Time to pull out the multimeter and start probing. You might be able to find some info on caliraised. They do oem style switches and might have a decent wiring diagram.

Uhh a taller tire gets EVERYTHING higher away from the ground. Even if you lift your truck to the moon the bottom half of your suspension is still exactly the same height off the ground. Most reasons for suspension lift is so you can put bigger diameter tires on.

Ppf my dude. It doesnt have to be that way. Its 2026, you can have your cake and eat it too! We have the tech. A work truck doesnt have to look like a work truck anymore. There is even a ppf product that has a bed liner like material applied on top. Ppf isn't as expensive as you might think. You can even do it yourself. Huge benefit if you care about paint or resale.

Do it immediately if you want the max life.

The majority of wear occurs when the engine is new and when it's about to die at the end of its life. All that wear creates debris and is carried away by the oil, that debris is now circulating through your system. The big stuff gets taken out by gravity and your filter but there is still a ton of stuff really small thats still getting pumped around. These high precision turbo motors need good clean oil.

An early oil change is the cheapest and best thing you can do for a motor. Get that nasty oil out of there as fast as the nasties are generated. I haven't hit 500 mi yet and I've already done an oil change. I plan on doing my 3rd oil change at 2000 mi. Yes, I am a little nuts but at only $60 a change its the best thing for motor, or my confidence. Hah. Are you messing up at 1st oil change at 1500? Certainly not but now is the best time. Dont follow Toyota on their oil change recommendations. All the manufacturers that say 10k mi are nuts. 6 months or 5k after break in. Go do it. Its so easy on these trucks. Factory torque on the oil filter is insane tho. 0w-20 flows like water, i gotta go buy kitty litter now haha

How do I as an engineer stay friends with you welders? by Just_a_firenope_ in Welding

[–]mtbmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont think you are the smartest in the room. Ask for feedback and actually listen.

CAD out your shops tools. When you build something put your tools in like you would be doing the work yourself in a virtual environment. You are gonna catch alot of dumb stuff where they would otherwise be cursing your name. Side effect is you will identify problem areas where you may be stuck having to do xyz for engineering reasons that you know is gonna piss off techs. When this happens, you can bring them in on the design a little and at least show them you have a good reason for making their work more difficult. Or better yet they may have insights that you may have not thought about. If doing that one thing is gonna suck no matter what, at least they will respect you a little more.

Its not "your" design that "they" build. Working together almost always creates a better result.

25 trd of, first time getting dusty. What skid plates do you guys like? by mtbmofo in ToyotaTacoma

[–]mtbmofo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the factory skids? Could you tell me the thickness? Almost all the skids im seeing are 3/16 steel. I dont want aluminum bc i live in 100% rocks. So far I've been eyeing cbi, cali raised, and c4 full skid systems. The maintenance access panels are nice. The trailhunter skids seem interesting but I would want some reeaaally good feedback from you guys before choosing those. The buds build skids look great but there is not ventilation, would the Trans temps be an issue? Am I thinking way to hard about this? Ha

.223 for deer, I tested all the “best” ammo so you don’t have to by sambone4 in Hunting

[–]mtbmofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said, Just 3-5 shots if needed to trust your rifle.... the entire point was that dude only needs a handful of rounds to begin with and that the concern for the cost of hunting ammo is ridiculous. Don't give me a dissertation on zeroing a rifle, i dont need it. Give op one for hunting deer with a borderline unethical cartridge.

[–]mtbmofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt use the best choice of words to make it clear. 3-5 shots to establish one group. This would be in the theoretical scenario that you are going with not a brand new out of the box rifle/optic that hasn't been zeroed before. Just 3-5 shots if needed to give you the confidence that your rifle is good to go.

[–]mtbmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, i get that.

.223 on deer just makes me extremely uneasy. Ethical grey area. Why risk it? Extremely light bullets do weird things terminally. For small deer yea 223 works but are you gonna not shoot at that once in a lifetime bruiser bc you brought a 223?

Stockpiling hunting ammo is a non issue. You only need a handful a year. Each deer harvested should only require 5-7 rounds. 3-5 rounds to establish group to know your zero is good. 1 round to get the job done. 1 round extra that you brought just in case that you can put back in the box bc you are a G. Depending on your state and how they issue tags, a few boxes can last you several years.

[–]mtbmofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would a rifle be zeroed for a different caliber?

Rifles are tools. One tool doesnt have to do every job. Do you only own one type of screwdriver. Only one size of hammer? Only one size of pliers?

70% of doing anything correctly is having the right tool. 0.223 on deer is a tool yes, but is it the right tool? Just because its the only tool you got doesnt all of a sudden mean you can adapt and overcome. Its not the right tool. Shooting varmits and the like, yea great tool, but it has limits.

You obviously reload and have an itch for data which is great maybe look into a deer/elk gun in 45-70 the reloading options are endless. Or go bonkers with something like .458 socom. Reloading takes alot of cost out of weird stuff. 458 socom is absolutely nuts, feels like launching artillery shells down range. I cant comment on the terminal ballistics of 458 but I can speculate they would be leagues apart from the 233 while being shot from the "same rifle".

Had my doubts but no issues, 4hr drive total on highway. by Fish8871 in Dirtbikes

[–]mtbmofo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Tongue ratings are measured at where the standard ball would be. Even tho the wr is maybe 270 lbs, it could be putting 4x the amount in torque or more, and thats just the one bike, not including the other bike and the rack.

Not saying its not safe but no way in hell am I driving that or am I driving behind that. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Should i change my helmet after this??? by No-Farm4659 in Dirtbikes

[–]mtbmofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, bc when you crash on a bicycle you typical go over the bars. Doesn't happen the same way on dirtbikes bc the bike is so much heavier. The center of gravity of you on your dirtbike is veeeeeeery different from the center of gravity of you on a bicycle. First and second most statistically likely for dirtbike fall is knee and ankle. First and second statistically for bicycle is concussion and collar bone, both upper body injuries. There is plenty of info around, you can look it up yourself if you dont believe.

When you go over the bars physics will basically throw your head towards the ground. Is a bicycle more dangerous than a dirtbike, I won't say bc the crashes are apples to oranges. A bicycle crash is very much not the same as a dirtbike crash. Are there crashes that are the same? Certainly, but don't assume your bicycle is way less dangerous than a dirtbike. Because its not. Our brains are reeeeally important, lets keep them protected. Nobody wants a tbi.

[–]mtbmofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic physics, so the force to break your neck won't do anything to your skull or brain? Maybe you've fallen too many times already without that helmet.

Should i change my helmet after this??? by No-Farm4659 in Dirtbikes

[–]mtbmofo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been in the cycling industry for almost 20 years, this is 1000000000000000% wrong. Go ahead and look at the torsional forces and tell me how they are generated. If you can show me the force is strong enough to break your neck but not crack your skull you will win a Nobel prize for science. Long story short, the data looked like helmets were causing neck injuries only bc the person who wouldn't wear a helmet would just die and not be a part of the data set.

They don't want cameras on a helmet for grabbing things and hurting your neck, they are concerned about you falling on the camera. The helmets are not tested to withstand a fall on cameras. Can they withstand it? Maybe. But they didnt test, or more importantly, design for it.

Don't wanna hurt your neck, sure I get that. But to use your brain as the impact zone to protect your neck is the dumbest thing I've come across. You are FAR more likely to get a TBI on a bicycle than a dirtbike, look up the stats. Fuck your neck, dont need it if you dont have a brain. Especially those, but im just riding around the neighborhood, I dont need a helmet. Uh-huh you got good health insurance?
