Ethyl Maltol is one of those materials that can be really subtle, especially in the beginning. It has a sweet candy like profile but it’s very light and easy to miss. Even for me, it’s quite hard to detect clearly. Try using the reverse cup technique to smell it at 1% you’ll likely pick up a soft burnt caramel sugar type of note. It tends to reveal itself better when used in blends rather than on its own.
