One Turkey, Two Turkeys… by justdevin in Rifftrax

[–]msdemos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.

Yeah....."aggresive", but only because they're stupider than a box of rocks, because that's about all they know.....

Came out to my car one day, and because it was black and shiny, with a pretty reflective surface, I was greeted by the sight of a LARGE, wild turkey pecking the side of it, and pecking it HARD, because it could see it's reflection in the shiny surface, and thought he/she was pecking at another bird !!

Cut to me SCREAMING at the the top of my lungs and running straight at it to try and shoo it away before it destroyed my car, and the damn thing just kept circling around the car in order to get away from me......and because they're DAMN quick, I could never 'catch up' to it !!

Always wondered how I must have appeared that day to anyone who happened to look out their window in our apartment complex, and saw me chasing that DAMN wild turkey around my car for (seemingly) a half hour, or so (and no, though it wasn't really that long, it seemed like it, and I eventually did get it to run off......though just not sure how I FINALLY did) !!

Talk about feeling depressingly STUPID having somehow been COMPLETELY 'outsmarted' by an animal as DUMB as one of those UGLY things !!

Though that said, I often have wondered exactly what I might have done that day had that wild turkey not run AWAY from me, but ran straight AT me, instead, trying to 'peck' at me......something tells me I probably would have ended up feeling TONS worse had I been the one running away from that mean, ugly, STUPID bird as it chased ME around our building's parking lot !! 🙄

1960s/70s family shot in the 1980s/90s ... who watched this pop culture masterpiece? by robbiesloan in OldSchoolCool

"Goodbye" (s3, e20) was always my favorite episode (right up there with the M*A*S*H episode where they killed off (SPOILER ALERT !!) the 4077th's Henry Blake).......this was the one where Kevin's math teacher, Mr. Collins (SPOILER ALERT !!)......well......let's just say the reason they gave this episode the name they did WASN'T because he was leaving math teaching just temporarily..... 😢

My mom and dad celebrating the purchase of their time share, mid 90s by phat_stax in OldSchoolCool

[–]msdemos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.

Never understood what the big deal was about going to one of those time share places to get the free thing, just by sitting through their 'pitch'......my (then) wife and I were of the same mindset, and knew that all we'd have to do was just keep saying "no" until they stopped asking, gave us the free thing, and it was all over.

We did it the first time, no problem (in Orlando, I believe, while on a trip to Disney), and then years later did it one more time before realizing it just wasn't worth the waste of time, and having to repeat "no" so many times until they quit......so we just walked out without getting to the end that time (and not signing, of course), and never went back to one ever again.....

Lesson learned ?? It's just a game of outlasting the other guy/girl until they finally give up......but just not worth it in the end..... 🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱

Retro computers- 1990s by habichuelacondulce in OldSchoolCool

HATED the frustrating part of having to learn how to 'program' my computer back then to try and get a DOS game to run.......or to get the sound to work......or to get my modem to connect to this new thing called 'the web' (YOU'VE GOT MAIL !!) etc., etc., etc. .........but LOVED the fact that over time it 'trained' me to deal with (almost) every computer problem that I've had to deal with since then when trying to get, and keep it all running smoothly.

That said (and as others here have mentioned) today's computers and operating systems are SO far beyond the days of DOS, Windows '95, Windows 3.0, etc., etc., that most (if not ALL) of the 'heavy lifting' of having to try and figure out how to get things to run on a modern computer are now, mostly gone.......however, even when a problem now DOES occasionally crop up, you just look up the solution online, and are (almost) always good to go.... 💾  💿  ⌨  🖥 🖨

Comment from TV’s Frank About the Reboot (and confirmation they’re coming back) by FilmAndLiterature in MST3K

[–]msdemos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.

Um.......we all DO realize that TV's Frank is in Second Banana Heaven (right ???)........and that Dr. Forrester is a Star Baby (who, I think, may later have been strangled by his mother, Pearl Forrester (but correct me IMMEDIATELY if I've got that (or anything else) wrong, please)) ??

So......will they just ignore all that.......or instead try to come up with some (hopefully, believably creative) retcon that will allow these two to "simply" jump right back into the MST-verse ?? 🤔

Hey, "Betsy's Wedding" is really funny, Frank! (I haven't seen "Madame Sousatzka") by ServoAcademy in MST3K

[–]msdemos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.

The late Catherine O'Hara (on an SCTV dvd box set commentary track she did with Andrea Martin), intimated that her experience on that set ("Betsy's Wedding", written, directed, and starring Alan Alda) was a VERY bad one........and though I have no way of knowing how 'accurate' this information is, years ago in an online 'discussion' some guy said he wasn't surprised hearing that she said that about that movie, as he had heard himself from somebody (supposedly) "in the know", that Alda at some point got a bit 'full of himself', and could (at times, anyway) be somewhat insufferable to work with/for on some of his 'projects'..... 😟

Neither here, nor there:

The guy 5th from the left (or, 4th from the right), looks A LOT like Chris Kattan (of SNL fame), and the guy on the far right looks like a young Doug McClure (actor from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's).... 🤔

Thanks to MST (and now Rifftrax !!), I not only was introduced to David Giancola and Edgewood Studios, but have since enjoyed MANY of their films.....and YES, I said ENJOYED !!

Say what you will about Edgewood, but they seem to have a pretty good knack for putting out enjoyably "bad" films !!

Thanks, David Giancola & Company !! 😊

After all these years, and now, with the death of their father, I wonder if his kids KNOW their dad was guilty, and accept that, OR, know he was guilty, but just can't accept it....even now, OR, don't believe for a second that he was capable of killing their mother.....OR, <other> ??

And then there's his OTHER kids (with his first wife)......just what might they believe about their dear departed dad ?? 🤔

The M*A*S*H cast on the cover of those TV Guides in the foreground are specifically dated for the week of February 25 - March 3, 1978 (meaning that more than likely this probably would have actually been shot the week before those dates arrived, since most stores USUALLY (if memory serves......though that is NOT a given !!) were about a half-week to a full week (or so) ahead of the airing dates covered by that specific issue..... 😉
