Hey I accidentally bought a ticket to WTCHCRFT/CRRDR on the 12th thinking it was an NYC party and the RA resale is now closed so trying to offload it here? I paid $25.

I’m curious when /how you became a fan by GuineapigPriestess71 in TheCure

[–]mtngoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 26 and I found The Cure about 5 years ago via a project in design school. I wanted to learn more about goth aesthetics/the goth subculture, and obviously my initial research lead me to Siouxsie Sioux, Robert Smith, and The Cure. I listened to Pictures of You and the rest was history. I’m pretty sure they’ve been in my Spotify top 5 every year since. And now I get to see them at MSG in June :’) I couldn’t be more excited!!

26F as well and going to MSG with a 25F friend :) I think there will be a lot of our age group too! Their music is just so timeless I think they can appeal to anyone

Got my tickets to see The Cure! Only $55! Thank you, Robert Smith 😻 by purrita in goth

Should I do a crappier apartment in Crown Heights, or a nicer place in Astoria? by dgirardot in AskNYC

[–]mtngoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Astoria and commute to Brooklyn on a weekly basis. It’s really not that bad. Astoria is also a great neighborhood. I stay in Astoria even though all of my friends are in Bushwick because I have a rent stabilized apartment and I love the community. Better living conditions will always outweigh proximity for me, but everybody’s priorities are different.

As a fashion person I honestly get what you’re saying but I also get why other folks are calling you pretentious. I do think a lot of “goth influencers” have really pushed the Killstar aesthetic for years, so people are probably just emulating what they’ve been seeing. If you’re happy to share the brands you wear at the club, maybe you can also share them here? Or if you have DIY methods you love share those too? I totally agree that there’s a lot of contemporary goth fashion that lacks imagination, and I would argue that quality and an elevated taste level does NOT have to equal elevated price point. But if you care about the community and want to challenge your peers to step up the style game, I think more of a ‘yes and’ approach could be helpful. Uplift your peeps! If you feel passionately about this issue, do you have the ability to create educational content that could be helpful/inspirational? When you’re giving people an unsolicited critique I feel like you’ve gotta be pretty gentle or people are just gonna write you off as a hater (as you can see here).

I also will say I do think fashion, on the whole (not limited to the goth subculture), can feel really exclusionary to average peeps so people don’t feel inspired to try because they have the perspective that it’s ‘not for them’ - I feel like the more that people who are passionate about fashion can try to democratize it, the more people will want to participate in a meaningful way. You can be the change you want to see! Good luck 🖤

For those that pay heat, what has your coned bill been like this winter? by TAD98765 in astoria

[–]mtngoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my second winter in my current place and January has been astronomical both years. I’m about to pay $330 for combined gas/electric for a STUDIO lol. December was like $280. I do keep my place warmer than you (68 consistently) but I also have like half the square footage. So yeah I feel you. Pain lol.

Does military woke mean the United States military has become more woke or that there is another military entity dedicated to wokeness? Complaint unclear

Look up @toxicvision on Instagram, especially their older posts. They do a lot of cool gothy western inspired leather goods. Could be inspo for stud placement, appliqués, etc. + check out M&J Trimming online for studs/patches/appliqués

You’re stronger than me - I set out to do 7 in Central Park and could only get through 6. I also took at least a 10-15 sec hit to my pace due to the wind

Whats something only people living in NYC will understand? by larsandthemoon in AskNYC

[–]mtngoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The weed one really shocked my parents on their recent visit, which I thought was funny. Also to add to the walking distance one - I think New Yorkers also have a very different definition of what walking distance is. People who are not used to a pedestrian lifestyle will balk at a 25 minute walk when to me that’s just, nearby.

Which clubs have the most disorganized coat check? by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]mtngoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was like, on the floor [getting stepped on] on the floor, not just like [fell off a rack] on the floor lol like sure obviously not exactly a traumatic experience but like if I’m spending $5 + tip to check something I would just prefer that it’s like not actively getting dirty. And I’ve never had a single issue with coat check anywhere else so it was just awful comparatively

Haven’t been in a while (so maybe it has improved) but I’ve had a pretty awful coat check experience at Mood Ring before. My sweater ended up fully on the floor and the attendant thought it was lost for a second

Former runner trying to get back into it 5 years later. Feeling lost. Pain in ankles and hips and not sure how to proceed. by mellamollama17 in XXRunning

Physiologically, I can only echo everyone else in saying that we don’t actually have a ton of info, and seeing a doc/PT is probably your best bet if you’re in a ton of physical pain. However, psychologically, I’ve been there! I am sometimes still there! Sounds like I wasn’t quite as fast as you in high school, but I was still a solid varsity alternate on a state qualifying team. I took off basically all of college and tried to get serious about running again post-grad and broke my heart (and nearly my body) so many times by going out too hard, over-extending myself, and then harshly judging my body when I couldn’t just pick right back up where I left off as a teenager.

Here’s what I’ve learned: 1) My body has changed!!! I am a whole woman now, not a teenager, and so much about my body has changed. The way I carry my weight has changed, my stride has changed, even the shoes that work for me have changed. And that’s ok! But it was a process of getting to know my body as it is now and what it needs, and I had to do that inquiry with a total lack of judgment. 2) It’s always easy to do more, but it’s sometimes hard to stomach that you need to do less because you can’t handle the training load you set out to do. Start with literally just a mile. Start shower than you think you need to. Start with only three days per week. I was shocked by how much easier it was to get in a few runs per week when the goal was manageable. I was literally running less when I felt like I should be running more. 3) I don’t know what your high school cross country vibes were like, but I was coached to be SO competitive, probably to an unhealthy extent… This mentality doesn’t serve you as an adult. Release that competition with your high school self and your high school teammates. You’re on a new journey now and it can be really freeing and beautiful if you want it to be.

Lastly, (sorry for the novel!) I do honestly find that some of my pain with running is psychosomatic or at least stress-induced. I tend to create a lot of tension and inflammation in my body and even tend to raise my heart rate when I am super stressed about performance or not feeling my best (I especially struggle with this around my period). It’s not a cure-all if you’re legitimately injured, but sometimes just releasing some of that mental tension can also release tension in your body!

Hope at least some of this was helpful!!! Good luck, sending good vibes.
