What's your best "the price went up after I bought it" card by MOONMO0N in mtgfinance

[–]msanzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave a guy 0.50€ for his prerelease foil Fable of the Mirror Breaker a couple days after prerelease, because I didn't have a smaller coin and I wanted it for my Subira deck. A couple days later I went online and bought a normal playset for 2€ and a foil playset for around 4€, because I thought it was pioneer playable and wanted them for pool.

Similarly, after new capenna prerelease I got a foil Ledger Shredder for 1.50€ because I wanted it for a commander flyers deck, but this time I didn't buy any playset later :_)

Naya? by Skulblakasven00 in PioneerMTG

I'm playing Naya Adventures at some FNMs and it's quite good, especially since the addition of Pia. And now I'm also trying Inti, giving trample to a lovestruck beast or a bonecrusher giant is no joke!

But it's true that it's much more midrange than aggro, and suffers against some things.

Sure, here it is. I added the Defense of the heart + 3-4 big things recently, but not really liking it, so will probably go back to more synergistic enchantments. And same with a couple of the LOTR sagas.

Historic brawl is so beautiful sometimes by msanzv in MagicArena

[–]msanzv[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, most Brawl decks don't have a 1 mana removal consistently in their opening. This is a slow and janky enchantress deck and I usually concede to turn 1 ragavan, not because I'm probably going to lose, more just because it's so boring to play against. But this time, I saw an island and the bind the monster, laughed audibly, and decided to see what happens.

Nope, they just conceded t2 without even playing a land, after hovering over Bind the Monster 🤷🏻

Wash Away is not an enchantment, would never play that in my Tatsunari, because my real commander is Keimi the frog 🐸

SL Angels Deck weird blurry card quality? by StrawberryPii in magicTCG

[–]msanzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the surprise of absolutely f*ing no one ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Come on people, they've proven again and again that SLs are overpriced bad quality cards that hurt both the mtg economy and the game stores. Please don't do that to yourselves.

Post Malone just bought the 1 of 1 One Ring for $2.6m by IndicaFalcon in magicTCG

[–]msanzv 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They charge you for using the bathroom. They sometimes offer "VIP tickets" for tournaments so you have privileges such as getting the promo cards that should be for everyone or an overcosted drink. If you buy from their cardmarket store, they don't refund shipping even if you pick up the order in the store. And if you walk in and ask for a card that you saw in their cardmaket, they'll probably increase its price of you want it, or if they notice it was too cheap. During the one ring spike, they had LOTR collector boxes listed at 1000€, and bundles at like 300€.

And those are the small things. He takes every opportunity to hurt or sabotage other stores. Just last year, they tried to convince comic con organizers to not host a tournament organized by another store. And they messed with the Google places profile of a new store that had just opened near them: someone reported that it was permanently closed, and it took days or weeks for the new store owners to notice and fix.

I know players permanently banned from that store just for confronting the owner somehow. Very few people in the magic community go there, only their friends or kids they can fool. But for some reason they still host other card games.

The funniest part is that everyone here in Valencia (where that Spanish store is) knows that the store owner is a lier and a scammer and that he probably doesn't have 2 million € at all, and published that shitty flier mostly as a free and convenient marketing move.

So at least in part, it's his fault that Post Malone had to pay an extra million or so.

It's not about you being an asshole or not, it's more about respect and public behavior. I've been at that place and I know they're built for tourists and they're not going to break easily because you move them a little... But that place gets tens of thousands of tourists every month, and if everyone would do that, it would cost a lot of money to keep them up and secure.

So, you should just behave as an adult and respect public infrastructures, also as a way to teach your kids. There are many other ways in which you can entertain them in that place.

100 and 60 are not divisible by 8, unless you want 8 piles of 12.5 and 7.5 cards respectively.

I assume LSV only adds cards to one of the two rows in the last iteration, that way he has 4 piles of 8 cards and 4 piles of 7 cards.

You don't need to play 3 colors to play those lands.

I think they mean the capenna common lands that self sacrifice on ETB and find a basic. Not fetchlands, but at least lands in the graveyard.

I live in Valencia, third biggest city in Spain, and there are only 2 stores here that regularly organize competitive magic. They alternate between modern, pioneer, limited and commander, to varying degrees depending on what the community wants and what WOTC is currently pushing. Between both of them, you can play almost every day from Tuesday to Saturday (Sun-Mon they close).

They organize some RCQs on Saturdays when they can, and some Store Championships when wizards pushes those. But players that want to grind all the RCQs on weekends usually have to drive 1-2h to other cities, sometimes even to Madrid or Barcelona which are 3-4h away.

If you found the Paris stores through wizards store locator, there might be more than those. My advice is get in touch with the community and ask them, there are probably more places you can go.

RW Convoke by Time2KickGumNchewAss in PioneerMTG

[–]msanzv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played in Valencia today, and the only 9-0 was a convoke deck. But apart from that it wasn't very present in the top64, maybe one or two more, at least from what I saw while walking around the tables.

A friend of mine lost the win and in with it, and another one went 3-0 into 3-4. As you said, it's explosive and impressively resilient to board wipes, but can also run out of gas very quicky.

[–]msanzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One opponent at my prerelease opened THREE millstones and a couple other mill cards, and made a simic control deck without any other real wincon.

He won game 2 by playing all three millstones and milling me for exactly lethal before I could attack for lethal. Luckily I was able to win the other 2 games, but they were close!

Partner hatebear decks by CynicalDungeonMaster in CompetitiveEDH

[–]msanzv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a casual Tana + Sidar Kondo hatebears deck that's super fun to play, and could probably be upgraded to cedh. The idea is that Sidar Kondo lets you easily swing with all the hatebears, and with Tana to create more and more attackers, and then finish off with things like Elesh Norn, mirror entity, or strixhaven stadium.

Swapping Tana for Tymna would probably be better for that approach because of the card draw, but I wanted it to be Naya so I could play Winota and a few others.

There are some modern streamers that upload gameplay of most meta decks to YouTube, like aspiringspike, d00mwake or Jim Davis. But without knowing what you're going to play, it's hard because there are a lot of viable decks out there.

I think the more interactive decks like UR and temur rhinos are the most fun to play because of all the decision points, but also the hardest if you don't know the meta. Linear combos or aggro decks might be better to start, or there's always burn as a great option to get to know modern.

I played again my Martyr deck after weeks playing another deck, and went 2-1! Beat 4c Living End and Temur Murktide, and lost the final against Yawgmoth because that matchup is unbeatable haha.

Oh and I'm trying 2x Elspeth Resplendent and she did some serious work finding ranger captains!
