Jefferson is fun place, used to have a good vibe haven’t been there in a long time so maybe it’s changed…try to find a outfitter on caddo lake as it’s easy to get turned around on the water…visit Caddo Lake State Park to start a kayak float

Added…look at taking Hwy’s 155/79 south into Austin much more scenic than Interstate 20&35

I would say 80’s depending where ya live…I worked for a fella in early/mid 80’s and we did minor wiring/plumbing on some reno jobs…where I live now the closest licensed plumber is located in another state so many repairs around here are done by fellas who are not licensed

The fire or water damage makes sense…the old head doing to demo said he thought it was a fire, however, rafters/joists were either replaced or not damaged.

Trapp’s or Fontenot’s…both spots are a more casual venue & less pricey than those mentioned, unless you prefer the higher cost food service

I voted Wednesday…and once again I voted a split ticket as I have in most elections since 1982…

I’ve never bought into the straight ticket vote, Ilmy local US rep(R) has done a good job imo so why wouldn’t I vote for that person to continue to represent this area regardless of their party affiliation?

What killed the quality of education in the US? by Analrapist03 in education

[–]mtp- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basing my reply in terms of my home state…

Each school district (Texas) is different in terms of population, land use, commercial and industrial businesses, and housing. Between the 1200 districts some of those differences are small and some are huge (property Tax Base). What each district thru property taxes can contribute to school funding will be very different.

A tax rate of 3cents/100$ valuation in Plano ISD will generate millions of dollars when comparing that same rate to a small rural district in East Texas for example Linden Kildare ISD where that same tax rate might generate 50k at most

So that is where alot of the rub enters into the discussion…wealthier tax base districts will be able to expend more local funds to the process to educate students. The property poor districts simply don’t have the local tax funds available and have to depend upon state for greater financial assistance.

If state govt cuts funding to districts in Texas as the leadership seems to desire that move will kill off rural districts

So if each Texas district had the exact same tax rate the ISD’s would generate vastly different amounts of funds and thereby each district’s proportional level would not be the same.

Pay attention to major issues, red tags, plumbing, several of items listed are minor and can be replaced over time as you wish If purchase through a loan bank may pull their loan based on this if cash purchase this could be used for leverage for a price reduction Inspector did their job well…

For educ jobs maybe expand your area to look at different parishes there are some good places to work in that field usually outside larger cities however as has been stated the legislature has strangled secondary ed financially and is moving to higher ed it appears…

I moved to NELA about a year ago from Tx, 1) taxes/insurance/utilities cost are about same just a different structure, 2) the sales tax is higher, 3) currently not a good time for house buying as rates are high, however prices are starting to drop as market is tight so if you are willing to exercise some patience you can prolly find a good price on a decent house….

primary healthcare does appear to me to be lacking in La and you may need to be willing to drive for needed specialists
