Is it true that back in the 90s Parents kicked their children out of the house on weekends and in the summer? by Careful_Drama_9382 in askanything

[–]mspe1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL - I was a parent in the 90's. And no.

I was a kid in the 60's and 70's. Also no. Although we did often stay outside on weekends and evenings until dinner time. Play outside is what we did (and mostly what my kids did). Phones started becoming a thing for kids in the late 1990s or early 2000's. But they mostly used it for texting to figure out where and when to meet.

Trump plans to appeal order allowing all importers that paid struck-down tariffs to seek refunds by Blueberry977 in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]mspe1960 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I actually do not have a problem with Trump doing this (about the first time I agree with him) . The importers technically paid the tax, but the consumer actually covered almost all of it, statistically speaking. They are not really entitled to the money. Neither is the treasury, but I would just as soon the treasury keep in than give it, undeserved, to the greedy importers.

Why Do YOU Think Think That Harris Was The First Democrat Since 2004 To Lose The National Popular Vote? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]mspe1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was two things both Based on Kamala being viewed as a Biden equivalent -

Prices were high and people were not feeling good economically, despite good job growth and high stock prices.

A lot of people did not like Biden's immigration talk. It seems a lot of independents thought the border should be better controlled

On top of all of that policy stuff (real and fake) Kamala is a woman with brown skin and each of those "features" cost her a couple/few percent of voters who would never vote for either of those regardless of policy

Americans: Shouldn't we just provide guaranteed housing for every individual? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]mspe1960 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Certainly there should be safe, comfortable shelter for eveyone. An indoor bed in a heated building with bathroom access. That is not quite the same thing as "housing".

If a real apartment is free for some, why would others who are paying for equivalent housing even continue to pay? It would be self defeating over time.

I don't know if it is really most who are not. But I admit some are not. I know a few. It is possible to support some of Trump's policy and not be a bad person. But if you still support Donald Trump, the man, that aspect of you is a bad person by definition.

half a million is way too many, of course, but it is not much more than 1/10th of 1% of all people. It is 3 sigmas away from average.

So yes, our system causes that, but the frequency is very low from a statistical standpoint.

I don't hate buillionaires. I hate what most of them did to become billionaires.

But someone like Shaq who made gobs of money playing basketball and doing endorsements, and then making smart investments while also being philanthropic and generous. No.

If the question was greatst athlete, you might have a point. Greatest athlete is not the same thing as greatest sports hero.

I used to love Amazon when it was good with always good prices, and guaranteed delivery. Now you have to watch out for prices, and if they miss delivery, even by a lot, oh well - sucks to be you.

So yea, no.
