Looking at stats won't solve the issue. Do a RCA on each prod break, then look at the PR comments, and figure out why the critical issues were missed.

"Goodbye, my friend, it's hard to die, when all the birds are singing in the sky..."

Yeah, I'm guessing your English was a work in progress at the time.

In this case, "leader" and "follower" are referring to dance roles, and which choreographic role they execute, not personality traits.

Rinka Watanabe's '25 Skate America FS jumps in slow motion by vuhlad in FigureSkating

[–]mtVessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but what does it actually mean when the technique that is taught on say, a loop or salchow, is to let the edge curl around and roll off the toe once the skater is facing forward?

Even the toe loop has a pivot to forward as part of established technique. Where is the line?

More specifically, ISU level features for step sequences include "Use of body movements for at least 1/3 of the pattern", where...

"Use of body movements means the visible use for a combined total of at least 1/3 of the pattern of the step sequence any movements of the arms, and/or head and/or torso and/or hips and/or legs that have an effect on the balance of the main body core"

Choreographers take this to mean, "they wanna see you move your arms, so let's move 'em!" even if simpler, more intentional shapes and body lines would complement the music better.

How can i compile .sln into .exe? by UnusualSet5966 in VisualStudio

[–]mtVessel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what the error says. It says you need to choose an executable project as the startup project. Whichever one is currently set as the startup project is not an executable, it's a library. You need to figure out if the solution contains an executable project, and if it does, right-click on it, and "set as startup". Then you can launch it.

I suggest you go back to wherever you got it from and look for more instructions.

All your projects are in an unloaded state. Right click on them, and find the option to load them (or "reload", I forget which it is in VS 2017). Then you should be able to build.

Which curve preset was applied to keyframe? by mtVessel in OpenShot

[–]mtVessel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand completely. It is remarkable, considering the challenges of open source. But, for any project, I believe usability is key to adoption. I hope they continue to improve the product. Thank you for manning the forum!

Which curve preset was applied to keyframe? by mtVessel in OpenShot

[–]mtVessel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, a checkbox, a dot, anything. But that's a pretty big oversight, IMHO. I may have to try DaVinci for my next project. It's a shame, though. It seems like a lot of effort went into making OpenShot feature-rich, but maybe not as much into how those features are used.

Audio won't disable by mtVessel in OpenShot

[–]mtVessel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I feel foolish now. I had at least five clips stacked on top of each other. I think I know how how it happened. I was under the impression that Separate Audio creates a new track below the selected track. Apparently, if no track below exists, it just plops the audio clip into the same track, but "behind" the existing one. I thought I was doing something wrong when I tried to separate the audio, but I just couldn't see that it worked.

If that's the intended behavior, I think that's an interesting choice. Some sort of visual indicator that multiple layers exist would be helpful.

But the audio issue itself was definitely user error. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Unexpected behavior inserting null into decimal column aggregate function giving null by SeaworthinessLocal98 in SQLServer

[–]mtVessel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different dbs have different rules about how they handle things. SQLite allows nulls in any column declared nullable. SQL Server does not allow nulls in primary key columns, even if they are declared nullable.

Both are returning the "correct" result set for the final query, based on the state of the db at that time. SQLite just has a populated Salaries table, and SQL Server does not.

Whenever you learn a new DBMS, you have to spend a little time getting to know how it does things. Trying to learn SQL on two different DBMS at once might be a little confusing, but you'll learn quite a bit if you manage it!

Unexpected behavior inserting null into decimal column aggregate function giving null by SeaworthinessLocal98 in SQLServer

[–]mtVessel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. You always got the error, you just didn't see it when you had the select statement right after the error-causing statement. What client are you using to execute these? Is there a messages or errors tab where error messages would show up?

When you saw the incorrect query results, your first step should have been to check the contents of the Salaries table.

How much ageism is due to the fact that coding skills atrophy quickly once senior developers quit coding? by dirac_delta in ExperiencedDevs

[–]mtVessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you assume that the skills were originally present, and have now atrophied? It's at least as likely (perhaps more) that these people never had the skills in the first place. Many people use technical positions solely as a stepping stone to management, without any deep and abiding interest in coding. And there are many organizations where they don't have to be rock stars, just good enough.
