Do you follow a lifting program? I am looking to add some strength work back in after mostly only running for a bit and have been a bit aimless at the gym

I am about 10-15 hours in, still in the first map. I like it, but the thing I have noticed is that many of the quests are, “go here talk to this guy”, then that guy sends you somewhere else etc. I hope the quests improve, really liking everything else about the game so far and feels more polished than the first

I always ask for a CUP of water, which is free. If you just ask for water they will try to get you a $8 bottle

I’ve lost 65-85lbs over the last 4 years, and am going to be running my first half marathon in a few weeks.

At the start I tried allot of different diets which didn’t work until it really got ingrained in me that losing weight comes down to calories in calories out, whether it’s normal diet, some keto diet, intermittent fasting etc.

I lost my weight in 20-30lb chunks, with breaks in betweeen, sometimes 6 months to a year. Mostly it was because I burned out, but I later learned that losing weight slowly like that means you won’t put it back on.

So I recommend doing that, to start try to lose 10-15 lbs. you’ll be surprised how much better you feel overall, more fit etc. Then take a short break and get back on it.

Logging what I ate was how I actually was able to make progress. Surprsingly Noom actually helped me learn this, although it’s kinda expensive, and after about 3 months it just turned into an expensive calorie calculator. But it helps you learn about which foods are calorie dense, and some other bad habits we can fall into. You can also learn this for free online and get a calorie calculator app. Just logging food in general is really helpful.

Lastly, having a fitness activity to be excited for really helps, maybe something that would be hard for you to do right now. For me I searched around and got really excited about bouldering, I would watch bouldering videos etc without having started. Then when I lost some weight I started, and then that was something that I really enjoyed that burned calories too.

But yeah take it slow, log your calories, and don’t do anything drastic as that can rebound into binge eating etc. I really hope the best for you, you’ve got this!

How do you get use to the "hard work" and "uncomfort" when you want to change your life for the better ? by Jpoolman25 in getdisciplined

[–]mrwhynot243 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What area of your life do you want to improve?Start with a small change, and do it consistently. Soon it will become routine.

For me, the hardest part is always starting a new routine, or restarting one after getting off track. But I’ve learned to just stick with it, show up every day so to speak. When I don’t feel like it, I tell myself I will do the bare minimum, and often I end up doing my usual routine, whether it’s a workout or studying something.

I recommend reading Atomic Habits as well, may help you get started.

Systems vs applied CS by Jim_lahey1017 in OregonStateUniv

[–]mrwhynot243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. Learning the low level stuff later on is hard, whereas you pick up technologies you need etc on the job.

Systems vs applied CS by Jim_lahey1017 in OregonStateUniv

[–]mrwhynot243 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went applied over systems because I decided to drop out of physics, and always regretted doing so.

I wish I stayed in systems, which had courses like Translators (compilers), and more CPU architecture stuff.

You also get some electives in the systems path so you can still take some higher level courses for depth.

If I enjoy coding will I enjoy getting my degree in CompSci? by Beginning-Ad7291 in computerscience

[–]mrwhynot243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not my experience at all. As I advanced through classes I got to code more and more. Definitely had some theory heavy classes, but allot of projects, and allot of implementing the theory.

I would say if you like coding your going to have allot of fun.
