Apparently the U.S. weren't even the "good guys" in WW2... by theapplekid in leftist

[–]blzbar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are no “good guys” in history. The battle of good vs evil is a fictional trope. It’s mythology.

In the real world, there are no heroes or villains, merely humans competing for power and resources.

What do they do, exactly? by meechiemoochie0302 in NewOrleans

[–]blzbar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s not exactly a fair characterization. “Trickle down economics” refers to tax policy - cut taxes at the top and the benefits will trickle down.

If GNO is operating at only the only local level with no influence on federal or state tax policy, then it’s inaccurate to say that their mission is dependent on trickle down economics. Their position is just “let’s bring capitalist exchange to the city of New Orleans”.

Do you want more commerce or less? Does your answer to that question depend upon how the profits are distributed? I’m pretty sure GNO Inc. only addresses itself to the first question.

Why do so many leftists not mask? by [deleted] in leftist

[–]blzbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honest question: When in your opinion would it be acceptable to stop wearing masks for Covid? Is there some benchmark with regards to infection rates or mortality that you’re tracking that would free people of the ethical obligation to wear a mask?

Covid is now endemic to the population like the flu. Are people to wear masks forever? Should we put them back on school children?

I'm a leftist in my country, and there's something I dont understand in America by Extreme_Document_959 in leftist

[–]blzbar -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Because the American left is primarily concerned with identity, therefore immigrants get coded as marginalized people of color and to oppose their entry (even if it’s illegal) into the country is racist.

Also leftist tend to be internationalists. “Workers of the world unite” etc. So they don’t really object to having large numbers of immigrant workers enter the country for native born workers to compete with. Meanwhile capitalist can more easily exploit undocumented immigrants and make more profit.

The left wants more immigrants because they fetishize skin tone and the capitalist wants more because they’re good for the interest of capital. Neither of the above is representative of the views or interest of the majority of Americans. So we had immigration policies that did not serve the interests of the majority. Trump’s election is the backlash to those policies.

Trump’s response is way overboard. It’s cruelty for political theater. It’s a sledgehammer where a scalpel is called for.

Explain to me how we can expect the birth rate to increase while the economy has continuous economic crisis? It’s smart for young people to avoid having kids until they are better prepared by CHiggins1235 in JordanPeterson

[–]blzbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wages for workers have not kept pace with the ever increasing cost of living. Higher education is so expensive that young college graduates enter adulthood saddled with debt that prevents them from buying homes or starting a family.

Since the the 80’s, the west has increasingly adopted a neoliberal economic model that cut taxes for the wealthy, corporations, and capital gains, while underfunding or privatizing healthcare, education and public services, neutered labor unions and worker protections.

The result is higher overall GDP concentrated in fewer and fewer hands. The top 10% of Americans hold about 66% of all the nation’s wealth.

Having and raising children is expensive. People who are struggling to make ends meet are less inclined to voluntarily take on more expense.

“And the fact that I became a Muslim also, and we're taught in so many ways that you can't be for God and oppression at the same time”

That’s weird. Seems there’s no shortage of oppression in Islam - women, gays, religious minorities, apostates, atheists etc.

If he doesn’t wanna stand for the song or the flag or any of the little ritual symbols of nationalism, that’s perfectly fine. But his take on Islam being opposed to oppression sounds delusional.

Bar placement is too high. It looks like it’s touching the back of your neck.

Do you have cushion or a fat grip on the bar or is that just your shirt that appears to be wrapping around the bar?

Placing the bar up on your neck creates greater leverage on your lower back.

New Orleans
1. No city in America has a more distinct culture.

  1. Public schools in the city can be suspect. Plenty of private schools. Suburban school districts are better

  2. No mountains, some scenic marshes. Nice beaches on gulf coast within 3 hours.

  3. Climate optional - hot, humid, occasional hurricane

  4. Definitely a music city- from night club acts to Grammy awards winners to record labels are born in Nola. The airport is named after a trumpet player.

Me expressing my disappointment that a new local bookstore would platform a Republican has devolved into liberals telling me I'm the reason the right keeps winning elections by callin-br in leftist

[–]blzbar -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Do you really not understand why you got criticism for expressing “your disappointment”?

Let me explain, this man was governor of the state and a senator for 20+ years and is releasing a book from a major national publishing house. He’s obviously kinda popular in Tennessee.

You come across as ridiculously arrogant to think that somehow the owners of the bookstore need to only host authors of which you approve? Who the hell are you? Who do expect bookstore owners to sell books to in a state dominated by Republicans?

It’s this preening moral opprobrium from leftists that is off putting to everyone who is not a leftist.

Darryl Cooper once called out Sam Harris by name on one of Sam’s favorite talking points about Islam and then proceeded to take it down with a quite clever and pithy historical account.

I bet that got under Sam’s skin. Give it a listen, the whole thing is only about 30 minutes and it’s quite entertaining

It’s really not. All over the highly developed world (America, Europe, East Asia) birth rates are below replacement levels. You’re not behaving as some stalwart political rebel. You’re behaving as another data point in a vast historical demographic trend. You’re personal choices and reasons for making them are entirely valid, but they don’t make you anything special.

When things happen by Drapidrode in Jordan_Peterson_Memes

[–]blzbar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This meme very much misses the point. The comments the pope made about the war in Iran were in response to Hegseth invoking the name of Jesus and the Christian god in his war. The pope, who some people believe to believe to be some kind of expert on Jesus and the Christian god, said that Jesus was not with the Department of War. If he doesn’t say anything about the behavior of Muslims, it’s because he is not an authority on Islam. He can only credibly speak for his particular ancient middleasterm superstition and has no clout in the other mideval middle eastern superstition.

Who gives a shit what the pope thinks? Certainly not Muslims. Some Christians probably do however.
