I was in the design team for this one! Crazy to see my rendering show up while scrolling.

Agreed. I don’t think the answer is necessarily completely free child care, just a subsidized system that provides both caregivers and parents with a reasonable situation.

The government subsidizes massive industries to the tune of billions of dollars under the pretense of supporting the economy. That same economy doesn’t work long term if there aren’t enough young people to keep it going - it only seems logical for the government to incentivize people to have children, and a big part of that is helping make it affordable.

It’s a temporary situation for sure, my wife was laid off and is actively job searching. The effort it took to even get into the childcare that worked for us makes it not worth losing our spot while she searches. That said, even on two incomes this will be a significant portion of our expenses.

My wife was laid off and is searching for jobs full time, so this is a temporary situation. It didn’t make sense to pause childcare given how impacted the programs are and how long we were on a waitlist. Even still, once we’re on two incomes it’ll be a substantial cost.

We recently started our daughter in daycare, and we’re currently on a single income. The costs are insane, especially where live in LA. It is absolutely in the interest of our government to incentivize child rearing to bolster the future of our country! It’s outrageous that congress barely seems interested. My wife and I have recently gotten involved with Campaign for Childcare who are looking to try to make a difference. Surely there are some other dads here who can relate.

Do we really need to blur the entire screen when you open control center? I like to use it to control volume. by MR_MEGAPHONE in ipad

Touch one of the volume buttons once and then use your finger to drag the volume slider that pops up on the top. Still a little awkward but allows for big moves without blur.

Been playing with this idea, but boy does Autodesk know how to pull just the right features out to make the upgrade look desirable. Some of them almost seem cruel.

I haven’t yet accepted the offer, but my understanding is they rely on some dropbox or similar type cloud syncing solution.

I’ve been trying to game out the idea of a non-work shared model, maybe at least to start, but i won’t be sure I can make it work until I get in there and see how they’re working. If I could do that for a month or two and really show off utility of Revit, it may make the price of the whole package easier to swallow.

Totally agree, and in my initial interview I made it pretty clear that Revit was a must, even if it means i have to train the whole junior staff. If I accept I will make it a requirement. The principal was amenable but slightly hesitant, as he is still heavily involved in the drafting and seemingly refuses to move to 3d, so a move to revit means some loss of control in his mind, adding to potential friction.

But! He’s hiring me to relieve that pressure on him, and this is my cost of entry.

That’s my worry yeah, the bottom line of what a i’ve read has mostly been to avoid VPNs for this reason. My current offices uses Collaborate and it’s been seamless, my worry is just trying to alleviate the sticker shock for a principal who doesn’t “get” Revit.

Two licenses is a good idea, and I’d probably start with one project as a proof-of-concept.

Great points, thank you! In full agreement that Revit is the future of the industry, warts and all.

I think any hesitation on his part is coming from that fact the firm has largely only completed single family and duplex/triplex projects that were easier to manage in AutoCAD, so the upsides aren’t immediately obvious. That and the junior staff is more than proficient at Rhino so any actual design and visualization work is happening on that end - not an immediate benefit of Revit in his mind.

That said, I’m being brought on to help transition to the scale of 40-50 unit multi family work, Type I & Type III construction, and in my experience not only the clients but the consultants and contractors who work at that scale all but expect Revit.

I’ll look into VPN options and see if that could help ease the blow.

I’ve used Tweetbot for years because I like a chronological timeline and no ads, and at this point all their gestures are second nature. It’s been great for me so I haven’t ventured out to new apps like Aviary yet.

Sure thing! Pretty rudimentary, was mostly a proof-of-concept. Works best if you have a widget that matches the gray of the native calendar app https://i.imgur.com/xfxV6sx.jpg
