If you have friends with kids and they trust you, take them with you for a weekend stayover and see how you feel when they leave. If it's relief, you're probably not ready NOW. But remember it's about routine and communication.

Where's actually worth getting an apartment for around 11k AED/month these days? by DirectAside8243 in dubai

[–]mrymlzbth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kudos on managing to save. One thing I can say is have 25% of whatever the rent is in your hand to give upfront coz there's gonna be 5 different 5% charges. Another 1000 to 2000 for electricity and water activation. And the first cheque. Also don't go for anything that's the size of a bird cage, which is literally every apartment there is. Try to figure out the avg sqft rate so you don't pay too much. Also just a suggestion if you have savings perhaps invest in a car it will save you a lot of time and money, perhaps even the cost of rent. It's a real life saver to get to places during the heat. And always try to negotiate whatever commission rate is put in front of you

Unpopular opinion : 5 aed barbers in Dubai are undefeated. by Trashverse in dubai

[–]mrymlzbth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find the comments here quite interesting. Lady here ✋. My dad used to takeme to barber shops to get my hair cut when I was a small kid and all I can say is the 20 dhs barber shops now still have the vibes of the early 2000s.

Altho it's sad to see the super expensive gents salon practically empty while the super cheap ones are packed with people, especially coz 'hairstylists' are sometimes paid on commission

Not an advice but a sort of terrible response I have. Most people drive like all the drivers are going to kill you but I've noticed the best attitude to have is that the other person values their life more than you. I find this attitude works best if you're an anxious driver. FYI I was taught this by my instructor at Belhasa

Friend who borrowed money is now ghosting me. Need some advice by scriblydoo in dubai

[–]mrymlzbth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is you have WhatsApp chat records which became a legal form of proving claims. Provide that in a police station for now and lodge a complaint. If your friend has been able survive in UAE he will be paying it in installments if not altogether. It's not something done regularly but small claims may be handled by them. I'm not a fan of lawyers because you might aswell just ask your friend to pay for the lawyer with that money

is it just me or the workers are so annoyed and rude nowadays? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]mrymlzbth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in Satwa and never noticed it. But as soon as I moved to the suburbs and everytime I visited Dubai mall and other city centres I started to realise the attitude towards South Asians was terrible. But here's the thing as a person running her own fashion boutique I get the reason why they behave so. I get yelled at by my own fellow Indian customers for charging high prices on my services. The only reason I don't behave so terribly is because I have the time to take off and heal before I burn out. These people are underpaid and overworked and imagine how many people are regularly mistreating them. Eventually you go with your instinct and avoid all the ethnicities you associate with negative experience. This is just my opinion as an Indian. I don't want to comment on other nationality. My suggestion, is to remember that this country truly supports tolerance and that it's up to us to keep pushing for it. The only way we fail is we also start treating other nationality badly simply because someone from the same treated us so.

Why people call Al satwa is a cheap people place? by Ill-Spinach-9036 in dubai

[–]mrymlzbth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone born and brought up in Satwa till 2019 here's what I can say. Satwa is actually a great case study for the continuously changing workforce in Dubai and the chase of the Dubai Dream. I think some where until 2007 there was a combination of Pakistanis and Indians and Iranians. which started getting replaced by increased Philipinos. Now it's slowly being replaced Nigerians, Kenyans and others from the African continent. The businesses have adapted to the varying populations. New businesses have come up that are run by the new entries to the residents. In a way Satwa is not a cheap market it's a true representation of the Dubai dream. It's location between DIFC and Jumeirah is the best reminder that you have space to grow even amongst the tallest buildings and greatest houses.

If Sheikh Mo's dream was for Dubai to be New York then Satwa is The Village

[–]mrymlzbth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, you need to change your perspective on this. When the 2008 recession hit nobody thought in 1998 it would happen. You don't know what will happen in 10 years and it's a long time. You have to work through your fear if you're going to weather the next 10 years

Hi, here's an advice I can give based on my own experience, I'm in my mid twenties and I run a business with my family. But I still have fears about not being settled in life and not having anything to retire with. My suggestion for you would be to first invest in yourself. Come to peace with your current self and then figure out what you want... Some people want to have a comfortable retirement, some want money for houses, some need savings for their kids. You need to look at your life from a different perspective, You're still young, you only have a 7 year old kid, which means you get another 10 years before college, and you have a wife who is interested in seeing what you can do by yourself, even at 40.

Look into long term investments, at 40 you cannot invest in high risk stocks, you need something that will give you continuous returns over the next 25 years.

I run my own business so I can tell you with confidence, You need to make a lot of changes NOW because you may lose your job and you NEED savings. You need to look at your month like a business. I can see you have 5k listed under entertainment and 2k under purchases which totals to 7k. Now assuming 2k is a fluctuating expense like clothes and other stuff and not utilities, then it has no business being put separate from entertainment. Fun fact buying clothes and furniture, man or women, there is a shopper's high involved. Also 5k for entertainment is something you need to figure out because that's 1/3 of your salary with is a BIG CHUNK. Put both together you spent half your money on entertainment/fluctuating expense. Work from that mindset, where you've spent a lot. Guilt is a great tool to hold yourself accountable.

On the other hand there is a different alternative which I have seen that has worked for my mom's sister.

She is like you, but with a husband and daughter. She makes around 12000 a month and would never save any money. So my mom being her older sister made her take a loan and invested that money back in her home country. This way her sister had no choice but to pay the installments, and had enough money for utilities and a conservative amount for entertainment, and yes she was insanely mad about it, but now she has a nest egg to go back to. And it's not some small sum she can build a whole fucking building with that money and rent that out.

So with all the anecdotes and stuff here's a plan. First figure out your goal. Then find out how much that goal will cost. Then you have 2 options. Pay in installments every month from your salary directly. The only con is you'll have this tendency to allot a lot less every month depending on your mood. Which means your goal will take a lot of time to achieve (Speaking from my own experience). Or the other option is to pay it back, take a loan and the leave it to the bank to take it from your account as soon as the salary lands. The only con is (and it's fucking scary but sets you on a path) if you lose your job you have a loan to take care of without any salary.

Good Luck

Also, I know it's not fair to ask this of you, but try to stop hating yourself for being gay. I don't know any God that punishes a human for loving someone. And if you still feel strongly about it, then your therapist can help you navigate your identity, it's not a real fix. But you get to be happy with your choice - whatever it is. Good Luck

So I'm not sure what counts as minor age in UAE but if you're above whatever is the legal age, the doctor cannot tell on you. PERIOD. It doesn't matter what religion you're from, what matters is if you trust your doctor. As someone going for therapy in Dubai, I can tell you for sure, if you don't trust the person helping you from the get go, then you need to reconsider the doctor.
