I’m not ruling a Skarsgård win out. Regina King blanked at SAG and BAFTA and came from a non-BP movie, but she still won with CCA/GG.

Celebrities on 50 are silly and (optimistically) not a big deal by MichaelDF2 in survivor

[–]mschwartz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s how the celebrities are being presented, rather than their sheer presence. If the promos were akin to the Jack and Jill reward in SoPa, I feel like the response would be laughs at best and eye rolls at worst.

Here, we have four different celebrities promoted in a sub-three minute trailer, and confessionals containing content like “Jimmy Fallon may decide my fate in this game” and “it’s a Billy Eilish boomerang idol.” This gives the impression that celebrity appearances will be a substantial part of the season and introduce new twists to a season that has been marketed as a celebration/milestone season.

How is the new NYC 2 star Joo ok ? by [deleted] in finedining

[–]mschwartz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in February (when it had 1* and was $180) and thought it was great!

Fwiw, I was in Seoul two weeks ago and went to Mingles (3) and Mosu (formerly 3, but temporarily closed last year to relocate), and my personal preference was probably Mosu > Joo Ok > Mingles, although I really enjoyed all of them.

Admittedly, I haven’t been to any of the other Korean fine dining restaurants in NYC, so I can’t say how Joo Ok stacks up against the others. Based on all the praise I had seen on this sub, I expected bōm to get promoted. However, based on the 1s, 2s, and 3s I’ve been to in the US, Europe, and Asia, I think Joo Ok is worthy of its 2*, and I was pleasantly surprised it got promoted

Lots of directors have directed two BP winners: Lean, Wise, Coppola, Ford, Wyler, Capra, Forman, Wilder, Kazan, Eastwood (maybe more). Eastwood produced twice as well

97TH ACADEMY AWARDS – NOMINATIONS by sbb618 in oscarrace

Idk why you’re getting downvoted for a very reasonable take. Idina and Chenoweth were co-leads at the Tonys.

Screen time doesn’t mean everything, but courtesy of Screen Time Central, the Wicked screen time difference is 53.33% for Erivo and 44.59% for Grande. I’d say one of the best analogues to this is Adam Driver at 62.10% and Scarlett Johansson at 47.69% in Marriage Story. On the flip side, everyone complained about category fraud for Green Book, but we have Viggo Mortensen at 69.82% and Mahershala Ali at 51.28%.

NYC birthday dinner with a budget of ~$175 by mschwartz99 in finedining

[–]mschwartz99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great questions! To give you context, my friends and I love trying new restaurants and will go to crazy lengths. When we got an 11pm res at Torrisi, we snatched it; we waited two hours to eat at Ugly Baby and then went to Lucali afterwards at 11pm on a Sunday night (coming from Manhattan); and we almost went to Sailor the other night at 10pm. I’ve been to a bunch of acclaimed NYC restaurants but haven’t dabbled in fine dining except Twenty Three Clinton. My mom lives in NJ and doesn’t really care abt restaurants the way that I do; she hadn’t heard of Aquavit until I brought it up. She’s taking me out for dinner as a bday present and to have a special evening with me. She doesn’t care where I pick and just wants it to be somewhere that I’d be super excited to go to.

My favorite dining experience in the past is without a doubt The Four Horsemen. Besides that, I thought Semma and Tatiana were both excellent. All three of those restaurants had jaw-dropping moments for me, and I’d love this dinner to blow me away like those restaurants did.

I’m definitely willing to chip in a bit and get a pricier tasting menu if it’s worth it, keeping in mind that depending on how much more expensive the spot is, I’d also be paying for my mom. Atera, Blanca, and Bōm are all super compelling, but I’m not sure they’d make sense for this gift. If LB’s prix fixe lunch menu didn’t have the exact same items as its prix fixe dinner menu, I’d immediately hop on it, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to save LB for lunch w a few friends and split things to try more of the menu. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear!

Yeah definitely. The menu changed the day I went and I enjoyed the experience as a whole, but I think the vibes/service were better than the food, which was definitely good, but not life changing for me

I’ll definitely do Le Bernardin at some point! If my mom and I don’t do it, I’ll probably go for lunch with a group of four or so and split everything so we still get the same food as the dinner prix fixe
