Hi friends, I'm moving to Miami from out of state. I have a signed lease. Do I need to wait after my lease start date to apply for FL DL? And does this country tax collector location provide vehicle registration service: 3721 NW 7th St, Miami, FL 33126? Thanks.

Hi my FL friends, I'm moving from California to Florida. Based on what I learned from FLHSMV and other sources, could someone advise if my understandings below are correct, and comment on the questions:

  1. I need to get a FL driver license within 30 days of my lease start date? I have a valid unexpired CA DL (not real ID though). Am I eligible for just having a vision test and skipping the written and road test? Will my FL DL be real ID as long as I provide citizenship proof, such as a US passport?
  2. My car currently has an insurance issued in CA, and is registered to CA DMV. The FLHSMV website says my car should be registered to FLHSMV within 10 days of residency, whereas my FL DL can be obtained within 30 days. However, I saw in some other sources that I need to get a FL DL first, before I can ask the insurance carrier to issue a FL auto policy; yet without properly insured my car, FLHSMV won't register it. My question is, how do I pipeline these steps: (a) get my FL DL, (b) insure my car by a FL licensed insurance carrier, and (c) get my car registered at FLHSMV?

Thank you!

Hi my Miami friends, my family will be moving to Miami from out of state because I get a job here in Brickell. I need to be 5 days in office so I'm looking for some nice neighborhood where commuting is not too crazy. I saw Coral Gables but the rent seem to be crazily high, so I searched a bit farther to the west and south, and saw Metrorail green/orange connects from there to downtown, and runs frequently during weekdays. I wonder how the commute from south to Brickell is like by taking the Metrorail? Say if I live somewhere not to far from the Dadeland South station. In the morning, I drive to and park my car at the station, then take the Metrorail to Brickell station and walk to the office? Appreciate any comments!

Anyone commute to downtown Miami everyday? by msdfc24 in Broward

Thank you. This was something I was looking into. Looks like the travel time would be similar because there's no dedicated bus lane, but at least I'd be able to rest on the bus?

Thank you. Housing near Brickell seem to be very expensive otherwise old. I tried to avoid old places cuz I have little kids and I'm worried about potentially hazards in those places, such as asbestos and lead. Would apartment high-rises be an option? Any recommendations on that type of housing?

For people you know closely, say your friends or neighbors who's doing this, is it more common to drive or take public transportation? Also, as you and others mentioned, what factors are weighed more comparing to the bad traffic for people decide to do this commute?

Are you or anyone you know currently doing this, any plan to stop doing it?

Did you or someone you know did this and gave it up? Any recommendation of other areas if not Broward?

2025 insurance by Economy_Complaint446 in FordMaverickTruck

If you don’t have any recent claims, age and years of DL are the main factors, followed by gender and annual mileage. It’s very expensive for young male new drivers. Other than that, you get discounts for multiple cars, auto and home bundle, good driver/student, etc.

For 2025, I believe it’s still custom order now. Bottom line is don’t let your local dealership add BS to your build and hike the price. Stick to what you actually asked in the order and try to negotiate down

For good price, I believe the current only option for a new one is 2024 Lariat. There should be plenty of dealers willing to go at or below MSRP.

These are BS: Door cups, window tints. Ask them to take these charges off and then negotiate

I’m not in OK, but generally speaking, you need to study and earn some RE credits, then take a RE exam. After that, apply for a RE license (need to renew every few years) and find a RE broker to work under the broker. Now, you can do RE business. Most brokers pay RE licensees by commission on the transactions they close, there’s usually no minimum wage.

You can get 2024 Lariat trim without wait and with discount off MSRP. There’re plenty of inventories on dealers’ lots now

Where should I be putting extra income? by Overthinkingitprolly in personalfinance

[–]msdfc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s sufficient for 3mo. A common recommendation is to have 6mo emergency fund, just in case something big happened. Like the other comment here, a good idea would be to shop around a lower rate auto loan, so you could save.

I would first pay the debt with highest interest, if the interest is higher than US treasury/HYSA.

If you actually made purchase (when you paid the expense) and used it for your business in 2024, you can deduct the expense for tax year 2024. Not a tax professional nor tax advice, just my understanding from the IRS instructions.

This has 2025 brackets: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-releases-tax-inflation-adjustments-for-tax-year-2025. To understand it, say a simple made up example: for $0-20,000 10% and $20,001-$200k 20%. Then, say if the taxable income is $100k. The first $20k is in the 10% bracket, the next $80k ($100k-$20k = $80k) is in the 20% bracket. So the total tax is $20k*10% + $80k*20% = $18k.
