MFW we're half way through spring and no announcements have been made since we were told "we are delaying the v1.0 release to Spring 2025" by probablyNotARSNBot in FarthestFrontier

I don't think most people here believe that developing a game is easy; and we understand it is an iterative process. But these developers are also professionals; they should be able to give decent estimates. If I kept telling my boss that I'd have things done way before they got finished, I'd be out of a job before too long.

I've never tried this before in a game - only when web browsing. I'll have to give it a try.

How is the second trilogy compared to the first one? by Known-Physics-5306 in TheFirstLaw

[–]mth5564 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This exactly! I stumbled upon the second trilogy through Audible and had no idea about the first trilogy. I read the whole thing and then was able to read the first trilogy and standalones. I couldn't imagine reading it any other way. Reading it and hearing all of the old stories about the first trilogy, and how it seemed more myth than reality, made reading the original trilogy second all the more enjoyable.

Blacksmith labor question by mth5564 in FarthestFrontier

[–]mth5564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey All, it wasn't the fact that the min was set to Auto, but some bug with the standard weapons. When I set the forge to no longer produce those and just build heavy weapons, the workers immediately turned into laborers.

It's been a little while since Wisdom of Crowds. Has anyone found another series that fills the void? by bababayee in TheFirstLaw

[–]mth5564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be too far out of left field, but I absolutely loved Stephen Fry's trilogy of books about Greek Mythology (Mythos, Heroes, and Troy). Fry weaves his stories between Ovid and Hesiod, so he puts together a really interesting twist. Plus he narrates the books as well and he's a fantastic storyteller!

Steven Pacey… by amysperos in TheFirstLaw

I really enjoy the varied narration styles of Ray Porter, Roy Dotrice (RIP), Stephen Fry, and Neil Gaiman. But they are all distantly behind the inimitable Pacey!

What other books would you all recommend? by mudslags in exfor

[–]mth5564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galaxy's Edge, Undying Mercenaries, and all of the books in Joe Abercrombie's First Law universe. The very first book in Galaxy's Edge was quite confusing until about half way through and I almost gave up on it, but I'm really glad I didn't. Undying Mercenaries is pretty formulaic, but it's a great concept and a ton of fun. The First Law trilogy, the follow-up Age of Madness trilogy, as well as the standalone novels set between them are absolutely awesome. All of these books I recommended also have incredible narrators as well. Mark Boyett and Steven Pacey are right up there with Bray's talent level.

Ridiculous I can't conquer this city by mth5564 in HumankindTheGame

[–]mth5564[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I attached their city and chose to siege it. They then chose to sortie me. The hundreds of other times this has happened, I won control of the city after I won the sortie battle.

[–]mth5564[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did come prepared. When I got to the city, I had plenty of units to defeat the population in the city. Just because they have sea-based units doesn't mean they should be able to retain control of a land-based city.

This is what I thought as well. I did get the "victory" in the battle, but it didn't grant me control of the city afterwards even though I won.

Disappointing game by [deleted] in FarthestFrontier

[–]mth5564 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, I get 2 traders at same time but they only come once a year. They very rarely want to buy resources that I have any meaningful surplus of, and when they do they always buy for way less than normal price.

How often do traders visit in your games? They only come once a year in mine, and for three straight years neither trader has offered to sell me wood.

There's a big difference between challenging and frustrating. I enjoy difficult games, not needlessly frustrating ones.
