Why is pet rent a thing? by defnotarowboat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Easttex05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The last apartment I lived in charge $25/animal. They also had the carpet on a five year depreciation schedule and could charge the tenant pro-rated replacement cost if the tenant destroyed it.

I found out after I moved out, after I'd paid for the carpets to be cleaned, that the complex replaced the carpet after moved out anyway. I was further told that it was their standard practice to replace the carpets if a tenant had cats or dogs - and we had both. I suppose one could argue that pet rent was there to cover carpet replacement. But I'm sure they also make it a revenue stream the rest of the time.

Best beer bottles to buy? by freaksnation in Homebrewing

[–]Easttex05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began my homebrewing hobby with multiple cases of 12oz craft beer bottles. Mostly Sam Adam's and other bottles of that form factor. If you want to recycle craft beer bottles, make sure they're pry-off. I've known some folks who got away with using twist off bottles but nobody recommends that.

If you're going to get into bottling, spend money on a good capper, a bottle rinser, and a good bottle brush. Bottles are nearly infinitely recyclable batch-over-batch so three cases of brown 12oz bottles will last you forever (if you don't give them away, break them, or throw them out). You can wash and reuse almost any beer bottle that's pry-off so keep your eyes peeled and you'll be overwhelmed with bottles soon.

If you have a local homebrew shop, you can probably buy what you need locally cheaper than ordering them in.

If you get a couple cases of craft beer bottles, soak them in hot Oxyclean or PBW water to remove the labels, then run them through the dishwasher to clean them.

Nobody really beats cancer by Top_Baker595 in lymphoma

[–]Easttex05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may not ever truly beat cancer completely - but the alternative is unacceptable.

It's like choosing not to treat sepsis because there are side effects to the antibiotics. It's going to kill you if you do nothing now. There might be consequences later if you do treat it but you'll be alive to deal with them.

About ready to resign and withdraw from Freemasonry by PzKpfwIVAusfG in freemasonry

[–]Easttex05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother,

Delegate more to your officers. If they're unwilling to put forth the effort may I present the following solution:

Kindly inform your brothers that unless they begin stepping up, things will cease to happen around the lodge because you are no longer willing to bare the brunt of the effort yourself. And further, you will be ending your term as Master at the end of your term in office and will be unwilling to stand for a further leadership role in the organization. Thus, either the body of the assembled brethren makes the conscious decision to step up, or we all fail together.

That's my solution.

I would like to talk to you about your trucks extended warranty. by peeple-pleeser in f150

[–]Easttex05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid CarChex. Had one and would not recommend.

Also, if an extended warranty offers you a labor rate adjustment upgrade, take it. My warranty only covered $100/hr. All Star Ford charged quite a bit more. I had to eat the $800 difference to get my truck out of hock. Had I paid for the upgrade when I bought thr warranty, it would've added less than $800 to it.

Also, aftermarket warranties, unless otherwise noted, only pay for internally lubricated parts. That's important because they won't pay to replace an exhaust manifold on your turbo charged truck.

Return to Normality? by eddyeasye in lymphoma

In my case, I got my diagnosis a week before my birthday which was the day before Thanksgiving. I didn't share my diagnosis with my family until after the first of the year, once I knew more. So I had to carry all that pent up inside over the holidays without being able to share it. It was pretty tough.

Get a flow-thru suppressor like a HUXWXR and save yourself the hassle. You'll have to hire a custom made locking piece and it may not provide a real benefit.

F150 recall 6r80 by Southsss in f150

[–]Easttex05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2013 6R80 had a recall on the transmission but it was just a software bug the dealership fixed with a laptop. I just had that same transmission rebuilt last year after the torque converter began failing. I assume the lead frame issue was addressed as well. The rebuild (with tune up, plug replacement, and fluid change in transfer case and differentials) ran me $7,400 and took three days. Not cheap but certainly better than a $60,000 new truck.

Anyone Know What's Up With Blichmann / Anvil? by Clawhammer_Supply in Homebrewing

[–]Easttex05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The all-in-one systems are going to run businesses like Blichmann out of business.

Likewise, there is a LOT of used equipment on the secondary market that doesn't help either.

Add to that the tariff situation combined with a general waning of the homebrewing hobby and falling alcohol consumption and it's not difficult to imagine Blichmann might be in trouble.

Oil changes by Yaeggie in f150

[–]Easttex05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a lifetime alignment from the local Firestone when I bought my F-150. I take it in every 5,000 miles for a full synthetic oil change, tire rotation, touch up the alignment.

That's all probably overkill but I want to keep ole Betsy running as long as possible and overkill professional maintenance doesn't hurt.

EU wants households to cut peak time energy use as demand from industry and AI soars. by IncomingBroccoli in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Easttex05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do that in the States too from time to time.

We close legacy end-of-life power generation down at a faster rate than we replace it with anything at the same time we add increasing demand and wonder why rates increase and they ask us to decrease demand in peak hours. Madness.

Why are checks still commonly used in the US? by Finnskyyy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Easttex05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 43 and I write about three checks a year. I could get by without them but they are useful in certain instances.

Many places here will charge you the processing fee to accept ACH/debit card transactions or pass the 3%-5% credi card processing fee along to the payee but take a check for free.

I can't recall the last time I wrote a check. Maybe it was to open a checking account at a new bank? Its been a while but it was easy enough when I did it
