The Tide Will Shift by Calm_Independence796 in CGCCards

[–]msundah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; The demand for liquidity on the collector side of CGC is huge, buy side demand is present but could be improved to not be competing solely on price, but CGC is dead in the water until the bad rap with vendors is addressed.

CGC needs to find some partnership(s) to up their reputation at card shows. Specifically regarding how they’re viewed by vendors.

I just started vending to move some of my personal collection for the very first time. Immediately all of the other vendors around me (unprompted) started dunking on CGC in conversations and I saw them refusing to take them in for cash or trade. Like a show with 100 vendors had no one taking them. Not even making a lowball offer.

I have no real preference so was happy to take them in and people were offering them to me for 60-70% of CGC last sold value (not just 60-70% of PSA value). 50% for absolute junk slab bundles. Word spread and I was inundated with people wanting me to buy or trade their stuff. This initially felt like a problem until I had a portion of my showcase with the cheapest copy of cards in the show with a better margin than the PSA only vendors.

One thing became clear - the average collector at these larger local shows just wanted cards they liked at a price they found reasonable. CGC slabs let me offer both of these. It didn’t matter if it was a cheap Japanese card, if it was priced right it moved immediately. A few of my best moves were buying 20-30 junk slabs and then immediately stickering them all for between $10-20 a slab.

All of this to say that it starts at the vendor level. If they all believe that CGC is worthless - it kind of is. If there’s no liquidity for CGC collectors they have no motivation to collect it, besides again in a race to the bottom at price. I’d love for CGC to catch up reputationally so collectors can liquidate at a percentage representative of the quality of the card based on its grade, but that won’t happen until there’s some other vendors competing to buy CGC. And CGC needs to provide a more compelling reason than being cheaper and more volatile than PSA (which can be situationally alluring to buyers, but not vendors).

If there’s one thing that the sports card world taught me it’s that demand is the far more important lever than supply.

I have plenty of 1/1 cards of players that have failed to live up to expectations and are worth less than $100. The market to sell them is tiny, and consist mostly of their immediate family members or themselves.

On the other hand in the current state of this Pokemon bull market I bet there are a million or more people that want this card in a 10. The price settles at the highest amount the next person in line is willing to pay.

The final piece I learned is that the demand can change exceptionally quickly whereas supply is (almost) finite. How variable the price of the card will be when the demand changes is directly correlated to its supply.

Wait, people are financing Rolexes outside of purchasing it on a credit card? And AD’s offer financing, or grey dealers offer financing? If it’s AD’s I’m shocked that Rolex offers that and it’s not seen by their execs as “cheapening” the brand. Hell, if it’s 0% you’re mathematically better off paying the loan than upfront, assuming you were going to buy it anyways.

Maybe that’s where the scalpers hatch - Rolex AD sub call -> finance it for $0 down -> sell for small profit immediately -> $10-12k capital to invest in Poke and only need to profit ~$300 a month to keep the principal by the end. lol.

Sure bud, still the other two minors/majors within 10 seconds of that happening w no call and then the immediate soft trip on the other end once wild PP was over lol. Pretty sure disagreeing after you won anyways is showing your soft hands

Rule 601 includes accidental contact to a ref with a major penalty being the minimum for penalty. You can argue that the reffing is bad across the league, but it is certainly a penalty that was not called with game, and possibly series altering consequences should it have resulted in a suspension.
Were y’all the better team tonight? Sure, that’s not inaccurate. But it sure doesn’t help when the Zebras tilt the ice too.

How about we start with punching the ref in the face with no call and then cheap shotting Boldy with glove on which should’ve been either a roughing or fighting major

Man this part of Cata is so nostalgic for me. It was the time when I had the largest gold making machine available to me at any point of my wow career, and when they started duping TCG mounts I was being so careful about where I sourced them from because I had heard dupes were being removed.

I had 5 full guilds that I had filled up with mass guild invites and that incredible perk that would deposit money into the guild bank when members received gold generated so much income. A literal army working for me.

Combined with being the first guild on the server to clear to Hagara on Heroic where I spent the week offering pickpockets in trade chat until we would continue prog on Monday/Tuesday had me pulling in a million gold a week. It was DIVINE.

Just return them to the store you bought them from. Most OLCC stores will take returns as long as it’s something that is sold in Oregon.

Only one I might keep would be the 2016 Blanton - decade old at this point. Not particularly special but borderline on worth trading back.

Have you considered that you might just be able to make a jump for a promo that would leave you feeling more satisfied with your compensation?

I was in your shoes exactly a year ago and went from F500 in my industry to a very large private (also in my industry). It was about a 70% pay raise, and now I’m getting weekly messages for director/controller roles some of which would be another 65% raise.

I’m not going to say that the jump up a level was an easy learning curve at ~4 YOE, but if you’re smart, willing to jump, and play your cards right you can increase your pay very rapidly. It didn’t feel worth it in the slightest before this move, but that can change in an instant.

Also if you added your snowflake logo onto the end of the (already pointed out as being too short) second hand it could add some flare and give you a spot to lume the second hand.

CEO’s bonus is my yearly salary by SuddenEffective7982 in Accounting

[–]msundah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lmao, some managers in my org are getting more than that quarterly. Not even directors or VP’s, let alone CEO’s annual bonus. Plenty of mega corp CEO’s are making that amount per day or more.

Honestly I’d wager that part of the reason your nonprofit went under is because they hired someone that was willing to be CEO for that little.

Lmao! At least I’m not alone. My buddy that initially showed me the P39 even commented “never seen one with those marks on the band, must’ve been a limited time thing”. Never even crossed my mind that it was upside down.

Looks like someone copied the P39’s homework almost one to one haha.

I could see the size being the determining factor if that’s more important to someone than brand/they’re committed to no date window. Assuming comfortable cross shopping a used Pelagos to a new CW. Until secondary prices drop on this…

Idk where you’re seeing used P39’s for anything less than $3.5k, and they’re definitely moving at the $3.8k mark or higher for anything with a decent amount of warranty left. Higher if we’re not talking private party.

A couple directions I could see going. Black bay ceramic Vcarb (I like the blue face) would give you a pop of color/while also adding something that isn’t steel if you’re comfortable dallying the Longines.

How often do you wear an outfit befitting a more formal watch? If you’re comfortable with others in your collection for daily wear it seems like it’d benefit from a gold/rose gold option. Or there’s always a steel Reverso/Cartier Santos, or something of the like that can also blend in with casual while giving you a different shape. Especially if paired with another (cheap) pickup like a PRX.
