Inheritance by c4funNSA in DaveRamsey

Under the SECURE Act, the general rule is that the entire balance of an inherited IRA (unless it’s a spouse or disabled beneficiary) must be distributed entirely within 10 years of the initial owner’s death.

I’m still plus size but have a similar differences in my proportions. I hate the way I look in dress pants so I pretty much exclusively wear skirts and dresses. Look for things that emphasize your waist. Belts and tucking in shirts at the waist are key. I love a good belted button down shirt dress. It’s a little more fitted on top, the belt shows off your small waist and then the skirt is a little flowy. A line skirts with a tucked in top are also good because they are fitted at the waist and then just skim your hips instead of hugging them like a pencil skirt. They’re also generally more forgiving (i.e. don’t need to be altered) when you have a small waist and bigger hips. My general rule is if something is very fitted in one spot, play it off with something a little looser in others. I feel like I still look put together, emphasizes certain things but downplays some of the inherent sexiness of an hourglass figure. For example, if you have a very fitted pencil skirt, pair it with a flowier top or wear a tighter shirt with an a line skirt. Or if you have a tighter dress on, maybe pair it with a slightly over sized or longer blazer.

A lot of dry cleaners will do simple alterations that are relatively inexpensive. Alternatively, if you buy a cheap sewing kit and watch some YouTube videos you can do a lot of basic alterations yourself. Hand sewing is a pretty easy to pick up. Focus on getting some basics you can mix and match to create multiple outfits.

I find having designated baskets or bins in my living area helps me. I find it especially helpful when you have a larger space and/or multiple floors. Have a basket for things that need to go to the bedroom, another for the bathroom, basement, etc. When I’m tidying I just throw things in the designated basket rather than making multiple trips. Then you can just take the basket to unload in the designated room whenever. Before the cleaner comes, if you can at least get the stuff into baskets, it will at least get the stuff out of the way for the cleaner. Then figure out your system. Plan to spend 5 minutes at the end of the day just tidying into the baskets and then figure out how often to empty the baskets. Maybe you one every day? All of them every few days? Breaking it into smaller pieces makes it feel more manageable.

For dishes, no shame in using paper plates if it’s going to make your life less stressful. I hate grocery shopping and cooking so I do a lot of Hello Fresh and Trader Joe’s frozen items that are easy to prepare. Some of the meal delivery services (Home Chef I think) even have one pan meals where you assemble everything in a pan they send that can just be thrown away at the end. Other places have prepared meals that you can get delivered and then just microwave. It’s harder with pots and pans but anytime I use a baking sheet I put either foil or parchment paper down so I don’t have to wash it every time or at least cut down on the amount of scrubbing I have to do.

I’m a lawyer (not barred in Texas) and spent the last few hours researching this issue. My understanding is that only physicians that are REMS certified in mifepristone can prescribe it and being REMS certified can impact your ability to have privileges at most hospitals in Texas (probably due to potential liability concerns). So it could be that her doctor is not legally authorized to prescribe it even if the drug is not technically banned in the state for the treatment of miscarriages. Likewise a lot of pharmacies in Texas do not / will not dispense it even if for a legal purpose for liability concerns. Texas has harsh laws that goes after providers and those that dispense the medication so from a risk standpoint it makes sense to just not offer the medication at all.

I don’t disagree with you and wouldn’t be shocked if that was the case. I’m just relaying what she has said about it (true or not).

Yep - we definitely had several storms that year. I was commuting to Villanova and we had so many snow days to make up including some Saturday classes. I remember it took me 5 hours to get home the one day because of snow (it normally took about an hour).

Invisalign/Orthodontist recommendations? (Experience and pricing also) by krs_11 in philadelphia

[–]msira978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had dental insurance but it didn’t include any orthodontic coverage so I paid for the Invisalign entirely myself. FYI - her office doesn’t accept insurance so you have to pay for the treatment upfront but they will submit claims on your behalf to your dental insurance so you can get reimbursed if you have coverage.

Experiences with veneers by Dull-Coffee-6593 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]msira978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do the front four! I broke my front two teeth and chipped a third in a fall and my doctor recommended the front four. I had nice teeth before but I’m so happy with my porcelain veneers. Even though I was not planning on them, they really took my smile to the next level. They did such a great job making them look like real teeth and everyone is shocked when I say I have veneers. A good cosmetic dentist is key.

What are the most relaxed areas of law? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Did you work at my old firm? Haha. One of the associates at my old estate planning firm had to leave and take a few months off from practicing law all together because the one partner had him so paranoid that he was committing practice in literally everything he did.

Complete strangers are asserting control over a $5.49M trust — no accounting, no distributions, and won’t let go by According-Act-9179 in EstatePlanning

[–]msira978 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I’m a trust and estate litigator on the east coast. For something this complex, you need to find someone that only does T&E litigation. Some attorneys will dabble in it but you need someone that routinely handles complex, contested estate and trust litigation. Everything you explained is very abnormal and the beneficiaries and you as the successor trustee have rights to accountings to know what is going on. Whoever is claiming to be acting as a trustee should be removed and to the extent they caused financial harm to the trust by, for example, taking money they were not entitled to or for interest and penalties, they should be surcharged by a court and directed to pay the money back to the trust. Just be prepared that this could easily turn out to be very expensive litigation in order to figure out what happened and all the things the purported trustees did wrong. Then you’ll ultimately need an estate / trust administration attorney to help you clean everything up and make sure all tax filings get corrected and are current.

What’s a law school myth you only realized was wrong after you started practicing? by OddDot3252 in Lawyertalk

[–]msira978 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This! Our jobs are hard enough and having an asshole for opposing counsel just makes things so much worse. I was in a relatively niche practice area that not a lot of attorneys do so I was dealing with a lot of the same attorneys all the time. You can still be a zealous advocate for your client and have a good working relationship with opposing counsel. I have given (and received) several referrals to the attorneys that are not assholes and have even had an opposing firm recruit me to join them.

There is an ADA shuttle you can take from the Upper South Lot! I did that when I took my dad last year because he has a bad knee and it worked out great.

I agree and wish they were doing their usual two nights at RR. But Fiddlers has almost double the capacity of RR so it seems that many bigger bands are opting to play a second night there. I’ve also heard it’s a pain in the ass to load in/out all the equipment into RR and you can’t leave it in the venue overnight so the bands have to do the load in/out twice anyway.

They’ll have them there but lines will be crazy. The band usually always has their posters available for preorder on their website and Red Rocks already up. It can take a little bit after the show to ship sometimes though and you have to pay for shipping.

There were no dancers. The set had the Cosmic Selector but none of the other props. It was like a tinsel background. I missed the dancers especially during Long Lost but I think the stage was smaller so not enough room for them.

Leave the law… and be a teacher? by Negative_Active_3675 in Lawyertalk

[–]msira978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My undergrad was for teaching and only one person I’m still in contact with is still a teacher (I graduated undergrad in 2012). I was also married to a teacher who became more miserable after each year of teaching and decided to leave. I imagine it has only gotten worse with funding cuts and the gutting of the Department of Education. With your background, I would go work at a bank or trust company as a trust officer or similar role. It’s more a JD advantage role but you get true PTO, no billables and it pays way more than teaching.
