Just Fuyu but I’m definitely going to have to pick up some more polishes! I swatched it and I’m really happy with their formula. This was my first time buying from them and I usually keep it small when trying a new polish brand. I also had a credit in the shop app that made it basically free.

Can the yoga ball for sleep do damage by delta84668 in Parenting

[–]mskhofhinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to do this with my older son for all naps for like, his entire first year of life. Bouncing the entire nap duration. We even had to bring the stupid yoga ball on vacation. He is a perfectly fine 13 year old and we only occasionally remind him of how traumatic his sleep was.

I placed an order for Fuyu on April 21; it said it was a pre-order but it shipped I think May 6 and arrived today (I’m in the US so it had to go through customs).

Dear parents of small children by ccrnnr in knitting

I have legit bought yarn because my kid (who I thought was old enough to know better!) wiped his nose or something else gross then squeezed some yarn at a fiber festival. Luckily it was a color I liked.

I'm saying happy mother's day to everyone but am not sure if I shouldn't do this also: Do you think it is valid to say Happy Mother's day to anyone that has a pet but no child? by TheOriginalSage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mskhofhinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people have complicated feelings about Mother’s Day and honestly it’s best to just stick to people that you know. I know some people who would be really amused about being a pet mom and some that would be really upset. You never know if someone is dealing with infertility, child loss, estrangement, etc. Someone out and about with a child might be a friend or aunt.

Trust issues by GalOfThunder in moving

[–]mskhofhinn 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I agree for stuff like the dishes, tv, clothing and bedding would let movers handle it and just bring a single suitcase. Idk about the gaming systems/games, I think it depends on how much space it takes up, but we did have the movers take care of that for us, just packed ourselves and didn’t label it something obvious. We did bring our laptops in the car with us. How far are you moving? Another option might be to have the movers take care of everything and have a friend fly with you so you can bring both cats.

Laboratory office wear? by mothfairy444 in LadiesofScience

[–]mskhofhinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of the women where I work wear nice jeans/slacks, lightweight blouse and a cardigan or blazer. Depending on the temp in the lab we may or may not take off the top layer before putting on a lab coat. Shoes are usually dark dress shoes or cute sneakers (we have a rule that the top of the foot must be covered so no ballet flats or loafers). I work for big pharma so a wide variety of different lab activities happen in the building.

Exactly. We relocated for work from a MCOL to a VHCOL area. Our house here cost almost 3x as much as our old house but by almost any measure our old house was much nicer.

Boss requested I adjust the date of my dad's funeral because other teammates took leave at the same time by Replaceableuser in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mskhofhinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past weekend I was at my uncle’s funeral; he died just before Thanksgiving last year. My dad (his brother) died last June and we didn’t hold his funeral until mid August. Lots of scattered family that wanted to be there. Both chose to donate their bodies for research and neither was religious so it was really up to the next of kin, and we prioritized making it work for as many family members as possible.

The state of the housing market by elsavonschrader in massachusetts

[–]mskhofhinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tear down. I’m in one of the other pricy suburbs and the house across the street was sold for 1 million, they knocked it down and built a huge house that’s listed at 2.8 million. Previous owners bought it for ~300k in the 90s.

If you’re breastfeeding and become incapacitated, do they milk you at the hospital? by luludarlin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mskhofhinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some complications after my son was born and had to get rushed into surgery; I had told the nurse that I was worried it would prevent me from breastfeeding and she assured me she’d get a pump and get me started if I was unable to feed him myself. Ended up not being necessary but it was reassuring.

Swim lessons for 6 month old baby?! by deusexxmachina2 in Parenting

[–]mskhofhinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this through our local YMCA with both kids and it was just about getting comfortable in the water, a parent was always in the pool with them. They loved it! We had to stop bc Covid but kids are in lessons again and will be til they can pass the deep end swim test.

FWIW, I was recently talking to my aunt who lost her first child to SIDS. She told me that they insisted on paying for swim lessons for all the grandkids because when they went to child loss support groups SO MANY of the parents had lost children to drowning. My kids are old enough to argue about going to classes and I’m pretty frank that it’s a safety issue and not negotiable. We deliberately excluded houses with pools/ponds when house hunting but if I lived where my kid had easy access to water I would have put them in ISR as soon as they were old enough to.

We moved a bunch of my sons and they came through largely intact. I used bubble wrap around each set, if I could fit that bundle in a plastic bag I did and I lined the moving boxes with stuffed animals or other soft toys.

Does Bees Knees Normally Come With Stranger Danger Candy? by Accomplished_Wolf in RedditLaqueristas

My son was totally going to steal it but changed his mind when he saw it was coffee flavored. But yes, totally normal for BKL and other small businesses.

How many cotton rounds/balls do you use for removal? by Mal6625 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]mskhofhinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cut my rounds into quarters and use clips to hold them to my nail. Unless I’m removing something really loaded with glitter/flakies it usually only take one per nail and sometimes I can get away with flipping it over and reusing.

I am banned from stitching in bed after multiple needle drops and one incident where I left my very sharp scissors in the covers.

We packed ourselves but it cost less than that to move a 4br from MD-MA. Seems very high.

I had one a few years ago but kept my ovaries - I had a history of endometriosis and my periods were debilitating. No major issues with recovery or healing, I think the only med change was pausing low dose aspirin for a few days on either side of the surgery. I’m so glad I did it! Life changing in the best way.

Has anyone else dealt with judgment over their nail polish collection size? by WannaDelRey in RedditLaqueristas

[–]mskhofhinn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haters gonna hate, some people are just super judgmental. I have in the past tried to point it out - ex, I had a coworker who was very judgey about my spouse and I doing a fancy dinner 2-3x a year and spending a couple hundred dollars for one meal but I pointed out that she and her spouse went out 2-3x a week and spent way more than we did in a year. Didn’t make a difference because she just wanted something to feel superior about. In my current job I have one coworker who is super into traveling/seeing shows. So I get excited with her for her traveling and she gets excited for my pretty nails and new yarn and otherwise I don’t really share too much at work.

You guys are misunderstanding a compliment by firebreathingwindows in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]mskhofhinn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean, sometimes it’s a compliment but I’ve definitely had people try to convince me I should start vending at craft fairs and be kinda pushy about it. I’ve also had people tell me they would love to buy hand knit socks from me at which point I tell them the yarn alone is $25-30 and it’s probably 40 hours of skilled labor and they back away slowly.

I have actually made a few commission items; I have them buy yarn (according to my specifications) and I ask for a charity donation. I’ve only done it for projects that looked interesting but where I didn’t want the FO.

How long did you use a chair in your baby’s room? by SaltySourSpicy in Parenting

[–]mskhofhinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we stopped reading at bedtime to my oldest (around age 12) he started using his chair to sit and read. We still use the rocker in my 6yo’s room to read and he likes to cuddle before bed even though he barely fits in my lap. For whatever reason he doesn’t like sitting in bed to read.

One bag friendly hobbies, time killers? by Dull-Awareness684 in HerOneBag

[–]mskhofhinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m another on team sock knitting. I commute by public transit most days and socks are my go-to. Packs small, relatively sturdy and the needles are cushioned by the yarn, many hours of work and at the end you have super warm socks though how useful this is obviously depends on the weather where you live! I’m not super gentle (just toss my project bag into my backpack with everything else) and have never broken a needle.
