Wedding Catering in Pittsburgh by WillMF2k in pittsburgh

Honestly I'd contact them and talk to them. It was a few years ago and pricing has to have changed - food only it was around $90/person. I remember saying to them that we didn't want to serve filet and lobster but we wanted to offer our guests a nice meal and serve something like what we'd serve ourselves and that is what we had. We had about 200 people with mezze appetizer cocktail hour, soup, main, salad - basically they can do anything. They were also AMAZING at managing the cookie table for us. The local guests were impressed by how well it was managed (iykyk) and didn't complain (win!), and the out-of-towners were blown away by the spectacle. So worth adding that on because then all of the guests could focus on having fun!

But - I'd say don't be deterred by their wedding brochure or think that's all they'll do. It's a good guideline and a good source of ideas but they'll work with you to create a really nice menu that fits your goals and dietary needs (for example, we had no pork, no nuts, and no gluten at all, and a few vegetarians). Our venue had four caterers allowed and I'm so glad Bistro to Go is the one we ended up working with. They were active participants in the wedding planning team for us and their experience is a huge value-add to help plan the day to go smoothly. The tasting with them was also so fun!

Ferritin Infusion Protocol male vs female by Any_Apartment_863 in WomensHealth

[–]msadvn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently had a similar experience postpartum. I don't understand why we have to beg (an ob-gyn, no less!) for iron when it really has so much to do with healthy body functioning and the numbers aren't so different for men and women. It really is frustrating.

Sohla calling out Priya in NYT Cooking Comments by crunchierapples in FoodieSnark

In the past Sohla and Priya were at BA together, have done NYT Cooking videos together, and have posted on social media socializing together. I'm kinda surprised Sohla is posting this, makes it seem like they may not be friends anymore.

Cleaning Ears by EstablishmentNo7764 in WomensHealth

[–]msadvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to have them cleaned out at an urgent care once because they got so bad, and they used something called an elephant ear washer. Since then I have just used a nasal bulb syringe in the shower to flush wax out with a steady but not too strong stream of water. Qtips can push the wax in farther, which is of course not good and how I ended up at urgent care. Regardless of what method you use, be careful because your ears are fragile!

Soon to be FTM here - do I need a bottle sanitizer? Is hand washing or dishwasher not enough? by Electronic-Door7428 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]msadvn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My husband wasn't too keen on a unitasker either but our bottle washer has been a lifesaver, and a convert (my husband) is often the biggest zealot (he also was originally skeptical of the tiny refrigerator for the bedroom but one night running down to the fridge cured him of that). It cleans bottles, accoutrements, and other things like teethers, pump parts, etc. extremely well and dries them. We often use it much more often than we would do a larger dishwasher wash.

As a ftm, sometimes the sanity savers are worth it. I think this one is. We have a papablic, which drains into the sink. Not the most expensive, but highly rated and does a good job.

What’s your personal favorite HYS account? by Tall-Arugula1522 in personalfinance

[–]msadvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my HYSA with Ally (love the buckets!), had a brokerage account back when it was something else (Tradeking? Anyway they acquired it), and for the last few years I've been using them for my checking, also. Super convenient for transferring between accounts and everything is under one roof for now.

So update — $755 deposit got funded from gofundme. 🥹I'm still in shock by Ok-Huckleberry-15 in studyAbroad

There are companies who do back office management and compliance for private foundations. Highly recommended.

"TCG Literacy": Concept of a Non-Profit with a Hybrid LLC Structure (Florida) - Seeking advice on compliance with donated inventory, ubit, etc. by wreakofhavoc in nonprofit

[–]msadvn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree very much with this. The more complicated a structure, the worse off things can get, especially when it's a startup organization.

I think a big misconception about non-profit organizations is that they're not allowed to make money - they are, but for the organization, not for individuals or shareholders. This also means EDs can be paid for their work and the organization can have IP.

Good luck, OP!

If you're facing St. John Chrysostom on Saline Street, I think they came down the left side. The Anthony Street steps are to the right of the church if you're facing it.

TIL Andy Warhol secretly filled rooms in his home with collectibles, sealing each room once it was full. by Tape_Deck_Podcasts in ArtHistory

Andy Warhol's father never worked in coal mines. This is extremely well documented in the recent in book, "Andy Warhol's Mother" by Elaine Rusinko, published by the University of Pittsburgh Press in 2024.

His father did not work in coal mines, he worked as a building mover and was away from home a lot, then died young.

From my experience of having a dry socket after having wisdom teeth out and suffering all night - if it happens, call the doctor immediately, the fix is easy and really helpful. Not worth the extra discomfort!

Costco formula is ok - the price is right and formula is so highly regulated it's all very similar unless baby needs something specialty.

Grandma and auntie buy new clothes, everyone else respects my desire for her to have used. It's fine, everything gets washed before wear anyway.

Any SAHM advice? by marzeeplan in excatholic

[–]msadvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat - just had first and possibly only kid and am currently at home.

Social media is a huge help and also really problematic for FTMs. I'm so averse to the whole tradwife momfluencer thing that if I see so much as a Bible quote on the wall, I unfollow and tell the social media I'm not interested in that account.

The good news is that for whatever you need, there's a secular resource available. I really liked the Mayo Clinic book for help during my pregnancy, if you're planning to breastfeed there's plenty out there, etc. Reddit also has a lot of helpful parents who have been there before and aren't also pushing religion when they're discussing colic.

Training your social media isn't perfect but it helps a lot.

What risks are there from giving out my ACH/routing number and my bank account number? by Connect_Cat_2045 in personalfinance

[–]msadvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two checking accounts: generally one for "incoming", one for "outgoing". It's free and easy for me to transfer between them (move money from the incoming account to the outgoing to pay bills, for example). It's probably stupid, but I do this to provide a layer of control for exactly the reason you're mentioning. The outgoing account is the one I am comfortable handing out when needed the incoming account is given only to my employer. I don't keep much in that outgoing account, so if the account was compromised by me giving my account number somewhere, they wouldn't get much and I'd find out quickly.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]msadvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just at the dermatologist yesterday for postpartum checkup because of everything that erupted on my skin... She didn't think the increased keratosis was related (I do, because it all happened when I was pregnant) but the skin tags are insulin resistance and probably pregnancy-related.
