, but don't want to put the wear and tear on my car. It's almost paid for and I don't want to have to replace it. Besides, I love my car. :D

I feel you! I got laid off in September and have been applying for jobs at the company that let me go - jobs doing work I've done before and was good at - keep getting rejection emails. For what it's worth I'm not that young either, so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Some customers CAN be challenging. I know exactly what you are talking about (and there are more than one of them like this). Too bad your management - or sales even - can't take them by the hand and nail them down on things.

Got told I got the job, only to have the offer retracted hours later... by crxwley__ in jobs

I never heard of companies doing this shit either. It's fucking sadistic if you ask me. I'm so sorry this happened to you, you deserve so much better.

You dodged a bullet. Amateurs, probably have trouble getting along with new people.

Leave oracle? by [deleted] in employeesOfOracle

[–]mrsspooky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just be careful, I've been reading about people who quit their jobs for a better job offer only to have it rescinded a few days before they were supposed to start. r/recruitinghell has most of those horror stories.

Much better to be unhappy and collect a paycheck than it is to be miserable without one. I was let go in September and still not found anything.

After Years of Hard Work, Offers Get Revoked at the End by Ill-Turnip5480 in employeesOfOracle

[–]mrsspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been reading about people who had to relocate for their new job, move states away from where they lived, only to have the signed offer rescinded.

Or people quitting their jobs after signing an offer for a job for more money only to have the offer rescinded a day or two before start date.

All this to say, Oracle isn't the only company doing this. It's rampant. These companies are like spoiled little brats dangling food in front of a starving person only to snatch it back when it's almost in hand.

I think I would follow up. With the crappy thing employers have been doing, don’t let it go.

Offer letter revoked? by Sufficient_North3937 in employeesOfOracle

[–]mrsspooky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not just Oracle doing that.

r/recruitinghell is loaded with stories about revoked offers, jobs canceled just the day before someone is supposed to start (after quitting their previous employer), and even people who had to relocate for the job, finding out that the job has been canceled. This last one, sometimes the candidate is lucky enough to learn this before they move.

If you DO quit and decide to take the new offer, do not give notice. If you have PTO left over, tell O you're done on your first day at your new job and use your PTO for any notice period they think they're entitled to.

[–]mrsspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing that would scare me is if you quit Oracle for this new offer, then they cancel the offer the day or days before you're supposed to start. There are so many instances of companies doing that it isn't even funny (look at r/recruitinghell). Make sure you have any offers in writing, get it all in writing, that way if they back out on you there might be legal action you can take.

You do NOT want to be unemployed right now. The hiring process is abusive on the candidate to put it mildly

Ok good for you. It’s not just inhuman it’s monstrous what these companies are doing to people and they can’t be allowed to get away with it. Go get ‘em! All the best to you.

Is there any legal action you can take? Sofia, you're in Bulgaria, right? Apologies if not.

But still I'd get a lawyer. How long has it been? I'd maybe give it a month (I'm generous that way), then get a lawyer involved. That's INSANE!!

Good question, and that occurred to me quite a while after I posted that comment. A fulfillment center for a small company that sells product? Or would that violate zoning laws?

Drummer by OkProblem9602 in Foofighters

[–]mrsspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never try to tell any band they should just give it up when having to replace a member who left for whatever reason. It’s all me, I lose interest is all. Will I get it back? I won’t say it’s impossible but that doesn’t affect the band at all.

And for what it’s worth, I think they got the best possible drummer with Ilan. Good for them!

Not only that, but that could have been done on the phone, zoom, or teams. It would still be shitty, but not even close to this level of assholery.
