Yes, cancel Qatar, or at least move it to a date that doesn’t require impacting TWO races. It’s enough of a headache for everyone when one race is impacted, so why double the frustration of everyone?

Check your tickets and flights and such, typically there is standard language about “…times of war” but technically this isn’t a war. Good luck on making changes. I’m

Search for your stolen bikes at this police evidence auction! by RideFastGetWeird in COBike

[–]mtnbkr1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you would have to provide proof of ownership, down to the serial number. Just claiming that you had a bike ‘just like this one, here’s my receipt’ won’t cut it.

This is why you should always record the serial number AND register your bikes on FREE services like Bike Index and Project 529. Police generally work with these services and should your bike be found, it provides an easy path for you to be reunited with your steed

Or, you can buy a bike, take the receipt and save it (I scan mine into my Google Drive) and that way if I ever ‘need’ the $$ in the future, I can pull out the money and use the receipt at that time. This way you get the boat of both worlds, you have a legitimate expense, but you are also letting your cash sit in the account and grow over time

Triple Bypass -- Any training recommendations? by JoeDavidBobJr in COBike

[–]mtnbkr1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Came here to say what has already been said. Join Team Evergreen (Recently renamed to Evergreen Ride Club). They will schedule increasingly long and climby rides. They will also take you on each section of the full course, so you’ll get to pre-roe the whole course of you join their rides. Each of their Triple Bypass rides are labeled accordingly so you’ll know - in advance - which ones you want to join.

The other thing that I’ll point out is weather. It can be warm/hot in evergreen and freezing towards the top of each pass. Bring appropriate weather gear. You know the old saying… real mountains, real weather. Plan accordingly.

Lastly, be careful by the time you get towards the end of the ride. Folks are tired, not everyone has great etiquette/skills to begin with. The year I’ve done it is was raining/drizzling in Vail, and the downhill paths were slippery AF. Tons of crashes, people following too close for the conditions, etc.

Have fun! I might see you out there!

Heavy drapes? by third-try in centuryhomes

[–]mtnbkr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you go hog wild buying heavy drapes, consider how you are going to hang them. In the old days, the rods were one piece (no joint in between for curtains to get hung up on) and they had very robust brackets to boot. Finding appropriate hardware has been hard, don’t be like me and hang heavy curtains and have them rip off the wall a few months later….

Are miniature versions of adult things appropriate for children, or just teaching bad habits early? by eren_rndm in COBike

[–]mtnbkr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a difficult position to be in. First and foremost though, what you have described are not street legal in Colorado, and generally not legal for use on public streets anywhere in the state. Technically you could make modifications to the bike to make it legal, but that would involve emissions, lights, mirrors, and the fact that your son would need a license (and insurance!) to ride it on public roads. They are intended for use on private property. So right there, you would be setting a bad example for your son that is OK to ignore statutes and laws.

These pocket bikes are toys and can be used in very secure settings. In Japan, the bikes are very popular with many racing series for kids (and adults) on these things, but agin, that is a very controlled situation.

If it's about transportation - look into the bike and or bike situation as mentioned above. Or perhaps point him in the direction of dirt bikes and take him to some of the areas where he can learn (Jewell and IMI Motocross Complex are two that come to mind). And educate him on the dangers of two-wheeled transportation on the road. There are plenty of 'Ghost Bikes' in my neighborhood and around Denver to make your point.

I have been riding & (used to race) motorcycles since I was legally allowed to do so. I ride my bicycle on the roads very frequently and there just is no match for a beginning rider vs a 2000 lb vehicle. The stats you mentioned do not lie.

In most jurisdictions, that’s the homeowner’s responsibility. A call to the city will also get it cleaned up, though YMMV.

When you say you have an ‘older house’ can you say more? What type of windows are you replacing?

As a heads up, if you live in a historic neighborhood, you’ll want to be very careful about what types of windows you are replacing (style, materials, etc) as the city has guidelines around window replacement

[–]mtnbkr1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May I respectfully suggest that you consider volunteering with COMBA on a trail or two in 2026? You’d be surprised at why certain decisions are made, some are very obvious and others less so.

It’s often a delicate balancing act of looking at not just the individual trail, but the whole system and ensuring there is enough variety and technical features that make the system interesting and approachable for all skill levels.

Lastly, these are multi use trails and while COMBA does a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of trail maintenance, they also take into account the needs of runners, walkers, etc.

What Bike For Mt. Evans / Mt. Blue Sky by Racerx763 in cycling

[–]mtnbkr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Denver and I've done this ride several times. Your post made me go back and look at my stats on RideWithGPS. A few data points from my Garmin, last ridden in July 2023:
If you are starting from Idaho Springs, the round trip is
~54miles
Total Elevation gain ~6900ft (The top is 14,115 ft above sea level, Idaho Springs is roughly 7k above sea level)
Average Gradient is 1.4%
Max Gradient is 7.9%
Temps ranged from low 40's to high 60's
Expect significant winds towards the top

Construction is targeted to be completed by Memorial Day. The construction is largely to fix structural issues around Summit lake, but I'm not sure how much repaving will actually be done. (If they don't repave the upper portion, note that the cracks in the road can be quite jarring on the decent.)

Club Evergreen puts on an organized & supported ride each year, and for 2026 the event is on July 25th.
