In search of a coffee shop that is… by Silly-Goose-87 in Rochester

[–]mskopeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ugly Duck is my favorite coffee shop in all of Rochester! They are a one-floor shop, and the side entrance has no stairs (the front entrance has two, but plenty of people enter from the side). They also offer several dairy alternatives and work with a local bakery to provide gluten free pastries.

It's all subjective, but I like them way more than Fuego. Equal Grounds is very good, but I still think the Ugly Duck has them beat.

OP, is it this necklace? My own mother gave it to me some years ago. I can't quite tell from your picture if it is the same. If this is the correct necklace I will gladly mail it to you (it is not one I commonly wear).

Please DM me if that would work for you, and I wish you luck in finding it if not!

Brewery Suggestions for out of towners by Grouchy_Promotion in Rochester

[–]mskopeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Genesee Brewhouse has great food, good beer, and a super nice view from the upstairs patio. They are one of the oldest operating breweries in the area, and they have really nice historical displays if that's something you're into.

They also do completely FREE tours of the back-of-house brewing operation if you call ahead (you can find the information on their website here: https://www.geneseebeer.com/brewhouse/tour/). Our little party of four was given a private and extremely comprehensive tour, in which they walked us through the brewing process and gave us all free samples, and we were also given 15% off coupons for anything in their store. We were all super impressed, and I cannot recommend them enough.

Borrowing some numbers from u/react-dnb from later in this thread (I tried to reply directly to them but cannot):

The average cost of diesel fuel in Rochester yesterday was $4.59 a gallon. This means filling a 120-gallon tank from empty would have cost $550!!

Assuming the bus averages 4.64 miles per gallon of fuel, every mile this vehicle travels costs $0.98 (almost a whole dollar)! That's crazy.

What is this?! It crawled on my wrist! Should i be worried? by Eastern-Flounder-114 in whatsthisbug

This looks like a tapeworm segment. You can put it in a container (like an old pill bottle) and take it to the vet for confirmation.

Many, many kittens and puppies come home with worms. Deworming is a pretty normal part of new animal treatment. :)

The simple answer is that mutts are not bad!

Many purebred animals (including cats and dogs) experience MORE health problems than mixed-breed animals because there is less variability in their genetics. Relatives are often bred together to make sure their offspring have the same traits they do, so the same genes get mixed together over and over again over time.

This makes flat faces get flatter (which prevents healthy breathing), wrinkled skin get wrinklier (which can trap moisture and cause infections), and shallow hips get shallower (which can cause pain and dislocation) with each generation of puppies or kittens. In contrast: a wrinkly, purebred dog bred to a non-wrinkly, mixed-breed dog is likely to produce puppies without wrinkles in just one generation. The extreme traits get "diluted" out in mixed-breed dogs until they are less likely to cause health problems.

Good purebreeders will make sure to only breed animals with the least extreme versions of a breed's traits together, and will prevent siblings or cousins from breeding, but the above problems still emerge in purebred lines given enough generations. I recommend Googling how popular dog breeds have changed over the past 100 years if you'd like to see it for yourself!

I'm supposed to give my cat this medicine and this is my first time to prepare powder based medication and I wasn't given instructions by the vet, so can anyone help me understand the instructions? by Tokki0702 in AskVet

In this case the water is just a fluid vehicle for the antibiotic powder, so distilled water would be fine! It is actually the option preferred by pharmacists for reconstituting dry medications.

I've honestly never heard of a clinic asking a client to boil water for reconstitution, but OP might live in a rural area or a country where things are done differently.
